I like how Smith & Rodman gelled, and not just on the goals. Huerta also infused a lot of life with her movement up the line. I’d rather have Swanson than Williams, but obviously that’s not happening, and Lynn’s not too bad.

@@TomF18 I’d rather have Swanson over Thompson or pinoe. Lynn deserves her spot on this roster. I also think Alex was a little invisible in that first half. I wouldn’t mind Lynn Soph and Trin starting up front either.

@@TomF18 Smith could have made one more pass and Rodman would have had a hat trick. Smith wasn't gonna do that. She wants to score too. Vlatko realizes that Morgan is a placeholder at best these days. Hatch should have been selected, but there is legacy and politics. I figure he was giving Sullivan, Sonnet, Mewis the chance to play. His smartest lineup would be to have Fox and Huerta in at outside backs. Cook and Girma in at center. Dunn or Sanchez with Lavelle and Horan in the Mid. Then up top you would have Rodman, Williams and Smith. Dunn was awesome out there today. Thompson has to settle her game better. She has speed, but it is becoming wasted speed.

@@catman518 I think Smith made the right choice going for goal on the 2nd breakaway. Rodman wasn’t nearly as open as she was on the 1st goal. In Morgan’s defense, she wasn’t passed the ball much at all. She still draws a lot of defenders. It’s just too bad Swanson is injured; she would’ve been even better. I disagree about Cook; she should’ve never made the roster. She’s slow to turn & can’t keep focus for 90 min. There are at least 4 or 5 NWSL defenders who would’ve been better. I’m also doubtful of Hatch. She’s way too inconsistent. I agree about Dunn and Thompson. Crystal’s always the most complete player on the field.

I like her coming on later like Alex Morgan frequently did in her first WC. Lots of energy and very hungry for the goals. We do need either her or Smith to start though so the front has some speed. Morgan can still put it on but not for the entire match and not through a full WC tournament. Williams has the crafty experience too. I hope we don't miss Swanson too much.

@@kirstieb8025 Don't get me wrong, I think Demelo is talented but this big campaign push to make her a star is annoying. Vlatko and his staff makes most of the talented young players timid and unsure about their role. So, I don't have high hopes on Vlatko and his staff to use the right system for these players. The entire offense ran thru Horan who drove the attack on the left side of pitch which cause the offense to be sluggish. Andi only wants to play defense but we need a connector in the middle to distribute to the attacking midfield so Sanchez or Demelo can work their magic. Unfortunately, it took them 80 minutes to figure it out. That's poor coaching. Knowing Andi is limited hurts our attacking midfielder. Powell or Coffey would have been a better choice.

A few comments: 1. The female commentator (Julie Foudy? - if it was she, she unfailingly gives great insights) - makes another great point - teams watching the USWNT are using a much narrower / tighter defensive line, and it does seem to work until the US teases it apart. I'm sure Coach V and front and midfield lines are adapting. 2. The US second half fitness factor kicked in again (no pun intended), but against some of the more experienced European teams, I would not count on that making as much of an impact as it did here. 3. The officiating was not as tight as it should have been, but at least it was poor. There should have been a LOT more yellow cards. 4. I watched this game with the assumption that the USWNT was not going to go full-throttle on the eve of the World Cup. No sense incurring needless last-minute injuries, right? This will be the most challenging World Cup the USWNT has ever faced, for a whole host of reasons (missing key players due to injuries ( Mal, Becky, Catarina), and the rest of the world catching up), but I still fervently believe in this team. Tear 'em up, Ladies!!!

Take aways * Cook almost giving it away AGAIN in the 15th minute. Worrisome - its a pattern that keeps repeating. * Thompson got quality minutes and is deserving of play time at the WC. Her speed will keep teams off balance. * USWNT got 11 corner kicks and got nothing out of them. * Sullivan continues to underperform. Hope Ertz is ready. * Dunn was fantastic. Watching the USA & WALES played, that is an ugly win, remember Wales is not a good soccer team, instead, the US team should score 5=0, Observation of the game, I was Concerned about the lack of both Conner-attaching offenses; the left corner Alyssa Thompson and Sophia Smith lack connected crossing the ball, which doesn't provide many trikes to score for the USA team. They hold and play technical personal soccer balls until time runs out. Compared with England, Netherlands, Or French women's teams, the USA team hasn't changed to reach the FINAL. I don't know whether Vlatko Andonovski"s coach sees the weakness of the US Offensive yet. But if they don't fix the Rosters, the game will be over soon!
