Great video Leon. I have a question: 20 years ago I used this function constantly on my Roland E-86 (made in 1994), to play or create the underlying chord progressions (often spontaneously), and then use two hands to play solos (LH on the modulation wheel or pitch bend, RH play saxophone or whatever); or, in a live setting, while leading worship I could establish a chord progression, and then physically depart from behind the keyboard, walk out to the front of the stage, and sing and lead the people in worship WHILE the E-86 kept playing the progression - and then after a while, go back behind the keyboard and seamlessly pick up in midstream (to play reharms or go into the chorus or B-section, etc). It was wonderful! Fast-forward 25 years, and now I use a Tyros 5, and it's a great keyboard, BUT sadly it doesn't allow for either of these powerful and useful functions. My Left Hand is forever trapped having to play the chord progressions, with only spits and spurts darting over the left to adjust the mod or pitchbend wheels, and always having to zip back to play the new chord on the down-beat (which is often the very moment when mod or pitchbending is most needed in an effective solo). And another thing: with the Tyros, my body is physically trapped behind the keyboard. I can't depart from behind the Tyros to get more physically present to lead or exhort the people. Alas, how I miss the arranger loop function! (I'm much less effective as a live performer without it.) So I'm very excited to see that the Genos 2 has the arranger loop!! Way to go Yamaha! So now.... I wonder: since this appears to be primarily a software update (and not a hardware feature that requires a separate set of buttons, like on the E86) ... could this feature possibly be programmed into an updated firmware or software version for the Tyros 5? Does anyone have any idea? I don't really want to leave my Tyros 5 yet, it's still an awesome keyboard; plus, the learning curve to learn the Genos is as much a deterrent as is the price to upgrade from the Tyros. So hopefully Yamaha will see fit to program this arranger loop function into the Tyros software or firmware, and not force us who REALLY need this feature, to buy a Genos2. Would love to hear from you Leon about this.

Leon. Very helpful video. I have a PSRSX900 and I am learning how to use the Chord Looper. Please give me a link to the sheet music for Aura Lee that you used in this video. Also, any other links to information on the Chord Looper will be appreciated. Thanks

Hello Leon, I've been enjoying using SX900 Chord Looper and styles to provide accompaniment for many pop, country and folk songs. I like to play melody and sing melody etc.. I've been experimenting with Live Control to allow me to control the volume and adjust the balance of the style by using the Assign knobs when I sing. I'm having some trouble getting Live Control to do what I want it to do. It seems to have a mind of its own. Do you have experience with Live Control? The Owners and Reference manuals are not real helpful. They're short on examples and in-depth explanations. .

Hi Leon, In Aura Lee you created the three files CLD_001, CLD_002 and CLD_003. You used Registration Memory 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 to save steps required to perform Aura Lee. In performance you pressed Registration buttons as you played the song. I duplicated what you did; it worked fine. I wanted to create only one Aura Lee CLD file that included all the chords in the song. I did this, and it works fine. My problem was if I made one mistake in recording the chords, I had to start over. I have used this single-file method for a lot of songs. As the songs get more complicated, the probability of making a recording mistake gets higher. With Chord Looper open I can touch any CLD files and play them. e.g. I can play Aura Lee as follows: play intro III , touch CLD_001 play m.5-12, touch CLD_002 play 13-16, touch CLD_003 play 17-20, and finally play ending III. Here, I don’t use the Registration Memory buttons. The problem is I have to touch the CLD files at just the right time on chord looper; if I don't, things get messy. I like to have one main CLD file and several small files per song. Here's my question. Can I pick and combine short intermediate CLD files in the same chord looper bank e.g. CLD_001, CLD_002 and CLD_003 and make a new CLD file e.g. CLD_004 for the entire song? If so, how do I do it? I want to minimize the use of the Registration Memory & buttons presses. I love Chord Looper. It's great having the accompaniment running unattended so you can have so much fun playing the melody and using other keyboard performance features. Regards John P.S. I read and agree with Mike Ware-Lane's comments and your replies of several months ago.

@@YamahaMusicAu Thanks, I used your idea on Aura Lee. I put introduction III on R1, CLD_001 on R2, CLD_002 on R3, CLD_003 on R4 and ending III on R5.Then, I used the R1-R5 buttons to control the flow as i played the melody. This worked fine, I like the idea, Thanks

Hi Leon, great video thanks for uploading. I have a looper question, is it possible to automated looper to progressively follow on each sequence without the need to press the individual sequences or use registrations. eg: verse-chorus-bridge-verse etc... I know it's possible to set up various sequences for registrations to follow a designated order but what about the looper.

@@YamahaMusicAu Hi Leon Thanks for the feedback. If I must use registrations then presulmably I can set the registrations to follow a particular sequence when pressed or alternatively use a foot pedal to follow a pre determined sequence. Not quite what I wanted but it is at least a work around. It would ne nice if Yamaha could build in the option to follow a sequence for the looper in the same way that you can set up a sequence in the registrations regards Mike

Hi Leon. I want to use a SX900 Live Control knob to smoothly vary the Master Tempo of the style as it is playing. I haven’t found a satisfactory way to do this. E.g. If I assign Master Tempo to knob 1, then while the style is playing, if I move knob 1, the tempo jumps to a new value, e.g. 68. Then it can be controlled, but over a limited range . I want the tempo to increase (or decrease) smoothly from the original value. I don’t want to use the TEMPO +/- buttons for this. BTW How can I text you without being in a KZread video? Please give me a link to where I can text you. John Shaughnessy

Thanks for this.... was a bit confused when you played the melody over the chord bank 1 time at 7:07 before playing both hands independent of the looper -- was that just to show how the looper was playing, or were you attaching the melody somehow? Or showing that the looper was *not* playing yet? Anyway will get cracking on trying to use this myself.

Leon, thanks for your reply. I have a new question. How do I set up chord looper registrations to play introduction 1, 2, or 3 followed by an incomplete measure with a few pickup notes and no chords, followed by a normal chord sequence in a style. I guess this is similar to having a no-chord section in a song.

@@YamahaMusicAu Thank you. Yeah, I knew it was meant to put different sequences into the slots. I just didn't know whether each slot was limited to a certain number of bars, or a time limit. Your last sentence answered that. Good to know I can store a longer, more complex verse sequence in one of the slots (for example). Great, handy feature. Cheers.
