    What a wonderful job you are doing Leon. You are not only providing beginner level keyboard hobbyists with a convenient way to spruce up their practice pieces, you are clearing up a major confusion that exists throughout the keyboard community about what a "Saved Arrangement" really is.

    I have recently decided to relearn piano after many years, and upon researching digital pianos, I came across this channel. I am blown away to learn that early pieces presented in my method book, can become complete audience pleasing performances. Upon viewing this video, even without owning a digital arranger, I believe Leon has provided the training I would need to operate this complex appearing instrument. Oh, if only more printed manuals would be so precise and easy to understand.

Powodzenia.

    The DGX-670 is an excellent instrument. I once had one. It allows you to develop traditional piano skills, while at the same time it has enough "arranger" features to get you to feel comfortable with the basics of playing an arranger keyboard.

    That’s a great job you have done Leon in explaining how to download the files and play them on the PSR. I just got my SX900 and I’m keen to learn how to use it. You are a like I am and know the importance of having the sheet music! Well done here. I’ll try to sort it out tomorrow! Once again thank you!

    Another excellent and thorough tutorial! I was especially pleased to see how “Camptown 2” loaded automatically when you reached the end of “Camptown 1” and pressed the pedal one more time. Is there a limit to the number of 8-bank registrations the SX900 supports? (e.g. 100 8-bank registers). Also, what is the largest USB Flash drive supported by the SX900? (I can buy a 1 TB USB 3.0 flash drive for $50 so it’s a SX900 limitation, not USB price, that limits flash drive size.)

    When I first got my SX900 I put your same question to Yamaha product support and they replied in email that there is no limit to the number of "Registration Bank Files" that can be accessed in this manner. My understanding is that the instrument steps through the files in alphabetical order. So when you create multiple bank arrangements you simply name the files according to how you want them accessed. Also, if you have some number of bank files that represent one particular song, you need to put them in their own exclusive folder so that they don't get mixed up with other unrelated files on your flash drive. Yamaha product support also said that when it comes to "Registration Bank Files" not to worry about the size of the flash drive. To put it into perspective, "Camptown 1" is 116 KB and "Camptown 2" is 101 KB. Looks like I could save close to a million of them on the 15 GB flash drives that I am using. I don't actually know what the maximum USB size is that the SX900 supports. That would be a good question for Yamaha product support. But I would think that unless you are using a lot of MP3 or worse WAV audio files in your work, and perhaps creating a lot of custom accompaniment styles as well, a larger flash drive will never be necessary.

    @@leoncastonguay3997 As far as I know, the limit is 32 Gb, as the stick must be formatted in 'FAT32' mode. I have a 64 Gb stick, that I had to split in 2 partitions, with only one, of 32 Gb, formatted and usable on the PSR-SX 900. I agree with you that 16 Gb or even 8 Gb sticks in uSB 2.0 are more than enough. This instrument is fantastic. I purchased the Key-Tab classic set (registrations + music sheets) and each piece (e.g. Ravel's Bolero) is mase of more than 7 banks of 8 registrations, seamlessly sequenced using the pedal. Gorgeous.

    @@tontonproductions Thank you for letting me know about the 32 GB limit, as well as to split a larger than 32 GB flash drive into partitions. Great trick to know, especially in the future when larger sizes become more common. Oh, I envy you being able to play John Beesley's arrangement of Ravel's Bolero. Seven banks? Really! We are so luck to have Beesley's work available.

    @@tontonproductions Didn't know that. For some reason is seems that the USB size support in musical devices (e.g. SX900 or Roland FR-4x) is often far less than current technology limits. The Roland is an older model so I can understand the limit but one would think the SX900 could handle up to at least 1 TB. It's not that old. As pointed out 32GB, in practice, is far more than I'll ever need but I always prefer "no upper ,limit" support. That's I.

    Hi. I noticed that when you play a style in OTS mode, when a voice changed cut off the sound and that is not nice. i didn't have this issue with the PA4x korg. Even if i use the registration sounds could be cut off. Non smooth transition . Any tips?

  • @leoncastonguay3997

    @leoncastonguay3997

    Sorry. I never play using "One Touch Settings". NEVER. Indeed, the whole purpose of me creating this channel was to demonstrate how creating formal, pedal controlled, multi-part arrangements using "Registration Banks" is infinitely better than OTS. Playing using OTS is like playing an old vintage organ. It limits each performance to a very small percentage of your SX900's full capability. Plus, there is no way to make mix adjustments throughout the performance. You do make mix adjustments from part-to-part, don't you? If you don't, your performances will sound rather artificial, lacking full color, balance, and orchestral variety. Basically, they'll sound like electronic music. Just listen to one of John Beesley's performances and you will hear the difference. OTS is provided on modern instruments as a backward compatibility for people who play vintage organs and are unwilling (for whatever reason) to learn how to properly use modern electronic instruments. Modern arrangers can do so much more than vintage organs.

    Sturart Alexander: Although your SX700 will read my "Registration Bank Files", sorry but there is no guarantee that they will work as you see me play in the video. For example, if in one particular orchestral part I happen to use a treble voice that you do not have on your instrument, the sound may be silent, or your instrument may replace it with another. If I happen to use an accompaniment style that you do not have, then the instrument will probably use whatever style you had active before loading my arrangement into active memory, which of course would be totally inappropriate. Still, why don't you try out a few of them. Some of them may work fine. For those that don't work perfectly, you may be able to easily replace voices and styles that don't work with ones from your own instrument that do work. In the end, it is an arranger keyboard, and if you truly want to use it for that purpose, then you're probably going to want to formally arrange at least some of your performances. I do not view my uploads as arrangements that people will use for performances. They are simple practice pieces that provide an easy way for beginners to spruce up their practice work without any effort on their part, as well as guidance for people wanting to learn how arrangements are created and saved. So my work is really for educational purposes. The ultimate goal should really be to create, save, and hopefully share arrangements as I am doing. Best of luck.

    @@charlsbronson7474 I have no experience downloading voice files. I'm not even sure what that means. So I really don't know. Still, because my registration bank files address resident sounds, not imported sounds from some expansion pack, I doubt that my registration bank files would properly address them on the SX700 or SX600. Anyway, it's not really worth the trouble. The arrangement files that I created and offer for free download in this channel are only beginner level student examples to demonstrate the technique of formal orchestration on an electronic instrument using registration banks. I wouldn't think anyone would want to use them beyond the learning experience of seeing how all of this works. People should really be making their own arrangements using the work flow that I present in my instructional video, which is the first video that I uploaded to the channel, and possibly sharing their arrangements using my student examples as a guide.
