A quick tip on a lesson I learned about keeping my quail's feet happy and healthy.

I use KW rabbit cages, which come with 1/2" by 1" flooring. I was worried the spacing would be too big, but it works well as long as the quail are at least 2 weeks old - any younger and their feet are too small and fall through the wire. I do give them a sand box and a solid mat (cardboard or hemp or similar) that I change out often. I like them to be able to get all the way off the wire when they want to. Thanks for the video!
thanks for the tip... good word..
Cannot find the 1-inch by 1/2 in hardware cloth anywhere and I cannot find any link
Amazon link please. Sounds like a great idea.
It normally is galvanised then plastic coated afterwards
Can quails still get bumble foot from pvc coated hardware fabric? Also will the 1/2” by 1/2” still allow the poop to go through?

The size works fine for poop to go through, and PVC coated is preferred.

@@UrbanAviarybut would that prevent the quails from getting bumble foot? Someone on fb used pvc coated hardware fabric and her quails still got bumble foot. Now I’m worried.

It's the best thing I know of to prevent it, but there's no guarantee. Don't get overly worried about everything that could go wrong and just pull the trigger. You'll learn along the way. Just do the best you know to do. There's always going to be someone with an anecdote to confirm your fears. Just move forward and let experience be your teacher.

@@UrbanAviarywhat other things did you do to prevent bumble foot besides the pvc coated hardware fabric? I would like to know so that I could do the same :)

I was thinking of getting a power washer to wash off the poop off of the wiring.
What gauge wire?

I wonder if paint would help prevent rust. I think the rough rust might cause the bubble foot, but I'm not sure.
So I can either pay $11 for 2x25’ Or pay $168 for 3’x50’ 🤔 I’ll buy the cheaper and replace as needed every other year ✅ I used bunny cage with thick plastic coated and 2/6 got bumble foot from it. I healed em then 6 months later moved em to plane metal and no issues so far. I don’t see the difference. Scrub cleaning the plastic coated warm off some of the plastic then rusted instantly.

Hello, Do you think it is better with plastic coated or just plane metal?
The vedio have problems.
Im just not a fan of wire floors in general because of the injuries they can cause to the quail's feet. I mean coated wire is better but it is best to just use bedding. Also that cage was way too small for those coturnix you need a cage at least twice that size.
Nice set up! Check mine out

No that cage is way too small this is cruel. The cage should be at least 3 times the size and NO WIRE FLOORS!
Zero quality of life. That is battery style and should not be allowed.
NO animal should be forced to live on wire grate what the hell is wrong with you people.
