Jokic's recalculated score, just after Denver won the title: 1 championship = +2 points 1 finals MVP = +10.5 points 2 MVPs (previously had 1) + 7.5 points (for a total of 18 points) 6.64 assists per game = +1 point (since Lillard's average is now 6.70) WS/48: .2474 = +17 points PER: 27.7 = +19 points Shot making = ?? Impact and influence = ?? This gives him a total of 67.5, putting him in 13th overall If you give him a few points for shot making and impact/influence, then he could be as high as 10th overall. He would also gain 10+ points if we used total rebound percentage (TRB%) instead of total rebounds (a lot of the top rebounders played in an era where pace was much higher and shooting percentages were much lower, so there were waaaaay more rebounds to go around)...Jokic ranks 13th all-time in TRB% (and only behind Moses Malone, Dwight Howard and Joel Embiid amongst players on the top 110 list) since they began tracking it in 1970. He ranks ahead of Wes Unseld (5th highest RPG all-time) in TRB% -- who played all but 2 seasons after 1970. Using this criteria, he might gain 10-15 points, which would easily put him in the top 10 (according to this criteria)

Bird has to be in that influence and impact section. Him and Magic saved basketball and made it extremely popular. They set up the globalization that Jordan brought to the sport. Basketball wouldn’t have taken off the way it did in the 90s without Bird and Johnson. Bird is also hugely important because he got the white audience into basketball

Bird should be higher in the shot-making category. Arguably the greatest clutch shooter in the history of the game. Should also be part of the "Impact and Influence" rankings, since he and Magic re-ignited interest in a dying league.

These videos really highlight the shortcomings of using ranking over scoring in such a comparison. By assigning points based on ranks, some categories like # of MVPs or # of _ selections can create massive disparities in points. The difference between 10 and 11 selections shouldn't be way more valuable than the difference between 11 and 12. Also limiting to 20 in any category is going to inhibit well-rounded players who might not make the top 20 but consistently sit in the top half of the list.

I noticed ad had 18 points in the per stat but only 11 in the total counter. So even if he didn’t place at all in the other categories he should still be a little higher. Just an observation not really worried about it.

*Positives:* The whole damn project. Lotta work. Also, love the shout-outs to Moses Malone and Buck's-era Kareem. Highlighting Robinson's productivity was great (love Hakeem, but I'm always reminding people that Robinson was VERY similar in most stats). Whatever the minuses, overall this was really interesting, and I'm sure a lot of work. Thanks! *Minuses:* 1. Your two subjective lists have... um... problems. For Impact, Kobe was more impactful/influential than Curry, Russell, Chamberlain, Dr. J, and Magic? Come on now. And shouldn't Magic & Bird be joined at the hip when it comes to impact and influence, but Bird doesn't even make the list? (If you're including Magic's social impact for how he handled his HIV diagnosis, then he should be #1 hands down!) And as for "Shot Making", not only do you have Kobe over Jordan, but you have Kobe #1 and Jordan #13... when they're the damn same player in the sense of being a "shot maker" (and Jordan, although 1% less on 3PT%, was 4% more efficient overall.) The "Shot Making" list is just strange for all kinds of reasons (Ex: Are distance shooters "shot makers" because they can easily "create" by shooting from far away? And Kyrie #11? Over Wade and Jordan and Ice? No. And Vince Carter makes it, but A.I. doesn't? And again, Kyrie is #11, but A.I. ain't even on the list! And wasn't Wilt pretty good at making a shot? What about the logo? Legend has it that Elgin Baylor was pretty good too.) 2. The points given by rank are a little suspect. Ten All-NBA Teams gets you 1 point, but 11 All-NBA Teams gets you 8 points? And I assume 9 selections gets you nothing. Wes Unseld - who I checked to make sure he got his proper love - actually got too much love by your system. Players who had 7, 8, or 9 All-NBA selections should've be given something for that, to separate them from players like Unseld, who wasn't nearly so dominant for so long. 3. You triply messed up Wes Unseld's points (neglected his Final's MVP, didn't include his photo among the Championships, and incorrectly computed his score even given those two mistakes. This makes me wonder... did you do this by hand? I assume you used a spreadsheet, but if done by hand, then - _Holy Hell dude_ - that's WAAAY above and beyond.) 4. Ice Ice Baby! Under Shot Making, you put George Gervin #18. LOL Players in NBA history with 4 scoring titles in 5 years: Durant, Jordan, Gervin, Chamberlain. And Allen Iverson is the only other player to get 4 scoring titles total. And... Gervin spent his first 4 years in the ABA before the merger, so who knows if he might have had even more? And, for a wing, his career 2 PT % of 512 is, um... pretty good, eh? That SOB seemingly never missed. He's underappreciated.

I think the subjective lists threw this thing off massively. Kobe got 29 points from 'shot making' and 'influence', which pretty much cemented him top 5 instead of 7/8. How does Lebron not get a single point for shot making when he's pretty much the best player ever at driving and finishing at the rim (and has better efficiency than Kobe). Also the recency bias is insane. Luka ahead of Scottie Pippen? Lilliard is the 50th best player ever? Why? Because he shoots 3s efficiently?

Wilt needs to be higher than 10 for impact and influence. The league changed the rules so he couldn’t dominate as easily. No other player has that kind of influence. In terms of players that have changed the way we see the game, the way we watch basketball, the way we play basketball, he changed the way we see and play the game LITERALLY through the rules. No other player has done that.

I'm surprised Wilt isn't higher on the "Impact and Influence" list. He caused more NBA rule changes than any other player in history. They had to literally change the game so he wouldn't be so dominant! This is probably just my personal bias though...I always feel Wilt gets far too little respect in these debates.

A lot of 60s players won’t get their due here. All defensive teams didn’t exist until after their time, and Russell and Wilt are two of the best defenders ever. Defense seems undervalued on this list, at least to me. FMVP is another one. He gave bill the one spot, but wilt would have another FMVP too, which would give him even more points. Crazy they’re both top 5 even without these shoe-in total point boosters

Mistake: You left of that Wes Unseld was a Final's MVP. That gives him a regular season MVP (+10.5), a Final's MVP (+10.5), a Championship (+2), and #5 all time RPG (+16), for 39 points, making him #27 all time (moving one ahead of Jerry West, which is of course absurd). Also, you had his total at 29.5, but if you only included #5 RPG (+16) and regular season MVP (+10.5), then somehow you gave him 3 more points that I didn't see (I didn't see his picture among those with 1 ring, and that still would've only been 2 points, not 3, making a total - with your oversight - 28.5, not 29.5).

And MJ at no. 13 at shot making? 10 scoring titles, highest career ppg, 50% career FG% as a shooting guard, one of the deadliest midrange shooters of all time. Not sure what his basis on that list. Im sure creativity is ignored bec no way steph, klay, ray allen and kd are more creative than mj. I guess 3 pt shooting takes a lot of the percentage. But he got the rest of lists right.

Such a switch was nothing new to Wilt b/c his highest postseason average was 37 ppg (3 games) rather than the absurd 50 ppg (80 games) in the regular season. He's a good player though and is pretty agile for his height with great shooting capabilities/basketball IQ. However, SHAQ is great don't get me wrong. He had quite a few flaws in his game though such as hack a shaq. Is it shitty KD joined the warriors to win championships? yeah. Lebron did the same thing too. Oh and I don’t have Michael as number one… I don’t enjoy the cult around him. There’s having an opinion, then there’s people trying to beat you down and make you see the same way they do. There’s plenty of room for contention. “I understand Basketball’s a team game, and you’ve already made Michael number one, but if you had to have Wilt against Michael, my prime and his prime… How much money would you be willing to bet?” -Wilt Chamberlain

I certainly wouldn't count DPOY or best scorer. Just like I wouldn't count MVPs. Because there's no second, 2rd, 3rd, 4th... place. One gets all the credit and others don't exist at all. You could be the 2nd best defensive player for 10 years and have 10 different guys taking first place, overall you're definitely the best defensive player over these 10 years and get no points. You could score 28 pts for 10 seasons and never be the best scorer.

Steals/blocks are heavily influenced by era and DPOY is no where near MVP, if you value DPOY like an MVP guys like Dwight are top 20

Unfortunately, I feel that Jimmy is just as guilty of this as those you mentioned. He often uses misleading charts with manipulated scales to make things look crazy when there isn't necessarily statistically significant going on. He is a good storyteller though. The videos are good entertainment, but not ideal in terms of stats analysis.

The whole "shotmaking" category was ill thought out in the first place imo, because it introduced an unfair bias towards guards. Why not just take an efficiency stat like true shooting or fg% instead.

Yeah the whole concept was a bit odd. Centers get gimped, which for guys like Kareem for instance, who literally only needed one shot to be able to be the all time leading scorer, makes no sense. Then when the 3 pt shot came around it automatically rewards them for adopting it while yes is a great skill to have, punishes the people who were making shots against guys in the paint or mid range before the 3pt shot became so main stream.

@@andrecarter1590 if we’re being completely honest he made the ‘shot making’ category for Kobe because Kobe was nowhere to be seen on player efficiency rating and would’ve been below Magic and Duncan without it. Because if we’re being honest, shot making comes with efficiency, I could make a 360 layup but if I’m not doing it consistently then I’m not a good shot maker. That just seemed like a very bias list especially since he said “from anywhere on the court” then put Steph who shoots better then Kobe from everywhere on the court percentage wise, below Kobe who was a below average outside shooter.

Very late to the party, but I think an interesting ranking to use would be a player who changed how the game is played, or even changed the rules. I would have to give first to Shaq because he broke backboards and changed how they were built. Other people that would be considered for changing how the NBA is played would be Steph and Klay, really pushing the change for more three pointers. I would also say that Tim Duncan and the spurs roster are also very important because more international players started to get drafted following their insane performances.
