A great hint to get almost retina like text on a Mac, use a USB-C to HDMI cable and set the resolution to 3008x1692, sure it's a little larger than normal, but much clearer. BTW, Activity Monitor says the resolution is 6016x3384 (same resolution as the XDR) but scaled.

Awesome tips and tricks. I bought a LG C2 42", which I'm using now. I got around the ABL by setting HDMI input to PC and choose either the isf modes and/or game mode. Under there the dark isf mode is set to 63 OLED pixel brightness, contrast to 80, gamma to BT.1886, color dept under Color to 55 and sharpness to 0, which also helps in some games. light isf is set to 93 OLED pixel brightness, contrast to 80, gamma to 2.2, color dept to 55 and sharpness to 0. This way, you still have your warrenty. I hope it works for you too.

@@user-ru8wn6cs9h thank you for asking. So I still use the above settings. They are very good for my eyes as I'm sitting around an 80 cm from the screen. I have no burn in and I'm using it for when I work from home, in the evening just browsing and develop, gaming both on PC and Xbox plus also using it as a TV some times. All in all very happy with it. I really can't go back to normal monitor after having this TV with glossy screen. Today I would probably take the LG C3 instead of C2...just because technology gets better and it is newer 🙂But other than that, I can highly recommed it.

I use a Caldigit box that acts like a dock for my Macbook Pro. It has a Display Port on the back. I then bought a high quality cable that is Display Port at the source, and HDMI at the screen. By one that supports HDMI 2.1 and 48Gbps. That worked like a champ! Also, great info in this video. Thank you! Loved the hard-coded numbers for switching between inputs.

    1. To see the basic potential of the OLED display, set the computer to the resolution of the TV panel (normally 3840x2160). 2. Picture modes other than Vivid/Standard such as Filmmaker, are likely to be much more neutral technically (check review settings at rtings, techradar etc.) 3. Picture > Advanced settings > Clarity > Adjust Sharpness > set to 0 (out of 50). Once (1) and (2) were dialled in, this aspect became more visible. 4. For Linux Gnome or Windows users, if under settings for Display > Scale you find yourself torn between two values, then try in addition Accessibility > text size. 5. From rtings (for C2) "For an optimal PC .... experience and proper chroma 4:4:4 support, it's important to set the input icon to 'PC' for the HDMI port you are using." Input button > Home Dashboard > Edit Inputs > click on the HDMI port icon to the side of the desired input. I'm not a gamer so I haven't used the Game Optimizer settings.

Hey man nice tips for helping out those getting started with LG OLEDs. Just wanted to mention something that took me months to learn for the tip of turning screen off. When you use the TV with game mode (in a PC or Console) the quick settings menu is replaced by a gaming mode settings and you have no access to the turn off screen option anymore. To get it back AND keep the game mode on, you have to go to Settings > All Settings > General > Game Optimizer > Game Dashboard and turn it off. And if you need to go back to the game dashboard, just add a quick settings shortcut for it (has the icon of a gamepad) Now you have the best of both worlds! :)

I’m not sure if someone has mentioned it till now. But 4k@120hz and 10bit color works with all m1 and above macs using a specific usb c to hdmi adapter and firmware. You need to have a cable matters 8k usb c to hdmi2.1 adapter with vmm7100 chip. Using this also fixes the issue with the input type switching when disconnected. I have a 42 c3 and 14” m1 works awesome now at 120hz and 10bit.

I've had my 42" C2 for a little while now. Love the picture. I just finished building my new PC, however, I can't get it to display any picture at all on the C2. It's as if no input is even plugged in. Everything turns on and the fans and RGB on the case, GPU, RAM, and cooler all work fine. Looks great, but no display! I've been trouble shooting for a week now to no avail. I've popped the CMOS and drained the power, tried booting from the integrated graphics, did bios flashback again on the Z690 for 13th gen, all kinds of stuff. Unfortunately, I don't have a single other monitor to test the new build with to see if it will post. My old monitor only has a DVI connection and I don't have a converter. I've heard that some displays won't first post on certain 4k monitors or TVs, and you first need to set up windows, the drivers, and the resolution first. I have no idea why that would be, as it sort of defeats the purpose of using it as a monitor, but I'm hoping I can find a solution soon. I have thousands of dollars worth of stuff just sitting, waiting to be used...every day I can't get it working I start sweating more and more lol

@@Ahnestly Thanks. The 2.1 cable works on other devices. What I just discovered is that the system posts when I finally plugged it into a different TV. My guess is that, for some reason, the C2 wants the system to already be set up with windows, drivers, etc before displaying a picture. A week of useless troubleshooting just to have everything work on a different display. Hoping I don't run into problems with the C2 once I get everything set up on my other display.

JUST bought an LG C2 and love it. Just to add to the tips: If you're experiencing flickering or screen tearing w/ an OLED LG TV and use GSYNC, it's unfortunately a hardware issue involving changing gamma curves in VRR. The panel can't change gamma curves fast enough if framerates change quickly w/ GSYNC. The only solution is to turn if off. In the week that I've own mine using it for both work and gaming, it's happened 3 times, curiously only while I was watching YT. I disable it when using the desktop and enable it during games, and from what I've read pairing the LG C2 w/ a 3080 TI makes sure those fast framerate changes don't happen frequently. It's something to consider. Gaming w/o GSYNC isn't a bad experience at all, and assuming you have stable framerates in your system you should be perfectly fine if you can run > 80 FPS regardless.

@@ashouaxiong1404Absolutely yes. 3080 TI here. Just 4k 60fps is worth it. I would wait though, I got it at Best Buy for $800 for the 42" version. It's way better than the Neo G7 or Neo G8. Didn't buy them, just saw them at the store and didn't think they were good enough value for the cost.

It should be fixed, Pronto. It's a verified feature, and partly why I bought it. If it's not working correctly, then it should be a top priority to fix and it's bullshit that it's not. I paid for a feature that's broken.

I use dual 40" TV (regular 1080p) and it works great. Biggest problem with viewing bigger TVs (50" or more) on desk is the angle you are watching when looking at tv's corners. If you are looking at corner content, you are viewing it at 45 degrees and you have to move your whole body to see it well, which makes it useless. My viewing distance is about 1 meter, which gives me plenty of desk space for hardware projects.

The best method of connecting an external monitor to the m1 (M1 Max in my case but even applies to the common m1) is to use one of the thunderbolt 4 ports. I've seen some video demonstrating the use of an adapter + HDMI 2. My advice however is to use a Display Port 1.4 and a DP 1.4->USB C cable (thunderbolt 3 or 4) and that supports 8K. This way, you will have 4K in a 120Hz refresh. In my case, I use a 5K (5120x1440) monitor with 120Hz. I believe it achieves a full 4K and 120Hz resolution even though it is a TV. Attention! The cable is very important and probably the cable that comes with the TV or monitor needs to be updated. When it comes to cables and adapters, sin by the excess: choose something that supports between 5K and 8K with the best refresh rates.

  • @Ahnestly

I don’t think this works. TVs don’t have usb c or display port, so you’re talking about going from hdmi 2.1 to DP to tb4. Apple has limited the speeds on their end through weird software limitations, so 4k 120hz is not possible atm

@@Ahnestly HDMI 2.1 is 48Gbit/s. It exceeds the Thunderbolt 40Gbit/s speed which is why you can't run 4K120 using the TB4 or TB4 ports. This is only an issue on the M1 devices. The M2 devices with an HDMI port come with HDMI 2.1 You can run DP1.4 at 4K120 as it runs it within the Thunderbolt speeds. For M1 devices a TV is not an option for this if you want to get the full refresh rate capable. M2 devices on the other hand can just go HDMI to HDMI and get it. It isn't a software limitation. The M1's with HDMI have the older HDMI 2.0 port installed with the slower bandwidth; it is hardware. Fortunately there are alternatives out that you can run over DP1.4, like the LG Ultra Gear 48in OLED or the Aorus 48in OLED. There are also 42in OLED monitors from KTC, INNOCN, and ASUS. They all us various versions of the LG OLED displays. I believe the KTC and INNOCN use the latest ones you will see on the LG C2 and C3 monitors.

Hi - Nice video, thank you. I had a question about productivity workflow when using an OLED. I recently switched from 3 IPS 27" monitors to a single screen, using the LG 42" OLED. I absolutely love the additional screen space and the experience when gaming etc is great. I can easily capture HDR footage after changing settings in OBS too. However when loading said HDR footage into DaVinici Resolve (or Adobe) it appears washed out etc. After some googling it would appear that people who use OLED for colour correction etc edit on a separate PC/monitor and pass the HDR content through e.g. a DeckLink capture PCIE card and to the OLED, which will then display it properly. So I was interested in what your workflow is or if you've run into any issues etc?

The only thing I wish I can solve is ulrawide ratio and full screen in games for the best hdr performances. I have a lg cx and i'm stuck with widow mode. Now I know that the c1 and c2 have a utrawide mode built in but there is not to much info about it since the subject is really niche. Even LG support doesn't have a clue of what i'm talking about, seems like my only way of figure this out is to purchase and experience my self. So, does ultrawide mode on the c1 and c2 allow you (with custom resolution frome the nvidia control panel) to go full screen at 60hz with 10bit color in HDR with Gsync ON ? Thank you

For disabling the auto-dimming. I have a C3 so I had to enable the hidden menu and do the step mentioned. It works but then I can no longer control brightness from the standard menu and I have to play around with the advance menu and it doesn't seem to play well ... I've just reset it to standard ... disabled "eco mode" and set to PC / gaming mode and it's really not that bad ... I prefer that then having a static high brightness that is pretty annoying to change manually.

Have you ever thought that you shouldve gone smaller or bigger than your 48 inch TV? I hear 42 is nice and so is 55. I'd imagine its all preference but the price seems solid for the LG C2. Im just in a bind whether I should wait for the future LG models or for the prices of the LG C2 to drop even more (currently 1200 for the 55inch).
