Thanks, I inherited a Winchester Model 94 from my grandfather and it has a saddle ring. He didn't know what it was nor how to use it. i have one on my Red Ryder bb gun I got when I turned 16. So I was able to explain it to him but not sure how to use it but now I do. Thanks.

You should be in the barn next to your horse and tack for a true demo. And for hunting they need to be "quieted" to keep them from rattling and making noise. They were provided to ensure the soldier was never separated from his carbine.

I use a Magpul MS4 sling for all my rifles this has QD plugs to attatch to the rifle and can be 2 point or single point changed in seconds. I find it very comfortable to carry while hunting . All my rifles have a QD cup in that area Im hoping to fit on to the Marlin 1895 tho i ant see a modern QD Saftey delete option . I think the Saddle ring and a clip maybe the way to go on that point untill i can work out how to make or fit a QD cup :)

If I may ask, why do you have to remove the crossbolt safety to carry in that configuration? is it just a little too fiddly to get off from that position or perhaps because it will rub against your body and potentially disengage? excuse my ignorance, thanks :)

Glad you're enjoying the channel. The saddle ring mechanism replaces the crossbolt safety. That's the way it is designed. There may be others out there which don't but I don't know of any.

I have an original 1894 carbine with sadle ring stud but the ring is missing, Do you install sadle rings on original Winchesters?

Unfortunately, I'm not a gunsmith so I am not licensed to work on other people's guns. I just work on my own. Sorry. I'm out in the Lower Mainland B.C., if you are in this area you might try Dalisk or Delisk. He's a highly regarded gunsmith around these parts. He's located in the Tilbury industrial park in Delta.

Is that a 45-70? Bore certainly looks big enough.

Well, I grew up believing that the saddle ring was to secure the gun in a leather scabbard on a horse with a leather knot. I also grew up believing that in the military a lanyard was only used on hand guns.

What sling brand is that?

The brand is Outdoor Connection. But realistically any one point or combination two point/one point will work well.
