We need this for Google, Nvidia, Asus/ROG, Dell/Alienware, HP, Razer, etc.. Sure Microsoft gathering telemetry to monitor and 'improve' Windows OS is potentially harmful, but why do the other companies need to sniff all of our data.

You too
Absolutely delighted about this video. Thank you so much!!! * Question to you sir if you don't mind. After turning on my desktop PC this morning 28/06/2023, I received a message that the Windows firewall is not on nor active. The irritating thing is that one can't get the FW to reset itself by clicking the "red reset " button as if there is nothing behind it! I used a restore to restore my system with luckily only a few problems. What I need to know is, could it be that the mass of telemetry issues turned off in the advance-section-of-the-FW would have had anything to do with crashing the firewall. If so, how can I go ahead and correct/reverse all these setting back to normal. Thank so much for your valuable video's and advice always.
Excellent video - this worked perfectly. Thanks so much
Once again, a great informative video. Thanks a lot.👍

The true meaning of fighting fire with fire 😆, nice.
The only issue with this tip is the likelihood that, A. You will need to re do it after every update due to the rules being reset and or the spyware being renamed. B. Ms knowing that people do this will create backdoors through the firewall surreptitiously, probably creating exploits for hackers to take advantage of. A third party firewall might be a slightly better choice for this. On a side note. If an application that’s blocked by the third party firewall causes the computer to freeze or crash but doesn’t when blocked by the ms firewall or there’s no internet connection you know there’s something smelly going on. Especially if the application shouldn’t need internet access.
Another option is to create a custom Windows ISO with telemetry removed. Of course, that would require reinstalling Windows with the custom ISO.

until an update...
If you have an anti-virus program that manages the firewall would the script still work or would you have to put the block rules in the AV firewall manually, I use Bitdefender which manages windows defender on win 10.
I'm very sceptical that this works. Since early windows 10 days, svchost's connections to microsoft servers completely bypass HOSTS file blocking. The telemetry also reverts to hardcoded IP-addresses if you try to block dns queries of microsoft URLs. I have every reason to believe that for telemetry, svchost just completely ignores the built in firewall.
I have Norton looking after the Firewall on my Chuwi mini, can I still use your instructions to further block any info mining by Microsoft?
This is precisely what I was looking for! To answer the pinned comment: Absolutely I would go "this far" and MUCH further to block all telemetry going out from my devices of this nature. Im currently trying to harden a desktop that I have reformatted and reinstalled recently to ensure that it stays secure.
Thanks a lot!

Can I use this .bat file while using DoNotSpy11 or does DoNotSpy11 do the samething as the .bat file? Any feedback is appreacited
I've tried blocking all of microsoft cdn's, but after an update they reset my block list back to default and especially after a restarting of windows
Another straight forward way is to join a domain. Yes, that means you have to have at least Windows 10 or 11 Pro and a server running a domain controller, but I'm seriously considering putting Windows server on my file server just to be able to shut all that crap off with one simple action. If only that worked for all the other people collecting our data.
Brian mate when I click on the firewall settings in the control panel it tells me that ESET is managing these services - what do I do in my situation?? Is ESET still letting this data go through and can adding that batch file stop ESET form doing that? Now I have added that script and when I open Advanced settings I can see that script at the top of the listings and it says stopped but the rest are listed as all? Plus mate it seems to me that there are more settings to take over from the settings one blocks and it is a real circus of swings and roundabouts that one must negotiate to make sure Microsoft don't get one's data.
Blocking traffic is good, but all processes are still collecting data, I mean, as for me major priority to stop wasting hardware resources for collecting personal data. Thanks for video

Thank you ...
I found the website linked in this video, the initial post was done September 24th 2015. Reading the comments below it on that post there are a lot of issues people are running into like not being able to access certain websites, and not being able to use windows updates. I am a very privacy focused person to the point that I use pihole and unbound dns, but I am also worried about being able to download security updates from microsoft still. This isn't me crapping on your video, it has me intrigued, but I need to investigate more first. I also saw a comment that wireshark shows microsoft can bypass it's own host file rules so I wouldn't be surprised if it can bypass it's own firewall rules too? I do use Chris Titus's script to remove telemetry and I also use O&O Shutup 10+
The batch file is dated 24/9/2015 is there an updated version as I am pretty sure MS will have added others?
This will give less latency for game and improve ping on game??

This is a great idea to stop MS spying, but one thing. Will it prevent MS Edge from saving my profile? How about the scenario where I'm using a third-party security suite? Since doing so causes the Windows firewall to indicate it is off, can this trick still be used? I'm guessing not, but thought I'd ask. A great, easy way to stop them with their own work!

It's microsoft. They were aware that people could do this with their firewall from the first day they designed it because they want you to be able to block stuff. 99% of users will never even know what a firewall is much less ever configure one to block telemetry. Theyh're not going to hamper your ability to use their firewall which is very powerful. At least in the Pro versions of Win11 which is admittedly a pay for OS and not a free one.

This helps with the OS and installed apps that collect data but does not help with data harvesting from websites you visit using a browser. There are two sides to this coin.
telemetry data collection is a legal thing. they still can not leaked the data over to the third party. every data is collected in either microsoft or subsidiary of microsoft. the moment you use any google services, your data is already collected, yes including using this youtube platform.
