One last helpful tip I think you missed - filter forwarded emails from your alternate account, by labeling them automatically, with a label that would identify which account they came from. This will be a very visual way of not confusing yourself that it came to your base email account.

I noticed that after setting up the forwarding feature, emails identified as Junk stay in the Junk folder and don't get forwarded! Any idea how this could be fixed?

How do I do the opposite of this? I have multiple Gmail accounts that I want to be separate. They are all merged. They get more or less the same emails as the other accounts which defeats the purpose of having multiple emails. How do I unmerge my Gmail accounts?
