USA: LOS ANGELES: REACTION TO THE ACQUITTAL OF OJ SIMPSON

(3 Oct 1995) English/Nat
It was a trial that many say was defined by race. In Los Angeles, reaction to the acquittal of OJ Simpson varied along those lines. For many blacks, the verdict drew cheers.
For many whites, there was amazement that Simpson now walks a free man.
The verdict was met with jubilation from Simpson supporters outside the courthouse where he was acquitted.
The reaction to the finding of O-J Simpson's innocence varied from satisfaction to amazement.
SOUNDBITE:
"I think it's great. he deserved to go free, they had no evidence on him."
SUPER CAPTION:Vox pop
SOUNDBITE:
"So much evidence for delivery as short as they did and to come back with a not guilty verdict. I think it shows the jury was pretty irresponsible and that money can buy you justice, exactly."
SUPER CAPTION: Vox pop
Cheers after the verdict in predominately black south central Los Angeles. But reaction to the Simpson acquittal was in many cases split along racial lines.
SOUNDBITE:
"I think this jury sent a message that the time has come here in Los Angeles and America that indeed, there must be a level playing filed for everybody."
SUPER CAPTION:Vox pop
SOUNDBITE:
"I just don't think justice was served, I don't think they did their job. I think they knew what they were going to do from the gate. I think it was racist based and racist from the black point of view."
SUPER CAPTION:Vox pop
The debate will continue over whether justice was served in the so-called Trial of the Century. But the thoughts of many - even in Simpson's exclusive home suburb of Brentwood - were with the victims.
SOUNDBITE:
"I just feel that in my mind he was guilty and I really felt sorry for the families. I'm going to cry. this is our system and if they found him not guilty there's nothing we can do about it."
SUPER CAPTION: vox pop

idk why white folk mad at the oj verdict, when they clearly seen rodney almost get beat to death , cops found not guilty white folk wasn't upset. Didnt shed one damn tear.. fuck em. Furthermore Fuhrman was the star witness of the prosecution.. its the prosecutions job to get the jurors to find the defendant guilty. Not the defense job to prove the prosecutions case. FUHRMAN pled the 5th to the question "did you plant or manufacture any evidence in this case"???.. BOOM.. its over for the prosecution

Read Outrage by V. Bugliosi. Everything you need to know, EVERYTHING without a single omission is there. 200 % guilty. A mockery of justice. The guy should have been locked for the rest of his life. Shame on the so-called dream team, Cochran first, for having played such awful and shameless cards. Don’t you see black folks that those people just used you? They abused your legitimate feelings just to release a murderer.

@arnaud i've got that book (was originally my dad's.) great book indeed and bugliosi was right with so much he said but two things i'll point out. first if he had tried that case he too would have lost i believe, not so much because of the dream team but more so that jury (at least the majority of them) were never convicting oj. the other thing, which has nothing to do with simpson, is bugliosi himself should have been disbarred before the manson trial. i heard this guy (forget his name) talk on joe rogan about bugliosi's personal life during the 60s and 70s. i think the guy even said this info was public record. but after what he said about him i lost all respect for bugliosi. he may have not murdered two people like oj, but he's a piece of shit just like oj. i know i'm not perfect and far from it, none of us are but if u get a chance watch the rogan clip on bugliosi.

@imadbasayev first off u never answered my question from my last comment so that tells me u haven't watched or read any RELA FACTS about the case. and like i said before, getting a not guilty verdict in trial and actually being innocent of the crime are TWO DIFFERENT THINGS. not hard to follow but believe what u want. can't fix stupid.

Oj said that he "felt like a battered husband" . Why nobody wanna talk about oj receiving a beating just like Nicole Brown Simpson...Nicole jumped oJ, and tossed a large stack of books( on his chest) while he was helpless lying on the couch with a high fever and sweating pRofusely ...you wanna talk domestic violence? Nobody wants to hear what she did to oj...porque??

he said he's a "battered husband" because men who abuse women are narcissists who always view themselves as the victims. absolute loser who ruined his own life. he will always be remembered as a murderer before anything else.

@@oleander7635 ok, first of all OJ certainly is not a great human being, he has his faults just like her...truthfully, he should not have married a women such as her! They were a terrible couple..However Nicole was a poor choice as a wife as well...At least oj was a very talented/ gifted world class Athlete as well as a average actor and all around entertainer and charismatic showman and personality that the vast majority of the American people loved and revered... He was truly a gifted man who may have had something to do with murders...however, I believe that 2 reasons definitively tells me that he may not be the killer!! #1, I do not believe that oj would murder his children's Mom, ( especially leaving the door open so a stranger could enter) #2, I think that furhmam picked up a glove at Nicole's house and took it to OJs house...furhmam was a dirty cop..#3, vannater possibly carried OJs blood around looking for an opportunity to sprinkle blood around at OJs house...I'm still not sure actually what happened though...as for the beatings, Yes, he admitted to that, but not after 1989...

@@oleander7635 may I add one last opinion on the oj Case...I must say, I am terribly sorry for Nicole's murder, although I concur with oj when he stated that the actual culprit/ bad guy indeed may be lurking around LA...oj stated that he is fearful to return to LA to because he could encounter him rite next to him and he wouldn't even know!!...plus, reputedly, Nicole and Ron allegedly were involved in illicit drugs and someone from that dark world may have exacted vengeance on them...
