I played American football for 20 years but I'm jealous of European soccer crowd atmospheres. Dortmund is the black and yellow team at 4:00. I was at one of their games in Germany a few years ago when they were playing Koln the red team that was in the next clip. I've never been in such an amazing atmosphere. Among my American acquaintances, there are many who see the rest of the world through the "outside the U.S. it's Disney world" lens. At first, they find it funny. But when things become too different from what they know, they quickly get scared and feel like they've landed with the cannibals in the jungle. When they stand in line at the airport and meet other Americans, they say they'll be so glad to be back in America soon. Not everyone is so distraught, but unfortunately many are. Ms. Jennings could be one of those.
It's not soccer, it's football. The american game "football" they barely kick the ball.

you mean US soccer, most of America has been playing football for over a hundred years, you guys are just late to the party, but good to have you finally join the most popular sport on earth on a more competitive level.
Thing to remember is national league teams represent most or all of entire states, most of which have several million citizens. You can buy tickets to games waaaaay ahead of time, so even the bigger stadiums tend to be packed full of mostly only the superest of super fans, and yes, they often drink excessively. Its a unique experience, fascinating to non-fanatics who dare venture inside, but it become concerning and even a bit embarrassing very quickly.
One of the fiercest rivalries in American football is the Iron Bowl, played every Thanksgiving weekend between the University of Alabama and Auburn University. But, despite the seriousness of this game, the fans enter the stadium together and depart the stadium together. You don't see European and South American soccer fans doing this. They even have fencing inside some of those big soccer stadiums to keep the fans apart. We don't have "soccer riots" at American football games.

Despite their attempts often falls short It really irks me that the devoted US fans doesn't get a bit of respect for at least trying their best to create an atmosphere. At least they are trying.
Seattle Washington is often referred to as "The Emerald City," mostly because of the very green flora which is a result of all the rain. Washington State is also known as "The Evergreen State" because of all the evergreen trees. Fir and Pine and Spruce and Cedar and such are common here.
You mention empty seats at the front, some competitions have stricter safety rules than others and clubs will sometimes be required to have a couple empty rows at the front if their seats are too close so that the stewards have space to watch the crowd.
"What coutry is this? brazil?" sums up americans

Long term planning suggestion. You should plan a trip for next year's Thanksgiving in the USA. Find a family that could host you for Thanksgiving, but also has access to take you to a college football game the Saturday before T-Day. That Saturday usually has a lot of 'cross town rival' college football games. But, you want to go with a family that will let you experience the 'pre-game' tailgate parties that go on, with all kinds of foods and fun stuff. you should target somewhere in the south east USA or Texas. Then you could stick around for more post T-day events. Just make sure that you don't plan on flying out the Monday after T-Day, that is second busiest travel day, only exceeded by the Wednesday for T-Day, which is always on Thursday. I am sure you would get loads of video of a month of posts. Love your videos.

Not meant to be negative DJ, but to me the only way to truly compare the two would be to attend a game/match itself. Most sports are very different in person vs. on TV. Especially the energy level of the crowd. However I do understand not loving big crowds. And yes right on DJ that a lot of American professional sports (and other things) get marketed as “family friendly” events. Perhaps you could review a replay of the NFL games played in London or recently in Munich. That would be interesting to see how the crowds differ from US crowds. Either way just keep up the great work as those of us across the pond enjoy all of your videos DJ!
geekofix 1 month ago Hello from Germany, great video. The stadium at 5:15 is build like that on purpose. German engineering/construction. In Europe, but also in South America, fan culture looks a little different. Here in Europe, fans organize themselves into fan clubs and spend a lot of free time with and for the club. Very often, even the whole family is involved. I can recommend you to visit a game if you ever visit Germany or another European country. You will have a good time. But the US has some clubs with a similar fan culture like for example Detroit FC, Columbus Crew SC or FC Cincinnati. A friend told me Rugby is a game played by hooligans and watched by gentlemen...soccer/football is a game played by gentlemen and watched by hooligans. American soccer fans are really different from American football fans (maybe it's the weather due to the time of year the season is played) . The street thing is called the march in...team supporters march from their pub to the stadium (at least in Orlando)

You’ve got it twisted. The saying goes, “Football is a gentleman’s game played by hooligans, and rugby is a hooligan’s game played by gentlemen.”
There's much more passion involved in European football. It becomes part of the lifestyle and creates a whole community of its own. I recommend you to watch a video about a Turkish team (Fenerbahce) where supporters were banned from the game and was decided to fill the stadium with only female supporters and kids. Around 12000 fans were expected and tickets were printed accordingly. But 43000 fans (female + kids) ended up filling the stadium.
European don't call this sport soccer. They call it football. So don't mixed up.
soccer(futbol) they like to dance and chant more where american football the audience likes to drink beer, eat some food, watch the game, and cheer on touchdowns/incetercepts. I like Chewies blanket on the couch he looks happy in the background. Tuesday video made my day awesome. A great thanksgiving gift thanks Diane.

NOT SOCCER JUST FOOTBALL !
when someone says "Soccer", we already know that this person is unaware of the real pleasure of Sport.
I'm not a big sports fan. But if I'm going to watch any sports, it would be American football, then world football (soccer), then basketball. Off topic, but I love how Chewie brings out your playful side. That's just adorable watching you with him. He's a cute dog. 😊
American sports: People pay to watch to a spectacle while drinking, eating and selfying Calcio/Fursball/Futebol/Football: Fans do the spectacle
Idk why, but as german and hearing the whole crowd singin this reminds of a different timeline in human Evolution 😂 if you know what i mean. But its crazy here, soccer is very highly watched here
Wasn’t expecting a regular Tuesday clip. I don’t remember one on Tuesday before! In Vancouver our whitecaps MLS have fan club: south siders also in MLS we are beginning to referee to teams as football clubs so association football ( soccer came from association )
03:55 Europa, 04:10 Brazil. Good job, my American friend. 🤣🤣🤣
Soccer only started to gain popularity in the USA during the 1980s. So it’s a relatively new fandom.
In USA you use speakers, in Europe we are the speakers

It’s a lot calmer and more wholesome in a sense I would argue because there are A LOT of state, troopers and other law-enforcement walking around and don’t forget about the surveillance and stadium jail( they even have a judge)
Well, at a football game in Philadelphia the fans threw snowballs at Santa Clause.
Happy Tuesday! I really enjoy this video.
Europa !....What country is this...Brazil ? 🤦🏽♂
Thank you for cursing us with the hot pillow Diane! 🔥
Difference is that in Europe we are actually fans of teams while America dont have real fans

Agree with you completely. That "fight and win" guy must have had too many beers.
The only reason why you seen very little of american football is because your chants and fans are cringe and dont put enough passion into their teams. Us people from Europe we put our hearts and souls into our teams that’s what makes the sport you call soccer a massive sport in our continent.
Family versus thuggery is a better comparison. We take our kids and grandparents to games. But at least you got the names right.
Yes it does feel good to be the person who starts the chant 😄
these aren't even the crazy european ones.
I lived in Italy when they won the World Cup in '82 and went to a couple of PSV Eindhoven games in the Netherlands. I also played 6 years of American football and 1 season of soccer. IMHO, the action and excitement of soccer takes place in the stands (especially in Europe) as opposed to American football, where most of the excitement is on the field. For me, it is far easier to watch American football on television than soccer. Just how I see it...I am certain others may feel otherwise.

If you know the rules of american football, than you're right. But explaining tthe rules of AF to an old german soccerfan isn't funny.... Why do they allways stop playing and spot the ball... why are the plays so short... why is he kicking now.... try to teach my father in law the rules of american football, but i gave up^^

@B F2021 the „stop/start“ nature of american footbal makes every play a possible Highlight play, so i also don‘t understand the critisism of it. But for someone who came from soccer and didn‘t understand the beaty of football it‘s hart to understand
You're more likely to Euro-style fandom in American college football, or with some baseball teams like the Boston Red Sox. The whole "Sweet Caroline" thing started at Fenway Park in Boston.
at first i thought she can’t be American but when she said Brazil for a club in Europe 😂🤦🏻🤦🏻

To answer your question: YES, US Football fans can get as UGLY as certain English soccer/football fans. Bad chants, throwing things, storming the field, fights, you name it. I have been involved in an activity called Marching Band, in the late 1980's (High School) and early 1990's (College). I have to admit, much to my shame, I have chanted some "bad" things in high school. It was pep band for basketball, but my school's team was always getting unfavorable calls on our home court. So, the referees got the blunt of our eyrie. My freshman year at Arizona State University (Tempe, Arizona), as a member of ASU's Marching Band (The Sun Devil Marching Band), I got a taste of worst behavior. Because it was an even numbered year, the ASU/UofA (University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona) football game was in Tucson that year. School/team rivalries in the US can get just as ugly as school/team rivalries in Europe. The morning was fine, as both ASU's and UofA's bands hung out, practiced our joint number, had lunch together, and I even got to mingle with the members of UofA's chapters for Kappa Kappa Psi (Fraternity) and Tau Beta Sigma (Sorority) (Fraternal Organizations dedicated to supporting bands and music.) Everything was fine. Even when one group played their fight song, the other group would playfully sing their alternative lyrics to said fight songs. It was the march over from the practice field to the stadium (in full Maroon and Gold polyester/wool uniforms) did the ugliness start. Kids as young as five were saying things (while being encouraged by their parents) that I would have had my ears boxed in by my mom and dad if I had ever uttered them. Glass bottles were being flung at us, and one broke near me, showering my pant cuffs in the remains of a brown beer bottle. Never experienced anything worse, thank goodness. But have seen fights, and sometimes people getting stabbed and/or shot makes the news at some places.
That video is pretty mild. There are certain teams out there who illustrate why fan is short for fanatic, and are notorious for rioting, win or lose. Also on the NFL side, the tailgate parties are part of the experience.
This video is the longest I have ever watched soccer in my life.
