Yay! Love seeing your quailies. Hope they enjoy their new funky home. I used to house mine in a hutch setup but last year built a raised run so it is easy for me to clean, collect eggs and interact with them without hurting my creaky knees and back. I have them on woodchip as well as providing a sand dust bath. I went mad buying rabbit hutch accessories so they have little hidey holes. They are great little creatures, I agree. Look forward to seeing you hatch more. All the best. Mags BTW, if you ever want to introduce a different bloodline I'd happily send you some hatching eggs. Mine are bog standard Coturnix but lovely nevertheless :)

One of the reasons this was being passed on was it is very low to access! They love little hidey holes etc, don't they? And thanks for the offer!

I loved seeing the quails and the cute new setup for them. I live in a small apartment and sadly no yard so I have to raise my quails inside, I would love to have a outdoor setup like you have for your quails, I like that you do more of a natural setup for the birds. I have 26 of them in large cages in my living room, all my quail are different colors. I raise them for their eggs and they are mostly pets. I never liked wire bottom cages that some people raise quail in, because I love to see them scratch around and take dust baths. I give my quail pine shavings and pull grass for them and give them plastic containers with dirt to bath in. I have lights hooked up to their cages part of the day. I like to give mealworms or black fly larva to them as treats, they also love salad mix and shredded carrots as a treat. They get excited over their treats and the male calls the hens to show them rhe food. I hatched all my quail in my incubators. I've had problems with them getting the poop balls on their toes too and everytime they get them I have to soak their feet.

Your quail are living a life of luxury it sounds like! I love the way males call over the hens when they get excited over food. 😃

Hope the gauge of the floor mesh is small enough to keep the rats outs. I lost my quail to rats who got through similar gauge mesh. Maybe try a double layer of the mesh offset to effectively reduce the gauge if kept together.

We use this chicken mesh on the bottom of the pheasant runs and no rats ... as yet. Horrible things are a menace!

I love the hobbit house! I'm surprised by how spacious it is; it's a good size. I gave all of my quail a foot bath recently. They do seem to enjoy it.

Hey Geoff. That is fab 5* accommodation for your quail, I'm sure they'll do well there are appreciate being moved to fresh grass as well. I'm still thinking of trying some quail- we are supposed to be cutting down on livestock, lol! Some cute badger footage, enjoyed that very much. Mixed weather here, still in a dry spell, though with overnight rain sometimes. Thanks for the vid. Best. Johnny.

Cheers for the video. I keep button quail and was having the same problem with poop toe (or whatever the technical term is). Just before this happened for the first time I had changed their regular gamebird feed from 18% protein to 24% protein. I kept them on the 24% for a few months without realising that this could be the issue. I changed their substrate material, kept them on sand instead of sawdust but they were still getting poop toes (all 6 of them). Once I switched them back to 18% feed. I have had no more issues since. I assume that this was the likely cause with mine in them having excess protein in their diet which had made their droppings more sticky.
