I was thinking about making some kind of clay housing to use waste heat to heat the air intake. I do believe there is a point of diminishing returns though. Also, there must be a reason why everyone isn't doing it. There must be a risk associated with it, probably explosive.

I am not entirely sure I understand what you mean, but my best guess would be it has to do something with the fact that cold air is denser than warm air. So pre-heating the intake air would possibly mess up your air fuel mix.

In my infinite wisdom, I failed to search the name before I made the account. To my dismay there are like four other channels with the same name. Its makes searching for my channel difficult.
