Honda does it with their Garmin GPS for 5 years now.

I recently updated my 2016 RDX to ST010.09.00 from ST007.06.00 (mine is an older 2016 so it does not have the X DB). It was a long update but not too bad. I had the engine on (car was outside) but you can use a trickle charger if you do not feel comfortable updating or are updating in an enclosed garage (never a good idea to run a car in an enclosed garage. It took over an hour but I did have to enter in some codes and the VIN for a Password that is unique to this update/car; each car needs one update. Plus there are multiple (as in 4) versions of this brown system so you will want to photograph the system device information with the Map DB, VIN and Device ID. I do not have a video on this but it is pretty straight forward. First it goes into a Utility update where it updates ERATO, Utility, SH-NK, and BUuComm (BU micro comm). 2nd screen shows a status for this part. Second, it reboots and you enter in a password plus it will ask for a radio code (top tip press the power button on the radio but if that does not work search for Acura radio code and enter in device ID as serial number). Third it does an update while out of utility mode then in the middle asks for disc 2. Finally, once disc 2 is done it reboots then does a background update. Background update can be done while you drive the car normally and you can turn off the engine/remove from trickle charger at this point. Background update takes about a few hours but if you drive the car normally it will gradually complete. Some versions will require 4 discs or 2 updates as some old versions like ST001.00.02 or ST002.01.01 need to be updated to ST009.08.00 then update to ST010.09.00. This is the reason why certain DB's of this system are being discontinued as Here probably has a limited supply of ST009.08.00 discs for certain cars. Then again some 2015 MDX and TLX had the 002.01.01 DB and got updated to ST003.02.00 as a part of a customer care program due to certain bugs and software improvements.

Great video; thank you for making and sharing! I'm curious, though confident the answer is no; Do you know if any software updates update the Bluetooth UI? It blows my mind this car doesn't display any album art when using Bluetooth. I know that's not a huge deal, but it's a nice feature. Does that exist? A software update that enhances the UI?

Great video! Thanks for posting it!! I was wondering, do you have to leave the car running for 2+ hours during the update? For my daughters Sophomore year of college, now that she's allowed to have a car at school, I just bought and will be surprising her with a fully loaded -(For a FWD), 2014 Acura TL 3.5 with the Technology pkg, & the 5 spoke 18" wheels... This TL only has 35k miles on it from the original owner -(My buddies 79 year old father) who kept it garaged every night! He gave me both keys & the original window sticker. The car is accident free, and it's in showroom condition in and out, and he kept all the receipts from every oil change, maintenance, and anything else done to the car! Before he was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, he just had a full 36k mile service done at the dealer, along with a synthetic oil change, plus it's second set of new tires which still had thousands of miles of tread left on the originals he tells me, and he had the new tires balanced, along with a 4-Wheel alignment. The only thing he hasn't done is ever update the navigation system since he drove it so little. Sorry for the long comment, but I will update this TL to the latest navigation update available before I surprise my daughter with her beautiful TL. I will subscribe after this comment. No need to leave car on while updating all 2 hours. It will resume where it stopped on the update. It needs 2 hours for completion though. Congrats on the new ride.

I have a question . my navigation screen of my acura 2010 tl turns on and the reverse camera is also turned off. Do you know what it can be? when the car is stopped it turns on and I can check maps but when the road turns off and turns on? Might you help me.

Is this the 140.00 map upgrade you purchase from Acura. My RDX maps were not current when I purchased the car 4 months ago, but I'm not paying that amount for a few changes. What else did the upgrade give you?

Probably want to contact Acura/Honda. I'm not familiar with that product in that country.

I HAVE A 2010 TL AND I TRIED TO THE UPGRADE BUT, I HAVE BIG PROBLEM I HAVE BROUGHT THE UPGRADE DVDs WENT THROUGH THE WHOLE UPGRADE ON THE FIRST DVD THAN WHEN IT WAS TIME FOR THE DISC #2 IT SAID TO PUT THE FIRST ON BACK AGAIN. AFTER DOING SO IN STUCK WITH "THE SYSTEM WAS UNABLE TO UPDATE CORRECTLY. PLEASE VISIT YOUR DEALER WHEN POSSIBLE TO HAVE YOUR SYSTEM UPDATE COMPLETE. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO DEALER AND THEY TOOK THE WHILE CONCEAL OUT FOR THREE WEEKS BUT SAYING NOTHING WRONG WITH HARD DRIVE. BUT, I'M STILL STUCK WITH THE SAME MASSAGE AND NOTHING WORKS. PLEASE ANY SUGGESTION?? EVERYTHING WAS WORKING PERFECTLY BEFORE. PLEASE HELP.

There must be a way to wipe out the install and reinstall again. I have not done that year and model though.

For the Red discs 2021 will be the last available update for that system, while the 2023 update will be the last one for those who use the Purple discs as well as Alpine v3.0 (IT0xx.xx.xx). Twin screen units aka brown disc (Alpine v3.2) that have ST001.00.02 or ST002.02.02, this will be their last chance to purchase an update for those databases as Here is planning to discontinue updates for those db's.

Hi, does this work on the ILX premium 2017? When I bought it, they told to download an Acura Navi app (which is awful, never worked) so I stopped using it. And now the app is not even supported at all. So would this be equivalent to it??

What’s the error message? Acura dealers can tell which disc to buy.

Can you use the CD infinite number of times or do you have to buy a new one to update each time

This TL has a map dvd inside for the nav. When you purchase the maps for that year, you can use it as much as you want without buying a new one. If you wanted the 2021 maps updates, you 'll need to buy a new one and replace the old DVD with a new one. No subscription needed. Just the cost of the DVD is what you'll pay.

Yes, you can turn car off and when you restart the car, the upgrade will continue where it left off.

Yes, I would pay $150 again but the upgrade could be better IMO. I prefer the big screen compared to the phone and using up my data plan.

07 MDX is DVD so no device ID as they did not go to Hard Drive until 2010. DVD system just insert the DVD and it will update.

If you want, you can reset to default on the settings. I don't recall anything for old users.

So 2 questions when do i know to put in the second cd or will it tell me, and the maps is it America only or Canada as well cause i live in Canada?

If you upgrade your navigation it will coverage USA Canada Mexico and Puerto Rico

yes to removed DVD. It's has a S/N so I guess it won't work if you share. I recommend getting your own. They usually have sales so it's affordable also.

@@michaelhorgan9525 so if the Navigation has been upgraded before and needs another upgrade and you purchase a new CD how is that going to work with your Navigation? I guess since I NM is new it will program itself to your unit and then it would be useless to any other vehicle?

There is a menu with your device ID, VIN and database. When you go on the site you write down from that menu and give it to them, and then they ship you an update with a passcode.

If your car has the DVD system you can simply update it by replacing the disc. DVD system has the older silver and gray graphics with the lower resolution graphics.

Will this work with a screen that says check disc just curious ?

When you buy the CD, it comes with a key to enter to activate. Without the key, the program will not work. Another way is to talk to car dealer to help.

You cannot use an eBay disc for those vehicles due to that system requiring a Password that is linked to a device ID and vin number. You need your current Map DB installed in the car, VIN and Device ID in order to purchase an update. Then you get a code from Here which lets you update the system. If you don't have that code, then you cannot update and could cause the system not to work.

Hi thx for the video. I just bought the set of the navigation update for 2013 MDX. and it comes with HDD in cd1 and navigation on cd2. I did the first one and it says in the booklet that will take up to 5 hours to complete before doing the cd #2. Anyone had this issue as well?

@@ezrak4979 The actual map update. The few hours is just so it can do a simple background update. When you put in the first disc it updates the software while the 2nd disc includes the map. Once the 2nd disc is done, then you can eject it and use the system as normal.

It looks like a waste of money as you have your smartphone in a pocket ;) On my 2011 TSX SW Voice apps won't work. Is this upgrade resolves any firmware updates? Bluetooth

The voice apps is limited to a few phrases. I like the nice big screen on the Navi but one can live with the mobile phone then use that.

I do like the nav screen especially when I am in downtown and trying to navigate between one-way streets it is helpful in familiar areas as a reference point. But to spend time typing an address is a nightmare. Is there any firmware update to TSX 2011-2014? I'll love to use my voice apps like WhatsApp or Hangouts.

That maybe the key to unlock the version on the DVD. It should come from the DVD vendor also.

Nope. It only updates the streets and routes. I personally update every 2-3 years but not every year. Not all streets change that often.

You can only use the HDD discs only once as they are tied to your VIN number and, you have to enter in a few things like a Device ID, VIN, and Map DB (database) version.

so you have to leave your car on for 2 hours
