    Fun fact! The recall was announced before the actual issue was! I received an email from Carfax regarding the recall. I had the recall performed on 12/12. I drove it from Northern Utah to Boise Idaho. I had the cruise set at 85, pretty much the entire way. I didn't see any difference in fuel economy. I also didn't notice any difference in power. However, I am smelling DEF a lot more now, which leads me to believe, the system will be using more DEF going forward.

    Yeah this is getting pretty close to the last straw for me. Thankfully haven’t touched my 2019 yet so it’ll take the recall just fine. But I’m looking for a first gen to restore so I can pollute 1000x the NOX and particulates (or whatever their crazy numbers are) legally until they take diesel away. Plus better mileage.

    First, the dealership doesn’t have to open the hood to know your truck has been emissions deleated. They’ll know the minute the plug in to the port since anyone that has deleated the emissions equipment also has to have a programmer to get the truck to ignore all the codes that would otherwise show up. Secondly, I’m pretty sure no dealership in the country is going to agree to overlook a deleated truck, not after watching the EPA ding Cummins for 1.7B! Third, as I understand it, the so-called “defeat device” we keep hearing about is not a physical device, rather a programming in the software that recognizes when emissions testing equipment is connected and adjusts the emissions programming to a tighter standard to pass the testing. With all the horror stories going around about legal action taken against delete shops and software programmers, and now going after individuals, I’m glad I haven’t messed with my 19 Ram. The gestapo is coming for all of us!

    Your comment towards the end hit the nail on the head. Government push these complicated diesel emissions on the public that effects reliability and longevity. Increases costs and just adds more components to upkeep and eventually replace. All while exempting their vehicles from it. That speaks volumes. I'm guessing any EV mandates that make it to fruition, will be the same way.

    My buddy owns a diesel repair shop. He said what he understands from the recall is this isn’t a state by state issue, it’s EPA and Federal matter. That means the federal government will tell all DMV’s to withhold your registration if this doesn’t show in the computer system at the dealership as being fixed. Even if it’s a state that doesn’t require smog/emissions checks the dmv will still hold registrations. I do know several people this has already happened to in Georgia and California. This is what I was told, don’t take it as the absolute truth. If you hear of anything different I would love to know. This affects me as well. I was also told they would give one year for this recall just because of the size of it.

He told he bought 2 identical F350s that year. The one in the street I was admiring and another one that got 10 more mpg.😮 Long story short the trucks had to go in for a recall a few months after he bought them. While he was there at t he dealer he mentioned the one trucks outstanding mileage. He told when he went back to the dealer to pick the trucks up they would only give home the one that got the normal mileage not the other one. Told him they had to take the truck back as it was unlawfully sold in the U.S. and original destination was Mexico 😮.

    I own a 2019 Ram 2500 Cummins. I had the VB6 recall done in 2020. I think all trucks made after 2019 already come stock with the emissions standards of the VB6 recall, which is why the 2019 is the only year that needs it. My truck has always driven and towed fine since the recall. It does drink DEF compared to my 2017 Ford Powerstroke work truck, though. My Ford is in regen a lot more though. Also, I try to drive with my exhaust break on at all times. I don’t go into regen nearly as much since I started doing that. I am curious to see if their is another recall in the works. Other folks seem to think that the other recall is just a recalibration so we can’t tamper with the emissions so easily.

    I've seen where this recall goes back to 2013 RAM trucks with the Cummins. Rumors say this is an attempt to see how many trucks have been deleted, which is a big no-no per the EPA. Apparently, this recall reset causes the truck to use more DEF, but mileage & performance are marginally affected, if at all. I have yet to take my 2017 RAM 3500 with HO Cummins & Aisin in for recall service, but my tags are due in June, so I will have to do it soon. Still, a $1.7B fine is nothing to sneeze at, so it makes me wonder what is up.

    Buy back should be an option. Or a refund of the Cummins upgrade charged for these vehicles. We have a VW that went through the scandal and did the "fix" because we loved the car (manual TDI). We did notice performance issues, especially in the acceleration after the software update. However, the largest issue I see and have seen with these types of software fixes is that the emissions system was not originally engineered to run this way. With the VW, we quickly had egr and dpf issues, had to replace both, dpf multiple tines. Thankfully this was covered in the extended warranty provided during the "fix". Now we are having to look at other, more permanent options for that vehicle and its emission system. With the nitrogens being the issue with these engines, it would make sense they do adjustments primarily to the SCR system, resulting in higher DEF consumption. These DPFs already are on the struggle bus, what additional clogging and crystalizing issues are we to expect now? How much more back pressure is created from flow through the scr system? Thank God with my VW we don't tow anything, but for my HD Ram, we might have to find other options if it's just a "software fix".

    BTW - Just because you have the recall done does NOT mean the full change is active immediately. The system will learn the vehicles sensor range, performance, trans performance, etc for months then slowly activate changes and continue to learn vehicle. IMO you cannot just be like ‘OH - I had it done and felt no real performance change’

Going to be a fire sale if they enforce for deleted trucks. -No cash settlement for owners. -Cummins/Stelantis have to achieve 85% participation in recall for 13-19 year under 3 years or face additional fine which will likely be upped to the full 37k+5k per vehicle. Possibly hold out for a better deal? -Post recall warranty is for emissions related only.

    Govt so concerned about diesel emissions how about all the Jet aircraft burning thousand of times if not more gallons of polluting fuel, or all the ships in ports around this country sitting there burning diesel or heavy bunker oil? Just the cruise industry pollutes more than all our trucks together. Both of these examples involve operations in high population areas especially airports, I'm surprised California has not banned Jets in their state, Look at LAX, how much pollution falls on it residents in that area alone? far more than 960,000 trucks spread out across America.

If you have a 300 mile range it will only tow if your luck for 150 miles so then you have to charge for an hour every 150 or 100 miles. Ive had 2 ev's for work cars and they work great for a work car but for long distance thats another story, they dont work for long distance and then theres the thing where the batteries lose half the range in the winter so ev's are not ready for the task.

  • @Sylvan_dB

    @Sylvan_dB

    5 ай бұрын

    It's trade offs. More fuel changes the type of emissions (more fuel, cooler burn, less NOX). More effective use of particulate filter and catalyst requires more fuel. Regen requires more fuel. Even on gas engines this has been the trade off since 1970. Modern gas engines dump extra fuel (run rich) to help the catalytic converter gets up to operating temperature more quickly during the first while after startup. With GDI engines they could run a lot leaner during normal operation, but that would increase NOX so they are programmed to burn more fuel to minimize NOX. EGR is another way of reducing emissions at the cost of more fuel usage per horsepower.

There are no emissions inspections here, and there won't be in the foreseeable future. Trust me on this. This sounds like a blue state problem where inspections are the norm and this will be nothing new for them. The thing that I do worry about is traveling through said states with my RV in tow and having some ramification there. So far in the RV community I have heard of nobody with a deleted truck being turned away at the California border for instance.
