Hey Mickey, you're so fine, you blow my mind! Hey Mickey!!! Keep up the good work baby boy!!! and thank you Big Cats for making my heart smile. I love all cats, big or small. I'm not one of those idiots who think they can turn a big cat into a pet. They recognize you, love you even, but turn your back and you can become prey very quickly. You guys are awesome!!

yeah, many of BCR's residents can be downright goofy at times (zabu rolling around on her back is the immediate example that comes to mind), but i am not ignorant enough to think that ANY of them should be pets. (i have rescue cats. even a regular-sized cat that doesn't like you or that you pushed too far even if they DO like you most of the time can do some fairly impressive damage.)

Mickey and the other cats rescued from horrid owners should have their stories filmed for a documentary and aired repeatedly on cable stations like the Animal Planet, Discovery etc.Not enough people are aware of hellish backyard zoos or cruel private breeders. It's a nice dream that a serious film would be made using BCR as the centerpiece as they are second to none in caring for these mistreated animals. They have or had a number of cats who went through such evil conditions that viewers would have to understand there must be more laws and better enforcement of them to stop the people who willingly do wicked things to helpless animals. I sincerely hope on day someone will film Mickey's story. He'd be a perfect poster cat for change although, sadly, there are other equally worthy. God bless BCR and the medical staff who do all they can for him and the others.

But if they're all shut down, we'll have to kill all the animals and that's even worse! /s The /s means sarcasm, just to be clear. That's the argument people keep throwing _against_ better regulations. Because, clearly, the only options are backyard breeding or mass murder. There couldn't _possibly_ be any alternatives

Sad but true. I understand lawmakers, especially the conscientious ones, have a lot to handle and breeding/ownership of exotic animals is not so common that's it gets much attention. When it does you have to wonder who do they consult for a solution? Breeders? That bunch is riff with liars who will protect their business. They probably cite, not ideal, but still somewhat responsible and humane owners as examples of seemingly good conditions. No doubt the picture painted is the "bad" breeders and owners are so few that deep investigation is not needed. Surely the plight of big cats in the wild is thrown in making the currant breeding/owner practices by all and sundry seem needed or the animals will become extinct. They're armed with damn clever arguments to cover the reality of too many breeders and homemade zoo owners. Put before people who have dozens of pressing issues to deal with it and not wanting to spend precious time and tax money on what must seem like a very rare concern the slime brigade wins the day. No alternatives are sought leaving cats like Mickey to live hellish lives and inbreeding causing severe health or behavioral issues. More light shed on the problems would help. Just knowing the details of one cat like Mickey would be a shocking eye-opener for many. The stories need to told to wide audiences because it's the public that will eventually be reason for change. And the public could support the sanctuaries like BCR needed to house existing cats taken from unlawful conditions as well help fund responsible breeding programs to protect any near extinct cats. The same people who cared about Cecil would surely jump to help if they knew about all the Mickeys out there, still alive and in great need.

Oh, jeez, I realized once the "before" footage stopped playing that I was clutching at my heart with my hand... it's hard to watch any living thing go through that kind of pain and trauma, but watching an animal usually known for its smooth movement and power makes it even harder to watch.

what caused this i thought i heard the word 'disease' . was the damage done because of confinement? it breaks my heart to see Mickey in any discomfort but i know you will do the best for Mickey, whatever that ends up. i learned my lesson well about being selfish when i tried to save my Snowball and thankfully finally my vet chewed me out about the difference in wanting to save one's loved one and stopping her pain instead. thank you for all of the kindness you give

  • @bigcatrescue

Linda T What caused this was not a disease , but he was using disease as a verb to describe the deteriorated condition of Mickey's knees. The facility Mickey was rescued from used to feed him on a high platform. He was forced to jump up onto it and then jump back down onto the concrete floor of a cage he had. This created a lot of wear and tear of his knee. When he got bad, they still fed him on the platform and gave him zero medical attention. This facility also had a tiger with the issue.

Mickey the miracle cougar. With a pet cat or dog they'd probably just remove the legs and add wheels but of course people have to be in charge of putting them on and taking them off and that's not possible with a large cat. I can't imagine how painful that must have been to have your bones rubbing to that extent, it's just crazy. He's looking much better now and hopefully once he strengthens those muscles he can feel a little normality. great job

Who keeps giving these videos a thumbs down!?! Beautiful story of a magnificent creature. When I first saw him try to walk, and then saw the x-rays - I thought "Oh no!.Not amputation!". To say the least, I was very relieved to see the results! God bless BCR for the work they do!

The thumbs down come from everyone who can see this poor animal is still in pain, cant walk normally and should have been euthanised. So so sad. Wonderful people rescued him... But they should have made the tough decicion to euthanise him. How anyone can say he looks happy and great now i just cant imagine!? No significant improvement from when they got him. Poor poor thing. Animals dont show pain the way humans do. They suffer in silence. The fact that he struggles to move means he is crippled with pain, literally. His life of pain continues 😢

Listen Up I wondered too. But Mickey hasn't given up. He gets up and walks for the treats, even tho it is very difficult. If he didn't want to live he would stay down and not work so hard for the food. He definitely has a strong will to live.

I've had knee surgery and had 2 months lost to me because of the level of pain medication I took. The will to live is so strong in these creatures, God bless you all for giving him the chance and working so hard to give him quality of life.

my trick kneecap isn't fixable, and my mom's knee replacement was bad enough that even a ridiculously high pain tolerance meant she had problems for several months (and now has a TSA card because titanium). mickey was "GO BB!!!!" for me too. (i'm "go bb!" for basically all of BCR's cats, but that portion of his backstory resonated with me.)

Oh lord, at the beginning of this video I had to look away. I still have tears in my eyes because of the pain and suffering this poor creature had to go through. It is truly sad how disgusting human beings can be, and this just.....it's so heart breaking to watch. I'm very happy that he's doing better though, and I hope he is happy and healthy for the rest of his days.

Finally, I had wondered how Mickey was doing. I was worried that he would give up, but he has the will and determination to keep going. I think that a movie should be made in his honor (and to make people more aware of how horribly some big cats are being treated)

Thank you for the update. Mickey is sure a true fighter. It always painful to watch how he walked before the surgeries. I know his legs can never be as perfect as before but at least you make his life much comfortable. Thank you so much for your love and care for him. being half planet away from Florida, all I can do is follow your FB page, like all the pictures post and watch the videos again and again. Btw, I love your videos so much :)
