Update 2001 Chrysler Town & Country Power Liftgate finally fixed

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

So at long last we finally fixed the power hatch the motor wasn't bad originally the latch that came on the van was messed up so we replaced it with a latch off of another van but little did we know that the new latch couldn't send the signal to engage the motor so we then bought another latch and power motor to put in and replaced the latch first and it worked beautifully so if your hatch goes out try replacing the latch first of that doesn't fix it then replace the motor the latch has to come off of a van with the power hatch

For those who has problems with lift gate not opening and this didn't work. Remove the assembly that's above the the license plate. There is what is called a heat sensor that is located to the left of the door open switch. These go bad. When they start to go bad the lift gate will open sometimes. Eventually they finally stop working. Since I googled every thing I could and found nothing. I bit the bullet and took it to the dealership. Explained what I know to give them a clue...... They had one thing in mind. Hook up the computer for $75. This was to tell me I needed a $55 part. Took them 1hr and 10 minutes. Charged me for 1 and a half hours $90. Now I hope this will save the next person the rip off from the dealership..... Note I replaced the windshield wiper motor since then and it took me about 45 minutes to put in a used $35 motor.

Terry Slater thanks for the add on ours was latch was grinding and wouldn't release and the motor wasn't engaging we then put a latch off of a base van and it released fine but the power hatch still wouldn't work so we got a latch off of a van with a power hatch and put it in and it worked.

Thank you Terry Slater for your tip. The heat sensor, which is called the chime/thermistor, was what I needed to replace to fix my malfunctioning power liftgate. The part is hardwired and would need to be spliced if I were to replace that part. It's also discontinued, but can be purchased new through a vintage parts seller. I was able to remove the wiring assembly from a junkyard for $15, which fixed my problem. Thanks again for the tip.

My 2006 Chrysler T&C tailgate would lift then shut without latching in the open position. When I opened it manually I noticed the gate drooped about 4 inches and I realized the struts were weak. I replaced them in 15 minutes and PROBLEM SOLVED!!

If the lift gate is reversing at the bottom, the problem with GMA there is a little rubber BSR Ring. Just remove it. You can see it when trim panel is removed. I have made this fix to all service centers and advised not to replace the gear motor assembly, just to remove or replace the ring.

We recently replaced the door latch on the right power sliding door because it wouldn’t come unlatched once it was opened. The new one the door lock wouldn’t work so we replaced the locking mechanism

No problem. All the parts came from the self service salvage yard and couldn't have cost more that $40-$60 for the latch and the motor

Bennie Chadwick with them out of the van Side by side I don't think you can maybe one has more pins in the connector than the other. I made sure the donor van was equipped with the power hatch. I have a extra latch from another van with a power hatch and I have the other latch I'll have to look

Well my rear latch on my 2012 Dodge Durango tries to close 3 times and gives up. On the way home it poped up 2 times. This made for some interesting driving as the cars behind me didn't know how to handle the situation. Luckily I pulled over with the flashers on, pushed the open/close button on the overhead console and have it cycle another 3 times. When the latch broke or whatever it did the check engine light came on. Things like that seem to come in two's or three's. Yea, the low left rear tire light also started flashing telling me that it decided to show low :-(. The reason the check engine light came on was the computer(s) in all it's wisdom said the thermostat was not opening up like it should have. Lucky I had Mo-Par Max Care warranty. The dealer put in a new hatchback latch (450.00), new thermostat Cost ??. I don't know how much the labor for all this would have been without the Mo-Par warranty. I paid them $ 100.00 and was back on the road in a day or so. The warranty does cover parts, labor and rental car. These vehicles these days are nothing but computers on wheels. The Mo-Par Max Care warranty comes in 3 flavors: 1. No Deductible (higher initial cost) 2. $ 100.00 deductible (what I have) 3. $ 200.00 deductable If you are going to keep your vehicle over 5 years it's worth the cost.

+D Hansel thank goodness you had that warranty that’s a fairly new vehicle. This is my dads van and it now has 252,000 miles plus hatch and everything still works for the most part the only thing wrong right now is the passenger side power sliding door will open using the button but when you press the button to close it it won’t come unlatched if you pull the handle and press the button it will close on its own just fine. Personally I’m a huge Saturn fan so for me 2010 would be the newest(for me) I think it’s better to buy a used decent cheap car and fix issues your self. The warranty that a dealership chain puts on all there used cars is 12months 12,000 miles and they want $500 for the deductible. It all depends on how much you love your vehicle and what it means to you as to if it’s worth it or not. So if your car is just an appliance to you than maybe now but if your like me and love your car then yeah it would be.

The Mo-Par warranty is good for 1,000,000 miles (one million). If you sell the vehicle the warranty is transferable.

That warranty covers the vehicle up to 1,000,000 miles and is transferable to the next owner. The dealership has been good to my family.

CamilaK92 not sure about the hatch but our passenger side power sliding door will open fine but if you tell it to close with the remote or button it clicks and doesn’t close we think it’s something in the latch because if you press the button and pull the handle the power door closes but we aren’t sure. As far as the power doors and hatch go on the 01-02 has several issues from what I have been told. Wonder if it’s something with the motor itself. Sorry I couldn’t be much help. Wonder if there is a module that’s controls the motors and such.
