@@ronniepatterson2827 I mean thats what a lot of ppl took from it so I can’t exactly fault you for saying that, but I really did appreciate the slow buildup after the fact, given the payoff. I still prefer this portrayal of Godzilla over the other 2 films given how much attention was given to make the shear scale of Godzilla apparent. Funnily enough my main criticism of the first, that being the shear lack of Godzilla (6 minutes is not enough regardless of build up!) was remedied in the later films but they sacrificed the things that made the first film strong, scale and buildup. Certainly my experience may be different from others as I went out of my way to see the first and second in Imax, which really is a step above the theatre experience for movies like this, but that is where I stand on this film.

The tsunami scene in Honolulu is, in my opinion, one of the greatest, most memorable scenes in the MonsterVerse and one of Godzilla's greatest entrances. I do agree that the payoff could have been better, though I find the final battle gratifying enough to forgive it. Godzilla is staggeringly massive, there's immense weight to his movements and attacks, and the build-up to his shining moments are spine chilling. I don't hate the way Godzilla is portrayed in the subsequent films but his lumbering, almost tired and aged appearance in G-14 remains one of my favorites.

This is the only Godzilla continuity where I unironically enjoyed every single entry. Monsterverse has one of the best Godzillas, _the_ best Ghidorah, the coolest Kong, one of the series' greatest human moments (Serizawa's sacrifice), the series' single best-choreographed battle (GvK's Hong Kong fight), and perhaps most importantly... none of its movies suck. Especially in this decade full of terrible franchise reboots, that's quite the achievement. While the Japanese entries of the past ten years have gone more experimental with mixed results, Monsterverse is a reminder why I loved Godzilla movies in the first place. KotM is literally everything I ever wanted from a Godzilla film, and all three other films have their strengths. I never thought I'd see the day where Godzilla, Kong, Mothra, Rodan, and Ghidorah got the big-screen, big-budget treatment (and on top of that, that I would _like_ it) but Monsterverse made that dream come true. What a time to be a fan.

@@DerpaTure9503 On the other hand, none of the anime trilogy was truly good, and by your same logic you'd think getting at least ONE right wouldn't be "that tough." Even if for the sake of fairness we only considered the first four movies of every continuity in the series, Monsterverse's first four still has the best overall showing in my opinion, with Heisei in second.

When people say KotM sucks, it blows my mind because in my head, I immediately compare it to every other movie with Ghidorah in it and KotM is immeasurably higher quality than any of those. Each of the Monsterverse movies, while not masterpieces, can proudly stand alongside the best of the other eras. The OG and maybe Shin are the only true masterpieces in this franchise

The Monsterverse was a very interesting chapter in the history of Godzilla (yes, and Kong). It made sure that Final Wars was not the last movie (and broke Kong out of his endless loop of remakes). It led to Toho getting back in the groove with Shin Godzilla. "Godzilla's Personality in the MonsterVerse": In Godzilla, Godzilla's behavior is that of a territorial animal, Ishiro Serizawa theorized that Godzilla is the driving force to restore balance to nature whenever that balance is disrupted, suggesting that he essentially considers the entire Earth to be his territory. However, unlike previous incarnations, Godzilla doesn't blatantly attack or plow through ships at sea simply because they're there, in fact, with larger ships like aircraft carriers, he simply dives under them, even when the military launched a combined forces assault to stop him, he didn't react or fight back, and simply continued to hunt the MUTOs, even when he was being flanked by four naval ships. As opposed to any sort of morality, it appears to be that he simply considers humans to be tiny and insignificant and does not care about their general well-being but at the same time does not consider them worth destroying even though they, without harming him at all, fire at him nonstop. Godzilla does not seem to destroy on purpose, even when he destroyed the Golden Gate Bridge, it did not appear to be intentional, but just him reacting from being hit in the gills by explosives. He displays little interest in humans and focuses his attention entirely on the MUTOs. His supposed disinterest in the well-being of humans may be caused by their repeated attempts to kill him, the same attempt that showcased their destructive capabilities. After defeating both MUTOs, he leaves humans alone without any more conflict. However, Godzilla does occasionally display signs of advanced thinking, as he is seen adapting his strategies to fight the MUTOs and even uses sleight-of-hand to trick the male MUTO into approaching his tail, which he uses to impale him on a fallen skyscraper. He appears to possess some degree of emotion as he briefly looks Ford Brody in the eye when he collapses to his level, which also could suggest that he has at least some degree of interest in humans. Godzilla was designed to have a personality that would evoke the "last samurai" archetype, an ancient warrior content with solitude and preferring not to be a part of the world but has to resurface when certain types of events force him to appear and set things right. Godzilla's most notable relationships with other Titans are with MUTOs, Mothra, Ghidorah, and Kong. With Mothra, they are true allies, more so than their past incarnations that were prone to be at odds with each other since their species have symbiotic relationships with one another. Mothra's undying loyalty towards Godzilla is best demonstrated when she assists him in their fight against Ghidorah and Rodan, using her webs to glue Ghidorah onto a skyscraper, and incapacitating Rodan after he fought her. Their ancient alliance had been defined in romantic terms, with Dr. Ilene Chen calling Mothra "Queen of the Monsters" and Chief Warrant Officer Jackson Barnes questioning if "they got a thing going on", though subsequently Dr. Sam Coleman explains it as a "symbiotic relationship". As she died, Godzilla roared in grief while he absorbed her life-force, allowing him to go thermonuclear and vaporized Ghidorah. Following the battle, Godzilla had not forgotten Mothra’s sacrifice, and her gift of life led him to find a new home. Godzilla perceived MUTOs as uneasy ally at best through Queen MUTO who submits to him as her alpha and both deadly pests and natural enemy at worst through the conflict with MUTO couple he killed at San Fransisco and MUTO Prime. Lastly, in the case of Ghidorah and Kong, the two are Godzilla's fierce rivals as shown in various cave paintings where he is depicted fighting alternatively with one of them for different reasons; whereas with the former, their feud could be best described as the battle between light and darkness owing to the extraterrestrial Titan's malicious nature and desire to lay waste upon Earth, Godzilla and Kong battled each other because of their species' long-standing rivalry, but the two nevertheless willing to put aside their difference in facing a common threat. After defeating Mechagodzilla together, the two make amends to each other and went on separate ways on better terms. When Godzilla becomes the alpha again, he does not attack the other Titans who followed Ghidorah and instead spares them when they swear their allegiance to him again. Following Ghidorah's death, Godzilla starts to care for the well-being of the human race, as evidenced by a clipping in the end credits mentioning that Godzilla is keeping the other Titans from attacking major human settlements. In Godzilla vs. Kong, Godzilla revealed to possess the capacity to become aggressive and violent towards humans and Titans alike if he is provoked, something Madison Russell acknowledged as it was not his nature to wreak havoc upon human settlements without cause or reason. He wreaked havoc upon Apex Cybernetics' facilities upon sensing that its human occupants desecrated the remains of his arch-nemesis Ghidorah with signals they released being dead giveaways, and that he tried to prevent them from destroying themselves along with the planet they live on with said remains. He does, however, not involve other Titans in the search and had them returned to dormancy as revealed in the prequel comic, Godzilla Dominion, so they won't inadvertently get into his way or worse, swayed by his revived nemesis once again and subsequently undo the very damage they mended together. His worst fear came true in the form of the destructive, out-of-control Mechagodzilla - influenced by Ghidorah's remains grafted into its systems - and would've continued what the extraterrestrial Titan started had he and Kong failed to stop it. His mission to eliminate the threat came into the conflict of Kong who - though having nothing to do with Ghidorah's resurgence - is an example of Godzilla's willingness to eliminate those who oppose him from his goal, in addition to their race's past conflicts. While he displayed brutal and prideful tendencies when fighting Kong at Hong Kong, as he gave of a particularly menacing grin followed by a grumble evocative of a chuckle of sorts when he singed Kong's back with his atomic breath, Godzilla's confrontation with Kong was partly due to frustration by his rival unknowingly deterring him from stopping Apex Cybernetics twice. However, this didn't stop him from sparing the ape-like Titan's life since the latter was not the threat he sought, and to a subtle degree, Kong's defiance in the face of defeat earning him the King of the Monsters' respect. This noble decision ultimately saved his life during a hopeless fight against Mechagodzilla, since it allows Kong to assist his likely ally against a common enemy.

Godzilla vs Kong was good because of the Mecha Godzilla and really cool visuals. Godzilla 2014 at last because the monsters were being cut off over and over until the end but it's a good movie. I was never really a kaiju fan till Godzilla 2014 and then I wanted to learn more about the kaiju, I know in the old movies they were cheesy and goofy, now there’s nothing wrong with big dumb fun, but I kinda wish the monsterverse kept the same tone in g14. I loved edwards take on Godzilla, a new type of Godzilla movie, it was dark and gritty and suspenseful and I loved it, it was new and unique and dare I saw brilliant. I honestly kinda liked the human characters, Brody was ok, but I felt for the guy, a soldier just doing his job and wanting to get back to his family, but has to defeat the mutos so his family can be safe. A lot of people complain about the amount of time Godzilla had in his movie and he’s supposed to be the main character but the way I see it, he’s the main threat to the enemies and something much bigger than humans, something much bigger than life, he’s bigger than all of us and is the only one who can take down the mutos, that’s why it’s named Godzilla, or at least that’s why I think it is. People complain about the mutos but honestly I think they’re beautiful creatures, yes I know I’m in the minority but it’s just my opinion. I loved how Gareth portrayed the Titans as actual animals, a great example is the bridge scene when the female muto heard the radio and mimicked the sound, it’s so simple yet so fascinating. Gareth also did a very good job on making the monsters feel big by taking the camera shots with the human perspective, it made the monsters feel like gods much bigger than us. In my opinion, I feel like since Godzilla 2014 was a new take in the franchise, it was meant for everyone to watch and enjoy, but a lot of people(mostly fans) didn’t like Gareth’s creativeness and art, so the fans got king of the monsters. I’m in the minority of this too but whenever a g fan says kotm was a love letter to the fans, it makes me think that everything in kotm and gvk was just fan service, movies just for the fans and not really for everyone, I feel like what Gareth Edwards did was try to make something new out of the franchise and what doughtery did with kotm was just a copy and paste of the old Godzilla movies just for the fans, it felt unoriginal and rushed. that’s just what I think, I really don’t mean to sound rude or disrespectful in anyway.

Why did the Monsterverse and the MCU work, and the DCEU not work? Because the Monsterverse and MCU started with individual movies before fully blending them - 5 movies for the MCU, and 3 for the Monsterverse. The DCEU started with Man of Steel, and went straight into BVS, forcing them to introduce far too many characters in one movie.

  • @MrAwsomeness360

To add to your comment, both the MCU and MonsterVerse are also very well aware that these are fantastical and absurd genres that can't be taken too seriously at the end of the day (men in colorful tights fighting crime and giant radioactive monsters), they know what they have and so they have total fun with them. The DCEU (or the "SnyderVerse") on the other hand, they don't look like anybody making them were having any fun, the immaturely edgy direction of Zack Snyder, making superheroes dark, gritty, colorless, and completely unheroic, doesn't help either, and neither is over relying on Batman for everything (confusing the character's gothic tone for dark and gritty). I mean, this isn't freakin' Homer's Odyssey or Shakespeare, these are people in multi color spandex and outside undies fighting petty crooks and mad scientists, you can't take that shit too seriously no matter how you try to slice it. If it were up to me, I'd restart the whole thing and lighten the fuck up, I'd do Superman more hopeful and optimistic like in the first two Richard Donner movies, and Batman like in the '89 movie - gothic in tone, but still fun and colorful.

I think the MonsterVerse stood out from the other cinematic universes because it was doing it's own thing and not trying copy other universes (humanity co-existing with giant monsters, government coverups, and ties to real world mythology), so it stood out from the competition. It also took time to set up the premise of it's world with 2 movies, G 2014 and Skull Island taking it's time to establish the universe, building up to bigger events. And while KOTM and GvK were faster paced and more "insane", they still took the time to piece the world together while potentially setting up a larger story (like the ancient Titan war or ancient civilizations co-existing with the monsters). The DCEU kind of suffers from trying to compete with Marvel, rushing out movies in an attempt to catch up with the MCU, trying to establish their big events too quickly (Death of Superman, the creation of the Justice League, and Superman's revival, to name a few). It didn't really help that, at the beginning, DC was trying too hard too be the "Anti-Marvel". From what I've seen, the DCEU tends to do better when it's not trying to take itself so seriously and instead has fun with the premise. The "Dark Universe" (if you can call it a universe) completely suffered from trying to copy the MonsterVerse, the MCU, and the DCEU all at once. I tried to set up 10 different storylines at once which distracted from the main story. It also didn't help that it immediately jumped into an insane plot, instead of trying to set up it's world and taking things slowly.

He roars at Kong, who shows that he is going to die standing, and die he certainly will. But Godzilla simply nods and goes back into the sea. The side quest it's show he had the whole movie is done, and now there is no reason for him to be here; Kong is no threat right now.

GvK is literally everything I've ever wanted in a godzilla movie. Its delightfully absurd, shitton of monsters, humans take the back seat (the movie would have been much more enjoyable if they took out the subplot with maddison and replaced it by following the apex), and most importantly: the monsters are the defacto main characters. We all know deep down that the monsters are the main characters but the movies dont really treat them as such. But like, kong has a character arc. The big monkey has a character arc AND manages to stay in the realm of being definitely an animal. Godzilla is a delightful asshole through the whole movie and I will never get over seeing him bite kongs ankles like a crocodile it was AWESOME. In my humble opinion, Kong Skull Island is the best and most balanced film in the Monsterverse. It had the best human ensemble cast in terms of entertainment, archetypes, and motivations. The monster scenes, especially Kong, were balanced well anong human scenes, and the editing and cinematography are beautiful. In addition, it took the classic Kong character and island setting, and made it stand on its own without being a remake of the 1933 classic. It succeeded in being a fun and terrifying monster romp without trying to be more than it already is.

So far my personal rankings of each monsterverse entry including the comics as well. Now I wanna make it clear I'm ranking them based off how much I'm entertained by them not by quality or how well made they are. Some movies are more well made than others but that doesn't always guarantee more entertainment from them. 1. Godzilla vs kong pros/cons Pros: kong is given a high level of respect in this movie being the underdog and the main focus on the story itself. This movie shows a kaiju can indeed be a main lead if done right and kong shows that well. Godzilla is the antagonistic anti hero which is a nice change of pace for his character having him be more aggressive which makes him intimidating. The other monsters like the warbats or the hellhawks were interesting to see and mechagodzilla wrecks both godzilla and kong without mercy nearly killing both showing how powerful he is. As for the humans they don't feel as underdeveloped as they did in kotm and are more likeable especially jia who is the best human in the movie. The cgi is the best in the monsterverse as the lore is expanded more with the hollow earth. The lighting is perfect with most fights taking place during the day and hong kong being lit in neon lights. Cons: the film's plot has heavy plot holes from so much changing in the production process. The humans despite being fine still are a bit underdeveloped in some places while ren serizawa walter Simmons and mark are completely wasted characters. The other creatures in the hollow earth don't get alot of screentime too. Same goes to mechagodzilla too. 2. Godzilla dominion: pros and cons Pros: the comic shows more of godzilla's personality and intelligence which i always wanted to see more of which is why this is my favorite comic thus far. The art is slightly better than it was in aftershock. Godzilla doesn't kill any titans choosing to spare them instead and finds a new lair to rest too. It has zero human characters and teases gvk at the end Cons: my only real issue is the fact that godzilla's fight with amhuluk is a bit too short the shortest of the entire comic actually. 3. Godzilla king of the monsters: pros and cons Pros: the movie is obviously a movie made by fans for fans but even non fans can still find it enjoying they just won't catch any of the fan service. The movie focuses more on the monsters which does result in more action more personality from the monsters as well. Rodan is a rogue who only follows the winning team for his own benefits. Ghidorah is a sadistic false king who wants nothing but to see the world burn. Mothra is a kind warm-hearted goddess who defends her king with her own life and godzilla earns the title he had for 65 years as of 2019. The movie adds more lore to the monsterverse and feels more traditional to a classic film by introducing advanced technology which is commonly found in most films. The musical score is the best in the monsterverse modernizing godzilla's and mothra's themes. Serizawa shows more emotion in this film than he did in g14 even willing to sacrifice himself possibly being the best human thus far in the movie. Additional characters like Mark Madison and chen i didn't mind all that much. Cons: the movie's color grading is fine in some scenes but unnecessary in every scene with the monsters. While I find the cgi to be okay it's not as detailed as the previous films. The plot and the human are very underdeveloped due to the plot being so heavily focused on the monsters and some of the fan service hurts the plot. 4. Godzilla aftershock: pros and cons Pros: last time godzilla still had the g14 design and goes out with a bang literally. He gets more damaged physically in this comic than he did in any previous or later godzilla entry having his dorsal plates being shattered into pieces. He kills muto prime with a nuclear pulse teasing a new power for kotm and kills her with his foot. Muto prime is a powerhouse almost winning twice in the comic and proving to be one of the most powerful monsters in the monsterverse. Alan is teased throughout the comic which is good foreshadowing for kotm. As for Emma who is the main focus she is more likeable in aftershock than she is in kotm being more of a normal person trying to stop muto prime. The comic expands more lore on the muto's origins as well and art is far superior to awakening. Cons: so far despite Alan appearing in the comic was for the purpose of teasing him i wish I saw him more though same goes for serizawa and Vivian. 5. Kong skull island: pros and cons Pros: just like g14 ksi is a perfect return to the king of skull island. Kong despite being a kid still has a amazing design personality and protrayal a perfect modernized version of a classic icon. He shows the right amount of emotion you would expect from him. The humans are the best in the monsterverse thus far being the most likeable most relatable and part of that reason is probably due to them being part of a war that actually happened in real life. The pacing is perfect balancing out both the humans and monsters scenes perfectly. Just like g14 the cgi is amazing and the movie itself is the first step to expanding the monsterverse. Cons: my only issue is the 1st act doesn't have alot of build up to the arrival to skull island 6. Kingdom kong: pros and cons Pros: once again the art is outstanding. The main character Audrey i found to be a likeable character constantly being reminded of what happened to her closest friend who thank God was not dead after all by the end of the story. She blames herself for what happened in her past and camazotz I guess you could say played a part in that traumatic experience. As for camazotz he is a very interesting villain for kong to fight especially when both are mammalian titans. As for kong himself he is fully grown and does struggle against camazotz and of course actually appears quite alot throughout the comics defeating camazotz but not killing him. On top of that the end teases gvk. Cons: my only real issue being the fact that camazotz didn't seem to be all that powerful to kong and the most he did was pick kong up twice before dropping him twice. After that he quickly gets demolished by kong. 7. Godzilla (2014): pros and cons Pros: unlike the previous first attempt at a American godzilla movie g14 gets godzilla right in every aspect of his character bringing the king back for his 60th anniversary in the best way possible skyrocketing his popularity through the roof worldwide. The mutos did also serve to be pretty interesting adversaries for godzilla to fight since they weren't evil they were just trying to survive. The performances of Joe serizawa and Vivian did make the human story interesting to a extent especially Joe who was hands down the best human in the movie. The grounded realism approach isn't done much in the franchise and it's good to see a American film take a step in that direction. As a bonus cgi is amazingly perfect. Cons: the movie makes the biggest mistake of killing Joe off too early and thus making the human story a bore to sit through. Despite serizawa and Vivian being interesting characters they don't bring anything emotional to the story. I get the movie is supposed to be a slow burner but it teases the monsters too much for its own good at times and whenever it does show the monsters the movie focuses more on the mutos treating godzilla almost like a side character in his own movie. The pacing is good for the first act but gets very slow in the 2nd act. 8. Godzilla awakening: pros and cons Pros: so far the only monsterverse comic to show a little bit of prehistoric earth and godzilla's origins to a extent. The shinomura is a interesting and underrated kaiju for its capabilities and being the only monster godzilla couldn't kill. Serizawa's father being the only character we follow is interesting since he is like his son in every fashion and is far from boring in the slightest trying his hardest to prove godzilla's existence. Cons: the first issue being the art which isn't bad but it's inconsistent in multiple places. The story doesn't show godzilla's fights with the shinomura much with none of those fights being shown to have a clear winner. On top of that are the continuity errors which puts the state of the comic up for interpretation if you find it cannon or not. 9. Birth of kong: pros and cons Pros: Love the art style of this comic zid is hands down the best artist of the monsterverse. I love the world building on kong as a character and skull island's past. The human characters aaron and riccio were the only decent characters thus far. Cons: my biggest issue being the fact that it teases kong too much it does it more than g14 teases godzilla. While the battle between kong and the mother long legs is entertaining it's a big of a downgrade from kong fighting the skull devil. As for the human characters i feel like most of them except aaron and riccio are underdeveloped and get killed too early and quickly.

I love Godzilla: King of the Monsters so much. The score, the visuals, the cast. I'm glad that as the Monsterverse continues it will only reflect more attention back onto KOTM. The only problem is that, like Kong: Skull Island, there are just a few too many characters. It feels like several of the minor characters could have been folded together.

what ppl never seem to acknowledge with that film and the others after is the budget of the movie... 2014 cost close to 200 mil to make and all you got was about 12 mins of legit cgi.. you need to spend a sec to think about that, 300 mil and 12 MAYBE 13 mins of movie magic.. That movie if you notice compared to the others, excluding Kong SI, is the MOST impressive looking of all the films so think about it like this... Budget/Script/Plot is why that movie is the way it is.. Its the first of its kind((bcuz Zilla 98 doesn't count))to focus on the human aspect and took the Cloverfield approach to how it was done.. I appreciate it for what it is since I understand this..

I still like Skull Island best. 2 is G v K. 3 is 2014 and 4 is KOTM. I like 2014 a lot more as the years go by. Human characters and story are more important to the success and acclaim of these movies than most think. Skull Island does that with Reilly and Jackson being great characters leading the way and fully developed. This is the only MV movie that's featured a cast of movie stars instead of TV actors. You could re-edit G v K and completely cut characters from the movie and no one would notice. lots of wasted paychecks. Four great monster movies. Still waiting for a great movie with monsters in it. Another great video from you.

To me 2014 kinda did what Jurassic Park did for me as a kid. The effects to this day look amazing and hold up. KotM is a fun ride, and GvK is okay popcorn flick (I'm not a fan of the Hollow earth stuff). But I hate they killed Serizawa's character off.....then we got no info or screentime with his son. He should have been the glue holding the films together. Even small cameos would have been fun.

My ranking: 4: Godzilla I remember seeing this movie when I was 8. It was great. However, nowadays with the other monsterverse movies existing, it comes out at the bottom. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still good, but it’s not *that* good. There isn’t quite enough action, and the acting is… not the best. The soundtrack is fine, but GvK and KOTM did it better. 3: Kong: Skull Island Just slightly better than Godzilla, Skull Island is still a solid movie. The monster action is really good, the characters are really good, and Samuel L. Jackson’s character is the best human antagonist in the monsterverse. However, the soundtrack is the weakest of the 4 movies, and it doesn’t quite hold up compared to the next 2 movies. 2: Godzilla vs Kong This was the first massive blockbuster of the new decade, and it delivered. The characters are probably the weakest in the monsterverse, but the action more than makes up for it. The monster action is phenomenal. The soundtrack is also really good, though it reuses the same music a little too much. Mechagodzilla was a great concept, with solid execution. While it could have been set up better, the fights with it are amazing as always. Great movie. 1: Godzilla: King of the Monsters Not only is KOTM my favorite monsterverse movie, but it’s my favorite movie full stop. Everything about this movie is great to me. The characters, while not the best, are good enough. The monster action is unparalleled. The soundtrack is perfect. Ghidorah radiated evil, Rodan was cunning and the volcano battle between the Air Force and Rodan was great, Mothra was majestic and beautiful, and Godzilla was Godzilla. The perfect action blockbuster. 11/10. #ContinueTheMonsterverse

A note to the downers of the first Godzilla movie in this franchise. I won’t deny I do like the ones that came after the first. But let’s be honest here. The first Godzilla movie in the monsterverse series paved the way for the others and that is one of the many reasons it has such a following. I don’t blame anyone for liking or disliking the first movie in this series. There is much to like and dislike about the first movie. But in reality we should as Godzilla and Kong fans be excited that it did well at the box office because we may never have gotten the long awaited remake of Godzilla vs Kong. LONG LIVE THE KING FOR THERE IS NO OTHER TRUE KING THAN GODZILLA THE REAL KING OF THE MONSTERS

Despite its reception but KOTM was easily the best and most entertaining movie in the franchise followed very closely by Skull Island. I don’t understand how it was the least successful of the bunch though. I hope they continue the series even though Godzilla vs Kong really went in to the wacky territory, they just need to tone it down back a bit in the silliness department.

I will say to start that I am on Team Lizard, and love Godzilla, but the part of Monsterverse I respect is that Skull Island is not beat-for-beat the old King Kong story. It removes the weird relationship between the titular ape and a human woman, is respectful of the natives portrayed as living on the island, and ends with Kong alive and well for further appearances. Saying I am on Goji's side, I love the two Godzilla movies. Skull Island is good, though I have never been much fond of Kong, which I think is related to a lack of liking for apes in general. GvK is a little underwhelming for me because I am sympathetic to Godzilla. I am just hoping the future of the franchise brings Mothra back, because my recent rewatching has sent me off to AO3 looking at Goji/Mosu fic.
