    I agree with a lot of your views. I watched this opening day and walked away thinking, "That could have been 20 minutes shorter, and the human cast should have been cut down farther. " *sips on her GxK cup and eats out of her GxK popcorn tin.* Kong's story was so heartfelt. It was drawn out in places (hence the 20 minutes shorter), but it is an excellent setup for another movie. Godzilla's pink form is just 😚💋🤌🏿. I do want to watch it again to see if my heart changes about the main human cast. Unfortunately, I've personally never bought the chemistry between Jia and Ilene. Something is cold about it. And Bernie? Godzilla Allmighty, did he annoy me! I hope the next movie is more serious like Goji 2014 and that the human cast is better utilized.

    The thing that really helps sell this movie as the best thing to come out of The Monsterverse yet is the progress to it. Look at how the scope, tone, action, technology and primary Monsters have come since 2014. I don't know how intentional it was, but the makers were VERY sure to be carefull with what they did in each installment. The only thing I wish hadn't disappeared was when you saw the aftermath of the destructive battles and how people were hurt and/or killed because that was one of the things that made the Godzilla 2014 film stand out among others before it. This makes me really hate when Rebecca Hall tells a Monarch worker informing her that people are wanting Godzilla held responsible for his crimes to just basically just let them continue complaining as if it mattered.

    I've jokingly said Godzilla is the Goku of this story. He spends most of the movie training/powering up and then he's a main part in the final battle.

    I really enjoyed this one after being let-down by a second watch of GvK Whilst King of the Monsters is still my personal favourite of the Monsterverse, I do think this movie does a lot of things better than it. And this probably represents my favourite characterization of Godzilla in the more fun, popcorn level movies, I like when Big G is the jerk-ass who does the right thing, and GxK is unapologetic about it, really hope they keep this characterization going forward. Not the biggest Kong fan but I really like him in this movie, very reminiscent of Kratos in the later God of War games (For obvious reasons)

    It was you who convinced me to see this. Ok, so let's start with things I don't like. The story is bad. Human characters are here, and that's all I can say about them. This title is absolute trash. Soundtrack could not exist at all, and nothing would change. Big villain is pathetic. But this movie also has some positives. Supercharged godzilla looks cool. Shimo is a good addition to MV. Most fights are good. Return of mothra is weird but nice.

    Coming off the heels of the trilogy the seemingly drastic change in tone and audience really did a number on Gamera fans. I remember talk about how this was the worst Gamera film ever. Bro. Have you seen the Showa era Gamera films? They're inane, and as cheap and nasty as you imagine old Godzilla films are (the irony being the worst of the Showa era Godzilla is still better than the Showa era Gamera).

    I agree with you about the human cast as well. I think if they would’ve just had one team of humans in the last movie instead of “team Godzilla.” And “ team Kong “, I think the audience and critics would like it even more than they do. When you’re writing down the pros and cons of Godzilla versus Kong one of the cons are the human characters. Team Godzilla, as much as I do like these characters was really pointless. They could’ve had a water pipe break open and spill on the computer at the end and it would’ve been the same thing. They’re just really wasn’t a lot for team Godzilla to do. And it’s not the actors fault and like I said, I do like the characters, but team Kong can actually communicate with him. Team, Godzilla just has to follow him from a distance and that’s it. That’s what I loved about this movie is actually made up a new team made up of members of both teams from the last movie. I think that made the humans and their purpose mean 10 times more.

    I know there were some new kaiju fans (I say New because the new ones that just got into this genre in the last decade from the 2014 Godzilla movie and everything that’s happened since from both legendary and to, they act really weird. I felt like every other generation before them just loved Godzilla and King Kong. These kids act like King Kong stole their girlfriend.) Say they want just a solo Godzilla movie next they don’t want any other monsters in it they just want a Godzilla film. I guess it’s because of Godzilla minus one and they want to see the monster versus replicate that but in this timeline, how exactly do you do that? So they’re just supposed to turn this Godzilla bad and then by the end of the movie the humans find a way to kill him? I mean that’s really the only thing you could do in your killing one of your biggest attractions. The other thing I think people need to come to grips with is that those type of fans need to realize that Godzilla and King Kong together are kind of what makes this work now. Say what you want or your favorite is but the top three successful movies in this franchise I’ll have King Kong in them. If you’re judging the movies and you take out who your favorite is and take out the spectacle of it all in which movies just the best movies as far as the plot and things like that it’s Kong Island steel. I’m not saying that means it has to be your favorite. I know that’s the better movie but I have more fun lately the two movies with both Godzilla and Kong in them. Kong he’s what pushes the movie forward. he’s the one that can talk to the humans I’m not saying you have to have that, but it does work and most of the casual fans look at king Kong as the representative for us. I love both monsters, equally I really do. But I just don’t buy this idea that the right move is to have Godzilla in a movie by himself because the conflict would have to be the world versus him. Godzilla minus one is the best Godzilla movie, but for the universe that is set up with legendary that just wouldn’t work here. I know it sounds cool, but I think even the people saying that’s what they want once they saw it would realize they didn’t want that. Would love to see a threat, maybe even from multiple different monsters we still haven’t seen Mecca Ghidora yet. Maybe the group that stole the skull in the last movie finds a way to create him and it would be a good way to also introduce some of the other alien kaiju from Toho like Gigan. I would really like to see three or four super overpowered space monsters come in to where Godzilla, King Kong, Mothra, Rodan and and even bring in Anguirus make his debut in this hypothetical movie, and have those for fighting to defend the earth from the space monsters. Start the movie with the Worlds government just furious and they have just had it with the Titans. They’ve made up their mind. They don’t want to listen to monarch anymore and they have all these new weapons that they’re going to destroy Godzilla and King Kong and every other titan with. But before they can attack, earths monsters have the invasion from the alien monsters, and then earth military’s use all these new weapons. They’re proud of them and they don’t work. Have them. Have like a military general and some politicians so happy as they marched towards the alien monsters and they’re smiling irritated ear because after they destroy them, they will prove to monarch that they don’t need Godzilla and King Kong and the other ones either that they can take care of these threats. And after they kill these alien monsters, then they’re plan is to go after the earth monsters. But then, when the plan fails miserably, and all the military that was sent after the alien titans are all dead, the Earth realized that they’re only hope was their titans. I think that’s where they need to go next. I know why people want just a solo Godzilla movie but in this universe it wouldn’t be as cool as they think it would be.

    One complaint about the Monsterverse: I feel they're just too big. When the cities and skyscrapers and such just become sandbox toys I feel everything just loses a sense of scale that actually makes the destruction more intense. That's another thing Minus One did really well, Godzilla's size. Huge and scary but not so big it's subconsciously unrelatable. The great thing about the franchise is there's room for every interpretation, of course. Seeing in at Toho Cinemas in Shinjuku opening weekend was like a childhood dream come true.

    One thing I appreciated about this film was the human story. Not all the characters were spectacular, but they went on a proper adventure. Unlike GvK, the humans kept up with the monsters when it came to advancing the plot. I was genuinely interested to see what the humans were exploring as well as Kong. It reminds me of Godzilla vs the Sea Monster and Son of Godzilla where the humans were stuck on an island with monsters and as a kid, I wanted to see how they get out.

    Definitely doesn’t deserve 4 stars. I remember you giving Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) a well deserved 3 stars and seeing people in the comments complaining about you being too harsh on the film. From what you had to say about this film, it sounded like you were going to give it the same rating, so I was surprised to see that additional star. Don’t feel like you have to pander to your audience and give the rating they want to see.

    not really, he claimed on his first thoughts review, that he was a bit underwhelmed by GvK but this movie corrected most of the issues he had with GvK (like the focus on unesesary human filler subplots, which godzilla x kong fixes that issue) its just a case of him enjoying a movie more than the other

  • @darthadipose1920
    @darthadipose19202 күн бұрын

    @@tarzantabi7845I hadn't watched that video, so I lacked that context. I guess I was just projecting my own opinions onto him. It's been a long time since I last watched Godzilla vs. Kong, but from what I remember, the problem with the human drama wasn't that there was too much of it, but that it was bad. By having less human drama, I don't really see that as fixing the problem, but more so just sweeping it under the rug. I think viewing the human story as an unfortunate necessity to create an excuse for monsters to fight is the wrong way of looking at kaiju movies, and that, ideally, the story of the humans and the monsters should be interlinked. I find that the kaiju movies I tend to enjoy the most do this (e.g. Daimajin (1966), Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris (1999), Cloverfield (2008), and Colossal (2016) just to name a few). A large part of my disappointment with Godzilla vs. Kong was the lack of care it had for telling a compelling story. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire did seem like it was trying to fix that problem, I just think it went the wrong way in trying to do that. I don't really know where I'm going with this comment or what point I'm trying to make so I'm going to stop typing now.

    My biggest gripe with the movie was how they handled Jia. Nothing wrong with the character or the actress, she did a fine job but they sort of made her into a 'Girl who's the key to everything'. It would of made more sense, and I was hoping they would add her twin down in Hollow Earth and they both awaken Mosura like the movies of old. Not only would it make more sense, but also provide Jia a connection with Hollow Earth's natives while staying with the science lady (I forget her name). Minor gripe, I wasn't keen on how Mosura sounded in the movie. But over all I had fun with the movie. It was Kong's journey through and through and I was glad to see him have a happy ending.
