    I am an eight year veteran of the Royal Marines and a twelve year wounded combat veteran of Norway’s Jaegerkommandoen (Norway’s version of USA Navy Seals). I ate some disgusting things during training including two foot long palm worms raw, rodents roasted on a stick, and bugs of all kinds but a trip to China a few years ago did me in. I cannot insult a people for eating what is available out of poverty and necessity but some of what was offered to me I just could not consume. Some of what you show here was offered to me. The only thing you cannot adequately describe on a video is the smell. I must admit a few disgusting looking goods smelled great but most did NOT. My days of eating anything offered me are well over and done. Italian, French, BBQ, Farmhouse cooking from many countries, Indian and middle eastern food I love all of these equally. But a bear’s paw, fried tarantula, balls off of any creature: NO. I also won’t eat octopus because they’re too intelligent. Pigs are becoming a struggle for the same reason. If I live long enough I will probably give up meat of any kind eventually. But it is so hard to do.

    @brandikidd3803 Жыл бұрын

    In China they have something called the Yulan festival And they actually collect sweat dogs and sometimes often kidnap other people's dogs to serve at this festival and they will keep the dog alive until they're ready to kill them and cook them. And not only that but they kill them in front of the other dogs and they will sometimes even skin them alive and I'm sorry but I'm crying right now so some of my words might be mistyped. I actually have a A bill or large if they're trying to pass to cancel this festival every year I don't knowIf you watch reality TV or not but I don't realize wife's a Beverly Hills Lisa your pun is trying to get this close down. I had dogs and cats my entire life and I cannot understand why somebody would be so cruel to these animals when they are dependent upon you to care for them. Is they were born in the wild and they were hunted as a source of food worldwide would be one thing but these are animals that we took in demonstrated andtrigued as patch and no you want to Torment and be cool to these animals. To me it's like taking a bus 3 count and gathering all the homeless people and then saying you're gonna watch why we skin this one alive and chop them up to beserved as a meal to these people are just festival it's about. It means it's not something that you think that you consider a good idea? I wouldn't why would you do it too animals end especially when it's that you plan upon us to stay alive to be sad to be loved ?! If this accomplishes anything hopefully it at least brings awareness to Yulan festival and try to support trying to get it to become illegal.

    Here in Philippines we have three types of egg. The normal one which is the white, the red one which is called the “itlog na pula” or salted egg (because it is fermented to become tastes salty), and the last one is “balut” which is the egg of a duck which has a duckling inside mwehe😁. We also eat worm here, the milky one which I do not know what the name is and the “tamilok” that can be found on the mangroves. And we also have that edible bird nest food in here. The bird called as “balinsasayaw” in us. And it taste awesome!! Yeah totally!! But china ahahaha they are eating anything as long as it is exotic😂

Also a recommendation for eating bugs is to eat fried locusts and dragonfly’s , silk worms taste mushy. Also you can eat giant salamander, and snakes in certain restaurants together 😊 Black tofu also tastes great but is now pretty rare cause you have to set it for so long. Most of these foods are actually quite rare. Do I haven’ tried most of them yet. My dad has tried dogs when he was young , he lived in the farm lands though and ever since he learned it was bad like my mom with shark fins they stopped eating them forever. Wrong,, from the word itself, "balut" it originated from Philippines, then brought by the Chinese merchants to China..because even before Spanish colonization, Philippines were doing business trades with it's neighboring countries. There are also foods that came from China which are popular now in the Philippines like Shopao, shomai, but we never change the name, and you can figure out that the name itself sounds Chinese words, so you know it originated from China you must know the original name to know where the item came from. Example: shinkansen- Japanese word so it came from Japan Kimchi- Korean word so it originated from Korea Paella- Spanish word so it originated from Spain or Europe Burger- English so it originated from America.. Learn the original name before saying that balut came from China .. balut is not Chinese word ok.. balut is originated in the Philippines.. from its name it is Philippines language, not Chinese..

    The reason China has so much weird foods is because China is a conglomeration of various cultural ethnicities that, through the centuries (and millennia) melded together into one homogenous cultural soup. All of the old dishes were either preserved or influenced by these other cultures to change and branch off into these many varieties. Many dishes had cultural significance, others had historical reasons for existing, still others were foods of desperation during times of famine or war that stuck around either because they didn't taste too bad or because people grew accustomed to it, and even today things are being invented as Western culture clashes with more and more parts of China.

    More info that may clear out some misconceptions ( and some are just extra facts ) : -The century egg isn’t suppose to be eaten by itself , put sesame oil and soy sauce. -The bird spit is said to be good for people that are pregnant -The red bean pudding from Japan actually originated from the Chinese blood pudding , a monk like the idea of the pudding just not the blood part ( as they were vegan) and substituted it with red beans . -Geoducks are pronounced gooy-duck . Same, I’m confused too -Most people from China actually thinks that some of these are indeed fucked up including me

    A lot of the stuff featured here are more special foods and ingredients. You won’t see them typically in most restaurants and it’s only available if you seek it out or procure them yourself. Some are more common in certain regions as opposed to others as China likes to keep their regional specialties separated and even among the Chinese people some are more comfortable eating some of these then others. As well there has been movements moving away from the more controversial ingredients.
