Upgrading the shifter cables and the shifter is one of the first mods/upgrades I'd recommended to any 986 or 996! The 997 shifter has a slightly shorter throw and is constructed with higher quality parts. While the numeric cables tightens all the sloppiness out of the old and tired cables! Huge improvement as well as better reliability as cables are known to sometimes snap.
