Unlicensed rehab homes nearly took over a community

How did a behavioral health provider nearly took over a neighborhood in Laveen? The rehab program we are learning about now has three clinics suspended by AHCCCS (Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System), facing allegations of Medicaid fraud. This comes as the state continues its crackdown on the sober living scheme. FOX 10 Investigator Justin Lum has more on the recovery homes' impact on the neighborhood.

Amazing that an LLC was allowed to buy 10 new homes in a newly built community. No wonder the everyday American cant afford a home.

Good for you Jackie for taking that step. It seems like people now days don’t want to get involved.

This is and has been a problem for communities as more group homes/rehab move into a housing development. Some of the homes are managed very well. Some are only for income to the community provider. These agencies see state Medicaid/ Medicare billing as a cash cow. The residents are the means by which they access the cash benefits. Easy money. Only have to clean things up when it’s time for annual state/ fed surveys. Staff only see these community homes only as a workplace with little or no pride or effort to keep the house up. This is when actual homeowners become concerned that their property values are taking a hit. Community “treatment” is downgraded to a money making scheme at that point

That's what these facilities will do, they will find somebody that has a relatively clean slate, they will have them take out the line of Credit in their name and file whatever they can to receive financials, like grants and loans, to operate the facility under whatever fraudulent title they can. They will take people who have AHCCCS, they will file the paperwork on behalf of the person "seeking treatment" then instead of that person directly receiving their benefits or treatment independently, the person running the Facility will receive their benefits on behalf of them.. .because they are in treatment and have to be supervised so to speak... The layers to this ish are sooo deep but it's pretty black and white easy to see how.

Money gone should not be the only concern in a fraud case like this.

People stop working for a place like this! This is what is killing the house market we need to purposely not work here!

You have a valid point but any homeowner who complains will be seen as being discriminatory against the needs and rights of the clients who have disabilities. Then the homeowner is marked for trying to maintain his/her property value. While the clients experience stress among the staff in the group home. Nobody wins at this point🤷‍♀️. Sad

Only one company, Native American fund, out of the five AHCCS companies covered the addiction problem n homelessness. How can the state allow only one company to offer help in this area? Remember, addiction is considered a disease!
