Fantastic job Justin Lum! I worked in the substance use disorder field for over a decade and I walked away in 2021 as more government money was getting tossed at the problem because I foresaw issues like this coming. Not to mention the rising death rates. Sad. Keep up the good work Justin!

I hope other states start following suit. There is a lot of fraud and abuse in addiction recovery. My former employer overbills insurance for services and medications never rendered. They were evicted from OKC and transported tribe members to Arkansas.

Since people were being flown in from different states, it would fall under the purview of the FBI and might fall under RICO statutes.

News sites lack the personality and stylized presentation of popular KZreadrs. Also, it’s buried in a local branch of a major news organization, a news organization that most people don’t find trustworthy to begin with due to inflammatory rhetoric surrounding national politics.

It has been very frustrating watching this happen. Millionaires made off of people and their vulnerability. Who just wanted to get sober. I really want them held accountable, the fraudsters. All of them. People died, are displaced, were abused, assaulted, and are now homeless, missing and without any means of doing anything.

Me n my kids went to many homes some where we were kept inside hotels and a house doing nothing. I thought we were going to receive treatment as a family but my kids were kept at home everyday doing nothing. Wish these ppl are held accountable. I lost my daughter to depression after we were discharged last year on March 11,2023. Today is a year I lost her. Only 11 days after we came home she lost her life to depression. I tried getting help we needed. I'm hurt daily. I wish they would be held accountable for what happened to my baby as well. But how?

scammers are doing the same thing here where i live in denver but with fentanyl addicts who are on the street in pueblo and colorado springs (1-2 hrs away from Denver on a good day). they go around on the streets and offer to pay these addicts minimum $100 a day to be driven hours away and back home each day, 6 days a week, to go to the methadone clinics. they haul as many patients as they can in these brand new HUGE SUVs w/ temp tags and charge Medicaid for the several hrs a day trips on a PER PERSON basis. Drivers were hearing about making somewhere around $10,000 a day doing this BS. this is NOT how Medicaid dollars should be spent, or STOLEN from the poor people who absolutely need it. these people have no soul. absolutely disgusting

Every time money becomes available there's someone setting up a way to get it. Look at the number of scandals from mobility scooters to knee braces. I noticed billing from a pharmacy I used one time wasn't correct, Medicare wasn't interested in my information. When a provider I was seeing charged repeatedly for procedures not done, same thing. I've changed Drs but the fraud continues I'm fairly sure.

I would like to see a more in depth look at AHCCCs role in this. As an example, there is NO WAY a person should have been allowed to enroll in AIHP without a COB (certificate of tribal blood). There are amazing legitimate places out there trying to help people and struggling because of this scandal.

The city of Surprise is doing something by going after unlicensed homes, however what happens to the people who were living there? It's one thing to want to cut down crime and drug usage in your neighborhood, but it's another to disregard human life so callously that the answer is just to evict those who need intensive sobriety treatment without connecting them to any reputable services and shelter.

This is a nationwide issue. A legal form of human exploitation. Recruiters/headhunters. A very ugly evolution of social services. And people wonder why homeless and migrants will live in a tent before engage with these nasty organizations. And if the staff are nasty, then the people who own the organization is nasty, no matter how rich nasty made them.

  • @Simfyre

I have to wonder if this is a large contributing factor to the homeless crisis in Phoenix and surrounding areas. People blame the homeless instead of understanding it is a system failure upon system failure upon system failure.

Had Monica been taken to a licensed facility, she might still be alive. What was missing in this story is how they keep people in their care, so that they can continue to bill for services. Monica wanted help, and instead she was taken advantage of.
