@@alexeimarcilio2630 No bro, he gives some of the best info about planted tanks, I've read a bit on Walstad, and some science that goes into these and also just typical biology on swamps, creeks etc. and gone to some tutorials on the Internet and planted tank forums, and let me say it, it was a pain seeing how much bad info is out there, one is using gravel instead of sand, I firmly beleive that sand is better for the aquarium for several reasons, and most people don't get the how fine the gravel should be for capping purposes, so wake can lead to bleeding into the water column. And likewise, Father fish has lots of respectable advice, although I don't use some. I saw a comment on a person who use a lot of water and stuff from creeks and natural sources, I don't do that because of some parasites in my local water sources.

@@OceanLife6977Hello friend, I am also currently doing a lot of research and trying stuff at a slow pace, so if you have the time, it would mean the world to me if you could write down some of your experiences and findings, mostly regarding substrate and those little tiny bits of problems that arise in these tanks which we, particularly natural aquarium keepers don't really have good sources on, but one being FF discord.

Its doing well except i cheaped out on plants when i first set it up. Many of the plants i had have died over n over. I think mainly because they dont get enough light. I have 2 huge amazon swords in the tank.

@@ThuyTran-xw6cb I am using Scott’s premium topsoil (because it hasn’t been steamed and has some peat moss). I added two teaspoons of humic acid pellets mixed into the dirt evenly and About a heaping cup and a half of natural clay kitty litter. I mixed it all together evenly, breaking up all clumps, then wet the dirt down just enough to saturate the mixture. I will keep in moist but not soaked and keep breaking up the soil with my hands. In the morning I will make sure it’s as pulverized as I can get it and then add a two inch pool-sand cap. I’d like to have river sand. I am just unable to get it currently (but I think it would be better😊). I will seed the tank with some rinsed but not boiled oak leaves etc and add my driftwood from our local river which I did soak in boiling water because our river front is filthy. also, if I had good garden soil, I would’ve mixed that in a little bit (maybe 4 cups) but I keep chickens, so I don’t trust my soil pH. But it seems there is a lot of beneficial bacteria in the first three or 4 inches of garden soil. Also, we have raccoons that visit regularly and a few opossums and I just don’t trust our soil to not be contaminated. not to mention my indoor outdoor cats lol.

Father Fish I've been wanting to do this for quite a while and have questions. I have an existing established 20 gallon river rock aquarium that's capable of growing plants and spot algae. I don't have many fish just a 2 common plecos, 2 spotted Raphael catfish, and a tiger barb. So using this method I can easily use my existing water & drop in my fish immediately without any issues or fear of losing fish? I would also need to add 80% more plants?

I have learned a lot from your videos about Natural Aquarium. I like how you keep fish in their natural environment. I had a aquarium and fish many times and they died. And I tried again and failed and tried in 2018 and failed again. I got rid of my aquarium. And never wanted keep fish again. After watching your videos I know what I did wrong. After Watching your videos and learning the right way, now I want to have a natural aquarium and fish again . I do have few questions for you, can I email them to you?

A question from me, How do you size your leds for a planted tank? Is there a ratio of watt per litre? Is there too much light? And how important is the light frequency?

  • @FatherFish

How long until you can add fish?? I am looking to get back into this. Ive never had a soil/sand sub straight, or live plants... Im looking to get a flex 32.5G tank with live plants... Have not decided on the fish yet. I am mainly learning about your method of sub straights and plants. How long do you let the tank be after setting up the new tank with plants before adding you fish

Hey Father Fish. I have a tank with fish and gravel in at the moment but since finding you, I have wanted to go the natural route. Could I 'get away with' removing the fish for a short time, setting up the dirt and sand (I already have lots of plants) and replacing the fish on the same day or will I need to leave the tank to establish? I remember seeing that you should leave it for a few weeks but I have nowhere to put the fish in the meantime. Many thanks for your videos ☺️

Hello again! I've another question: I just set up - that is I put in 1" or soil (garden soil + Coconut coir + homemade compost) with what I thought was 2" of very fine "pool" sand in a 10 G aquarium. After I added the water the sand appears to have swelled and now is 3" high! How did that happen? Is this normal? Should I remove the extra inch of sand ? Or let it settle for a day or two or three and see what happens?? Thank you, Susie fromTexas

Hi FF. Thanks for all your videos. I am ready to set 100 ltr tank with. I plan to use your method with one modification. I would like to add about 3 cm of other substrate above sand cap. Preferably I want to use MANADO from JBL. I want to use it as very top layer and some stone and driftwood to make some kind of aesthetics layer. Altogether with lot of live plants and very few small fish (maybe 5 glowlight tetras or cherry barbs) and colony of neocaridina shrimps. I understand sand cap importance, but I do not want it as visible top layer. Is any chance that it will work, please?

@@FatherFish Thank You very much for response sir! I am very happy and I appreciate it. I am watching your videos about natural tanks for few weeks already and I am more and more interested in it. I even signed up to your discord, but unfortunately I am not really good in those platforms. Simple forum or chat here is much more friendly for me. I am getting old maybe. LOL. One day I will write and send you story of my 12 years old 200 ltr tank. You will be laughing on that. For now thanks again for response. I wish you all the best from Ireland!! The best for me could be to order some pack for start from you, but it is not effective about delivery, so I have to find right components locally. And I need little more study as I am still not sure for example which soil and peat moss and compost to use. Not all bags are clearly marked and described. So if is it possible I will ask you few more questions next week, when my new tank will arrive. Also I can not wait to set few resurrection jars...
