Brittney is singing AS the Matriarch in this video. Story background: This song is a good summary of the whole Apex album. The Immortal (protagonist) is bound by the call of the one who awakens him, in this case The Matriarch (antagonist). She uses him to gather her 4 children for a ritual to allow her immortality. She promises the Immortal freedom from his curse to follow the one who awakens him in exchange. Big surprise, she betrays him and that sets up the sequel album, Abyss. Edit: Legacy from Abyss or Apex from Apex are great songs to check out.

This song's general storyline is sung from The Matriarch's perspective. She is asking the Immortal that she had awakened(in Awakening) to find her four sons, bring them to her, so she can kill them in blood ritual so she(The Matriarch) can gain immortality for herself. Video Context: Why is there a Falcon? The Immortal was awakened in chapter 1/Awakening. In his past, there has always been a "guide" to lead him to where his master(summoner) awaits. But this time there was nothing, and The Immortal is stuck wandering around amiously for a few days. In chapter 2, his guide finally arrives in the form of a Falcon. Chapter 2 is titled "Shadow Guide" as The Immortal follows the Falcons shadow that it casts while flying overhead. Visual story shown: Brittney has explained that the video itself is not in direct relation/exact representation of the story that's being told in the songs lyrics. The video is showing "tidbits" of the whole story(Apex half) itself. The scenes shown are actually in the future compared to where the lyrics are set in the stories timeline. The video begins with The Matriarch walking with the Falcon on her arm. She meets with the Fully Cloaked Immortal as he has returned with one of her son's. The Matriarch's prior commands to The Immortal were for him to find, capture and return her 4 sons to her alive. The Immortal hands The Matriarch the knife, "I've done my part and brought one of your son's alive, now it's your turn." The son we see is her youngest, and also the leader of her armies. He is in disbelief that she sent for him so that she could kill him. He seems a bit hopeful and relieved as she looks happy and caressed his face. But, her expression changes, and the son sees the darkness in her eyes and he clutches his sword. He then gets distracted by the falcon flying off, which gave The Matriarch the perfect opportunity to pull the knife and slice his throat. Brittney said the video is based around the ritual itself. She never mentioned who the guy covered in blood and screaming was. In my opinion, he is the final son(from Earth and Ashes). My reasoning behind this: Unlike his brothers, he was the only son who gave up on searching for power and control. He decided to live a quiet and secluded life with his wife and child. He did not fight back against the Immortal and accepted his fate. When he(the son) finally arrived at the ritual site, he sees his 3, already slain brothers, and rages out. He is leaving his wife and child behind, his brothers are dead, and it's all due to his evil mother, greedy and hungry for Immortality. Like you said, everything about this song is epic. I highly recommend the song Apex 🤘🇨🇦

Lost in most KZread reactions is the concept of ‘album’ - especially when it comes to concept and story albums like this one. It’s meant to be listened to from the beginning til the end. And here we have a story that have spanned two entire albums. I’m all for these kinds of albums. Many of my favourite albums are concept/story albums/rock/metal operas.

I only discovered this band via this channel, and I'm now obsessed with them. Great musicianship, great lyrics... but most importantly, actually great songwriting as well. And for that matter, a lot of variety from one song to the next. Plenty of bands can play fast, hit some high notes, flashy guitar solos or whatever... but if you're heard 16 bars of them you've kinda heard their whole repertoire. Not so with UTA. Honestly I suspected I'd gotten too old be excited by new bands but these guys are special. Tremendously talented group.

Hard to pick a song but perhaps "Forever" or the one that shares your name, "Elizabeth" both from the "One Cold Winter's Night" concert. You'll have a blast analysing the singer, trust me! :)

The process is pretty well understood by now. The problem lies in the fact that "original" damascus steel needed ore from a specific mine in india , that is depleted . That ore had alloy elements that permitted the work of Damas craftsmen. It is true that no modern "damascus" is "true" "damascus" . But it is also true that nobody cares. Every person that own or craft modern damascus blades know that fact and still call that "damascus"

Oh man, so happy you're deep diving into UTA! Honestly the whole Apex/Abyss story arc is incredible. Definitely worth digging in to the narrative that runs through both albums, as it really adds to the experience. If I had to pick a single song, it would be a 3 way toss up between The Wind That Shapes the Land, Soulbound, and Faster Than Light... The intro belts for both Soulbound and Faster Than Light are Incredible! But The Wind That Shapes The Land, it takes you on a journey... It's an epic, a truly epic song!

I think that one of the coolest aspect of "Apex" and "Abyss" is that the antagonist, the Matriarch, is unashamedly evil. She has no redeeming qualities and no back story that excuses her vile deeds. She is just plain bad. Too often Hollywood turns female villains into little princesses that were just having a bad day. Having a bad to the bone female villain is so refreshing.

Those kind of characters are pretty awful though.... good characters are ones that can be interpreted in different ways and make you have to wrestle with feelings Also I'm unfamiliar with Apex/Abyss but usually when I hear someone describe a character as "100% evil with no explanation" I later find out they're simply missing a lot of ambiguities present within the work

@@alexanderplatypus3664 - As far as Willow is concerned, I suppose Sorsha was the villain struggling with the moral dilemma not the evil queen. For a story within music it's maybe better to have more deliberate motivations because you don't have a great deal of room to weave a complex narrative like a book or film. A lot of it has to be interpreted through possibly vague lyrics in a short amount of time. I could be wrong. I'm neither an author or musician, haha.

I am glad I stumbled across this channel. Elizabeth seems to react very genuinely and enthusiastically, especially to music outside what I would assume is outside of her studies. Very cool! I just wanted to offer a bit of info. I love that you are even aware of the term blast beat, but given I have at least an associates degree in metal, I can assure you that this song doesn't contain any blast beats. A blast beat is a name for a very specific type of technique. It is generally a variation of a one handed roll on the snare and one to two feet on the kick drum, depending on the type of blast beat. For a simple way to understand it, think of a polka beat and then bring it up to at least 180bpm and you have a blast beat! Unleash the Archers do feature some songs with them, most notably "Crypt", but you generally find blast beats in more extreme forms of metal such as death or black metal. KZreadr 66Samus does a concise and entertaining video highlighting some of the different blast beats out there. Pretty cool to check out if you are curious for more info. Hopefully this doesn't come off as elitist, I just wanted to offer some knowledge.
