One of the reasons for the defeat of the Decembrists was noticed by Lenin: "They are terribly far from the people."

Revolution cannot be handed down from above by a handful of idealistic aristocrats dreaming up sandcastles in the sky. One of the most important political lessons of the 19th century, and one that made 1917 possible.

@@IPlayWithFire135 That's why they Decembrists needed a more widespread appeal if they had any hope of success. Involve more of the common folk to gain their support. I mean you can't have a successful revolution without involving everyone regardless of class

@@josevictorionunez9312 Yup. But unfortunately, their paradigm of politics was still the "put our man on the throne" one. You don't need strikes, protests, or soviets for that. But you can't blame them, it took Lenin decades of herding cats to instill an outlook in anyone that wasn't "father Tsar will save us", "blow up the Tsar and liberty will bloom", or "wait for development and democracy".
strange, one see the CC that supposedly gives english subtitles but even when it is clicked, you get no translation. help?
After this rebellion, it was time for a real feat. Many officers were exiled to Siberia and then their wives went after their husbands. So that you understand, then it was possible to move only by horse-drawn sleds. These women from aristocratic families suffered hardships, but went to their husbands. That's a feat. The feat of Russian women. There was also a Frenchwoman, Pauline Geuble.

Everyone who have any interest in Decembrists Revolt should read Сonstituion by Muraviyev and Russian Truth by Pestel. Afterwards your feelings about Decembrists become much colder.

Why? what did the say?

Muraviyev was a Republican and Pestel was a radical republican who argued for killing the royal family, I’m assuming that’s what he’s referring to. Though it should be noted the radical republican wing of the Decembrists were subordinate to the constitutional monarchist reformists, and Pestel later renounced his former violent views about the royal family.

So I guess attacking the cannons would be too hard?
Почему у них (и у Николая І-го то же) отсутствует зимняя форма одежды?
it is very strange that the rebels did not take their artillery with them. Or did they just hope to scare the tsar? unlike Napoleon, the idea of using cannons did not occur to the guards officers.

@@Astragoth00 after the defeat of Napoleon in Russia.

Unfortunately, he renounced his succession rights to Nicholas.
They went to Europe to fight against Napoleon and saw first hand what other countries had in the way of Freedoms and they wanted some of that back in Mother Russia. The Tsar was not going to put up with that and put down this down with extreme violence. Survivors were sent off to Siberia just imagine if he decided to work with them; very likely no Communist takeover of Russia some ninety three later.
