actually there is good reason for that . they didn't hang people or execute anyone in russia for decades before that, even for murder. fact. quite unlike western europe of the period when people were executed daily by the dozens for even stealing things ( as in uk ). and left hanging in public. and russia continued with that policy, with the exception of treachery(ie rebellion) to country.

I think because most, if not all Decembrists who took part served during the Napoleonic Wars. Essentially those Decembrists who were hanged may have had a flashback in their final moments for example, like the victory against Napoleon as shown in the clip

The part where muravyov-apostol asks Nicolas in accordance with what law are they punished by at 19:16 and Nicolas is suddenly silent. Both badass and hilarious to me

I still don’t get why they charged toward the square, I mean even cuirassiers can’t just charge towards a gigantic square and expect them to win? Also do u by any chance play napoleon total war? Or empire? I have NTW3 rn.

I think in real life they charged to intimidate, but some of the soldiers got scared and actually fired at them, which surprised the cuirassiers. After that the cuirassiers turned around and retreated. 80% sure

@@ariannasky945 I have seen various russia movies with various sub but just this one are impossible to find it. This historical event are one of my favorite what happen after Napoleon defeat and western ideas brought into Russia to modernize it.

One thing for sure, Nicolas the First had too much hater.

War crimes only existed after WW I, besides this barrage was ordered by the emperor. However there are uncertainty among soldiers, coz they're firing against their fellow comrades

look up “Treaty of Tilsit 1807” where napoleon (france) and tsar alexander (russia) forged an alliance until napoleon breached the treaty by invading russia in 1812 following his defeat and abdication in 1814
