That made me laugh and wince in equal measures lol
If you ordered the same 42t rear sprocket and are keeping the same 17t front, the bike is gonna be the same dog as it was. lose one t up front to 16t sprocket and add 3t un rear, so you end up with 16:45. You'll lose a bit of top speed, but the bike will be much more of a riot to ride. I changed just front initially, but after swapping the rear, I really fell in love with 950 and never looked back to original crap ratio. Nicely done on the rest tho :)

We enjoy anything and everything that comes out of Chris' garage. Thanks for sharing with us! As always, much love from Northern California. 👨👩👧❤
Owned a 2004 950 Adventure and have been a fan of the LC8 platform ever since.
I love projects. I raced motorcross in the 60’s and 70’s. Just a simple 2 stroke motor and frame all less than 200 pounds. Now a heavy, high maintenance 4 stroke with wiring harness that stretches to the moon! Lol Enjoy ur videos!
I love you garage videos! Your enthusiasm is very contagious. I had to halt my bike building project (DR750) to finish some renovations on my house. But I’m almost ready to get back in the garage now nearly a year later. So nice to see the bike back on two wheels again.
Loving these rebuilds👌❤💯
Finally! Please don’t let us wait for months until the next one 😅

Great stuff,👍👍
Bro! This is so cool! That blue frame is so sick! You are going to have such an awesome machine. So excited to see how she turns out! 🙂
Great build mate ! Keep it up.
Loving the blue!
Dual disks don't really improve braking power, they just improve endurance (i.e. reduce wear and, most importantly, fade but you've got to be a real savage to get fading on a rally stage with an adventure bike). You *may* want to switch your master cylinder, though
Cool build Paris Dakar here we come

Come on mate we need another episode!! We're dying of thirst here!! 😂😂 😬😬🙏🙏
I bought my 990 ADV new in 2007, wore it out with 85K+ miles, then just parked it and bought a 1090R ADV in 2018. I still have the 990, she's gonna get this treatment soon, I hope!! My "Punkin" deserves new life!
Yep just what I needed to see
I want to do a project build but I haven't been able to find one that's mechanically sound enough for someone with my mechanical skills 😅. Love the vids
Love the forks
I'm so tempted to buy a project 950 😂
Love these type of vids. Interesting to see if you finish before chopsey and his hypermotard?
Hi Chris, I was wondering when you would be starting to put the KTM back together. Very useful that you describe the correct type of sock to use... :-)
part II please!!! :)
Thank you for the awesome videos documenting this project. However, the SX forks have shorter outer tubes than the Adventure forks so would it not be a risk for the front wheel to come in contact with the radiator and/or lower triple clamp when the forks are bottomed out?
Best fun big adventure bike I own
Great project. How do you find it with the suspension now it’s higher? I had the same concerns with when it gets technical and you need the odd foot down I’d be screwed! I’m 5.10 I have a 2004 with 235mm forks I’m looking at taking it to someone who knows what they are doing (suggestions appreciated) to revalve and change springs. Bike looks ace well done!
16:00...that torque...manly
I'm fixing up a damaged spare fuel tank for my 2013 990SMT. Curious to know about how you restored your fuel tanks (they look great) and what type of paint was used.
Hey, when is ne next part coming, I love this series 😎✌️
Can you give us a teaser? I'm curious about the project.
Episode 6 Please ..💙

That’s thanks to the season I spent blowing up an over-tuned ZX-6 in British Supersport 😂. Having to swap engines on my own at 2am every other meeting was a good challenge!
Where can I download the sapreparts manual?
Been waiting for this project to get back in action. Great information. Looks good so far. Hmm wonder does the same wheel , fork setup work for the 990 ?
@chrisnorthover7582
3 жыл бұрын
It should be the same for a 990 I believe. The only thing I still have to check is if the front wheel clears the rad/battery at full bump (and if the sump guard is still clear of the floor) as the new fork will let the wheel move about 20mm further up than before.
Does anyone know what dash panel he’s using?
Post the next video already! Suspense is killing us.
You’ve more jam than Hartley’s😜
What rear tire has this bike.. ?
Chris it's time to get the spanners out again on this KTM
What is it with you and socks? Haha. Lets start a patreon so we can send you some dosh to buy some rags..🤪🤗
How's the project going?
Why do we spend our spare time cleaning nuts and bolts? Don’t know but I love it!
Where is the next one ??? Btw that frame might snap , be careful the 950 have the habbit to crack next to the headstock upper plate.

@@chrisnorthover7582 thanks for the reply. Let us know - lots of us would like the extended travel, as well! Awesome build!
Have always wondered what an insurance company would do/say if you had a crash and they found out you had one of those cruise control things on your bike.
Cool you should be fine with one rotor only….let us know!
Mmmm...Jack Daniels...😍 Or is it Engine oil..😀😀😀😀
Regarding the 250SX forks ... will you have clearance issues under full compression? Ie is the wheel going to hit your radiator? If you have increased travel, but have shorter outer tubes, the front wheel will come up much higher than it was ever designed to. At the very least the front of the bike is going to be much lower under full compression ... From what I’ve observed, dirt bike forks & adv forks are the same overall length, but the adv forks have longer outer tubes - ie longer under full compression - vs dirt bike forks
@chrisnorthover7582
3 жыл бұрын
Correct - fork outers are 30mm shorter than stock - when the bike is assembled I’ll remove the top caps and check clearance at full bump. If it’s a problem, I’ll work out how to solve it then, but for now I’m going with the mindless optimism approach 😁.

@@jonnycutcorners So far so good. Not had any visible impacts between front wheel and anything on the bike despite some big hits. FYI I'm running the forks as low as possible in the triple clamps (ie minimum pull-through).

What happened?🤔
Why not bag and label as you strip it then you just grab the bag relevant to what your bolting on.
@chrisnorthover7582

Definitely an easier way of doing it - but for this bike loads of the bolts were either random wrong ones or a corroded mess so I referenced the parts manual to get things back to stock.
Better keep the ‘limp mode’ from the KTM electronics
So what happened to this build?!?!?!?
Hi I have a problem that I am at a loss with, I will try to explain I had a 2018 KTM 690 Duke which I loved , after a while I wanted a bigger bike and bought a 990 Adventure 2012 29000 miles It is near immaculate, however not long after I bought it , the throttle started bogging down and at cold start up it would cut out up to 10 times before it held an idle, then when you pulled off the bikes response would be all over the place, it seemed to improve a bit when fully warm So I took it to KTM Plymouth where it had a valve clearance service and the mechanic there said the problem was the throttle bodies which he replaced This did not solve the problem and when I took it back he basically said he didn’t have time to look any further suggesting I take it somewhere else and quoting that after 2014 all bikes have to be plugged in This obviously wasn’t what I wanted to hear after spending £1450 with them So I took it to another mechanic where it has been for the last 10 days and have heard nothing Please can you help me in any way I am now nearly £9000 into the bike, at am at the end of my tether, surely something can be done it’s just the throttle all over the place Even if I have to have it rebuilt I am at the point where I have to follow this through and for the short time it was working I thought I had found the perfect bike for me I look forward to your reply and once again can you help or point me in the right direction. I can get the bike to anywhere I just want and need my bike working Kind regards Mr Justin Putbrace
@xtcrider8270

Justin, you may not like to hear it but to get that money back you might want to look into part the whole bike out. You may be able to make some profit off of it. After that I would buy the carbed 950s. Fuel injection is unreliable and overcomplicated
We’re going to have to fall out if you’re going to call underpants ‘pants’ 🤔

What's the point putting in all the work restoring a bike just to put in fucked bolts that you stripped all the coating off? Just spend a few quid and order new ones.
