Understanding & Reading

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Conversation with my friend about how to understand and read knitting charts. This video is for knitters who would like to knit #fair #isle patterns. The pattern in this video is just a mock-up pattern (an example) for learning - I am not sure how it would turn out if you would use it for knitting.
If you have extra funds to donate toward yarn, or any other tools for my art/knit/crochet projects, or buy me a coffee while I create, edit and share my creations that would be awesome - ko-fi.com/artknitcrochet

Thank you for explaining the No Stitch (grey box) in this chart. I’m starting out with my first colour work knit and was very confused by the grey boxes in the pattern. 🙏🏼😀

I listened to the section you had about reading charts and it was very informative. I still have a question, however, because what I'm working on is a mitten and I have knitted a K2xP2 rib over 40 stitches. On the first row after the ribbing it shows the next section, which looks like the chart you described. There are a number of stitches that are satin stitched and then suddenly, you have those gray boxes for the thumb gusset. How do I just skip over those stitches and act like they aren't there, when they are on my left needle? What do I do with the stitches I'm skipping? I am still lost about how to skip them...please help!

Hi Adrienne - this is a great question - yes you should just ignore and start knitting next stitch that is on the pattern - you will add those stitches as you go in next rows... if you look at how I am knitting my very simple thumb in the video for fingerless gloves you will realize that the thumb is constructed like a "V" - go watch the thumb part in my video maybe it will make sense later on while working on "Fair Isle" on your mittens. kzread.info/dash/bejne/oYmnp8uvhNypnqQ.html

Hi Bronislava! Thank you for the video! Sorry, why do you say that you made a mistake marking the beginning of the 8th row with a dot for a yarn over? Shouldn't we need it for the first stitch of the 9th row? Thanks again!

Hey how does this chart thing work i dont want to do fair isle like i want to change colors when knitting off a chart like purl purple and knit stich green how would that work?

Hi Adam - great questions. So, 1. this particular chart would not come out as good as you would expect, I made it just for educational purpose, so it would have to be changed a bit to come out well. 2. The fair isle (or rather colorwork) is a work of 2 or more colors of yarn. So the combination of 2 different colors plus knit and purl stitches are even more advanced that just knit stitches with 2 different yarn colors. I hope this helps you to understand what is a colorwork (also called fair isle)

This video is teaching people to “understand “ how it works and how to read the charts. Not to knit along. You should apply this knowledge to other patterns 😉🍀

@@HandMadeRukodelky I know you are trying to teach people how to understand and read charts, but your tutorial instructions do not begin until 2.49. Before that is just too much chattering. In this fast moving world the beginning was just not essential.
