In the middle of my first fair-isle sweater, I needed to find out which colour yarn I needed to pick up. I’m happy to discover that I’m doing it right. Of dozens of KZread’s, yours is the one that finally answered my question. Many thanks.

This video greatly helped me - I've never seen this way of making a stitch, always did it in a different way, but this is so much nicer and neat looking. Also thanks for showing how you align your cable when moving from one needle to another - saved my sanity (I'm knitting a stranded sleeve from the narrow end for the first time). Many thanks, very instructive and helpful!

I’m just mesmerized by your knitting! It’s flawless! I’m working on a Scandinavian slipper that starts at the heel with pattern on top and stranded in the bottom. It calls for make one by picking up the stitch below. I’m having a hard time keeping the pattern. I wish I could show you my botch job for guidance 😕

Hi Suzanne! I’m working on a thumb gusset for a stranded pattern. So, even if it is a float, do you still pick up the strand that corresponds to the color you are increasing with?

Hi Suzan, can we convert any bottom-up colorwork cardigan chart to top-down one? I mean does it matter if I use the same increasing numbers instead of the decreasing ones or vice versa? are colorwork charts numbers usable both way? thank you so much by the way, I learn a lot from you:)

You are very correct. Just replace increase with decreases and decreases with increases.

How do I make increases and keep in the pattern, for example on a sleeve?

  • @SuzanneBryan

For shaping in stranded knitting, you can make increases and continue in pattern. You would extend the chart in pattern. This particular video is in conjunction with a pattern that I have available on Ravelry called Starry Starry Night Socks. In the pattern, the gusset is worked with increasing in pattern.

I’m trying to make slippers from Laura Farson’s Scandinavian slippers and socks, her book says to M1R by lifting the the right stitch below ( the mother) and M1L by lifting the second Left stitch below ( the grandmother) I’m having the hardest time staying in pattern😩 I’ve looked for tutorials on this but can’t find any. Are you familiar with this book and technique? Any help you can give would be so appreciated!

What she means are Lifted Increases. Here is my video on Left Lifted Increase - kzread.info/dash/bejne/aKmJk8WDZburY5c.html and here is my video on Right Lifted Increase - kzread.info/dash/bejne/mnyuvJqDiM3dopc.html. Happy knitting.

Knitting with Suzanne Bryan I get how to do them my problem is with stranded work and fair isle. I can’t see a way to lift the right leg below the 2nd stitch and stay in pattern. I keep lifting the first and last stitches and my sides where top and bottom meet are crooked☹️

That is why I don't use lifted increases in stranded knitting. I use the method shown in this video. it keeps you in pattern. And as I show in this video, I choose which color of bar to make my M1 based on the pattern. Happy knitting. I wish we lived closer so that I could show you in person.

Knitting with Suzanne Bryan you have NO IDEA how I wish the same☹️ I’m learning a lesson here, it’s that there are more ways to skin a cat and I’m not tied to what’s in the directions!...

One more question, twined knitting as in your gusset- you’re knitting the same as your fair isle? And not really twining them?

How do you decrease for arms shapes on four needles

  • @SuzanneBryan

Can you give me a little more information about what you are asking? Are you using long pins and knitting a sweater? Decreasing is the same on pins, straights or circulars. But decreasing in stranded knitting in general can be different as you want to maintain the color pattern work. Give me more information and I can help better. Happy knitting.

Thank you so much for this video!! I'm working on a stranded project and my pattern wasn't coming out correctly. I now know it's because I was picking up the wrong color.
