China cannot afford to let Russia lose, knowing it is the next target of the U.S. This is the reality of geopolitics.

It's also a matter of keeping their northern border open as American warships and bases gather on the other side of China. Russia keeps China immune from blockade.

After seeing the bombed church, why isn't the Chinese rushing to condemn Russia ? Probably the same reason why the West hasn't condemned the massacres in the decade long yemen war while supplying weapons to Saudi Arabia and the same reason the US refuses to recognize a gen*cide is happening in Palestine while proportionally every institutional structure whether it's hospital or unversity or government buildings have been obliterated. I'd like to know if Ukraine has condemned what's going on in Palestine.

I've been to a lot of cities around the world. Nothing (not even New York City) beats Shanghai. It is NOT a city of the 21st Century, but a future city of the 22nd Century.

5:49 Mariia Makarovych, the East Asian representative of the Liberal Democratic League of Ukraine recently met with Kuan-Ting Chen to discuss how Taiwan and Ukraine can continue to foster prolonged and effective communication and collaboration. 1 that girl is obviously not a china expert. for chinese, it is very easy to read both simplified or traditional characters, and now there many taiwan people surf in the mainland internet. 2 I don't know why that chinese guy didn't mention that, in chinese eyes, ukraine seeking to join in the NATO is almost same to the US deploying THAAD in South Korea, both of which mean the aggression of the US to Russia and China.

First of all, Shanghai is probably the least Chinese city in China, with the possible exception of Hong Kong. It's still a Chinese city, but its history and its role in China is very international in a kind of humiliatingly colonial way. When Russia invaded Ukraine it put China in a terrible position. On the one hand, China has been preaching sovereign integrity hard for a very long time because of the degradation of China's sovereign claim on Taiwan by outside forces over the last twenty years or so. This put them in a position sympathetic to Ukraine, whose sovereign integrity was breached. On the other hand, the western military presence has been encroaching on Russia in a dangerous way for the last quarter century in a way similar to how it has been pervasively encircling China. Russia finally stood up to it, and it's difficult for China to be unsympathetic to Russia's concerns in this regard. Also, the west is asking China to honor its economic sanctions against Russia while the west is sanctioning China. How crazy is that? In the end, regardless of any of China's personal sympathies for Ukraine, it can't afford to let the West walk over Russia if that can be avoided. It's in China's interest for the war to end, but Russia's not giving up its advances unless it's thrown out. That's not going to happen if NATO doesn't go full in, and it probably won't happen even then. And Ukraine won't give up until it's destroyed or destruction is imminent. This we might see, but Western support is going to prolong this for some time.

If the Ukrainians want to blame someone for why China gravitated towards Russia then it is the collective West, there are more Ukrainians in China than Russians so people to people connections is strong and China doesn't view Ukraine as a threat, Russia on the other hand is viewed as a threat that took Chinese lands and influence in Siberia and Central Asia, while China understands the rationale of Russia with regards to NATO expansion, it also respects the concept of territorial integrity, so it will trade with both parties but it is up to both parties if they will weaponize those goods; China's redline would be nukes and actual NATO involvement on the fight with their boots on the ground. China would have been happy supporting Ukraine regardless of NATO expansion if only the WEST did not single out China as their prime enemy that they need to contain and weaken. Well things panned out differently and if China gets involved then Ukraine is finished, but I can imagine China still being friendly to Ukrainians and even allow them to take refuge and live in China.
