Thank you for another amazing video! I started the Google Cybersecurity Certificate in June 2023 then finished in August 2023. Shortly afterwards I took and passed CompTIA Security +. Then I landed a contractor job as a sys admin. During down time at work, I studied Network +, and I'm currently studying CYSA+. Also, I've been working on completing THM SOC level 1 path. After 5 months as a System Administrator, an opportunity appeard to join my company's SOC team. I'm excited to get my feet wet in cybersecurity as a SOC analyst!

Thanks as usual for your wisdom, UnixGuy. Your transparency is inspiring. I've stopped studying for the past month cause I got quite overwhelmed by the fact there are many things to do and achieve (certificates or do this or that course), that simply places you on a spot where you don't even know where to begin and at the end leading to not finishing anything at all. Organizing yourself on what you want to achieve and pursuing a goal has to be a must, get your foundational knowledge straight, get your certs, start applying, practice while doing interviews until you make, that's it, period. Thanks again.

@user-xu5yd5ll8n it's only true if you take test to get as many credits as possible before applying to WGU. They allow you to take classes at certain sites before applying and the credits will transfer. Keep in mind WGU does things differently from other collages, I think they give you 6 months to get as many credits as possible for a fee but double check because it might have changed. Idk how credibly WGU is. Honestly, you can probably get a decent job just dont expect to get hired by the NSA lol. Also learning cyber security threw an online degree is going to be very difficult especially if you have no experience. Also WGU also has a 46% drop out rate which is one of the highest of all schools because you literally have to teach yourself everything which isn't easy.

There are certain times where I feel like I am learning absolutely nothing. Is it good to know I like your client, if one way fails me, I'm not stupid and there are other ways to expand my skills. Thank you again. My first instinct was correct. Checking off the right answer or series of answers in some boxes I'm learning a bunch of verbiage doesn't get you a job. Proper application of the skills you learn and master is what does it, especially for a beginner.

I graduated Junior college way back in 2002. I have an associates of science degree which ended up serving me no purpose due to health challenges.. now that's most of that behind me, I am simply determined to have useful knowledge,, not just some fancy piece of paper that is outdated before I even get started . At least now I know that having a fancy degree or certification doesn't mean anything unless you really can execute the skills to back it up. And generally speaking, about myself, it may take me longer than most sometimes, but the one thing I don't do is quit on education. I really do owe you a huge debt of gratitude for showing me at least two alternatives to continue to genuinely educate myself while learning skills that are immediately applicable to any position.

I’m an undergraduate in my third and final year at my colleges cyber security program. Like you explained in the beginning of the video, I’m also a little nervous to get out into the field because 1. I don’t have any certifications on hand, they didn’t do any during the time. 2. I’ve had no summer placement opportunities aligned for me 3. It’s been really hard finding an employer that is looking for “entry level”. I’m currently working on a final project to finish my program.
