VIDEO ADDENDUMS:
Originally this video also touched on 'noneuclidean gemotery' games, which is games built around 'impossible spaces' such as turning a corner and finding a new room overlapping where a previous room/wall should be. I think this is also an interesting unconventional mechanic, one that translates well into VR, but right now there are very few fleshed out examples of it. Shattered Lights, Spellboud Spire, and Hyperbolica are really promising demos of the idea but at the moment but they are very short, so it was hard to fit it into a script which is already all about a certain mechanic (sound/physics). I will probably make a part 2 to this video in the future, part of which will include these games. Right now, i'm a little tired of wearing a headset all day! So the next video's gonna be non-vr.

'FUNKe Study' is a series of reviews, sometimes quickfire and sometimes longform typically centered around unorthodox/novel media that I find worth highlighting. They started off on my second channel but now they're here on FUNKe, and while i'm still carving out the formula for these videos I expect them to continue to use mixed media/animation in conjunction with my normal gameplay/commentary style.

The plush campaign's officially over! For the sake of pacing i'll be leaving the video promo-reads uncut, and because I still think they're funny. If you didn't manage to get one, there will be a handful of times I give out free plushes that I ordered extra myself. When those happen you'll hear about it in my community tab, in my discord, on my stream or possibly in a video- basically i'll make it obvious when i'm giving some out. ..And for those who got one, I extend a genuine grateful thanks. I've only been able to run this type of merch recently due to my channel's growth, and the general reception to these more animated videos. I expected to sell a few hundred, and just scrape the minimum requirement, but it ended on probably 4x that number. It means a lot, and since you've seen my upload schedule you may understand that it goes a long way for me getting that support line. See you in the next upload!

2:03 sadly many devs NEED to shove that OPTIONAL warning for games that support flatscreen and VR mode into your face, because showing VR support in your game on Steam has shown to actually REDUCE sales, because most think that VR is required... One indie dev had to go so far as to remove VR support completely, because the game sales were going down so much and it was starting to have the "image" of a VR only title in social media.

I’ve found a little genre that I “player interaction campaigns”. These games can feel like a good open world campaign but it’s actually a multiplayer game where instead of ai, you have 10-100 real people. The interesting part is that it’s not forced on you like Gmod CW RP how forces you into a specific story that you usually can’t change. Heck, most of the time you don’t even need to RP. You create the story pretty naturally and that’s one main reason it’s really fun. So far I know of 2 games in this genre. SCP Secret Laboratory and Space Station 13. Yes I know that 2 games are barely any for a genre but I bet there are more out there that most just don’t know about. It just feels real if you understand what I mean. Here are the parts that I think make up this genre. 1. The world has to be kickstarted by something not controllable by players, but after that it’ll be driven completely by player interactions. It may be kickstarted again later if things are cooler but the round hasn’t ended. 2. Everyone that doesn’t have a “bad guy” job has a job that when done well, helps everyone else. Everyone is one cog in a machine and when one part fails, the rest start failing too. Even combat roles are support as they are not exactly required to survive and are supposed to just protect others from harm. 3. Rounds last a long amount of time. Around 20-300 minutes. This means that people have enough time to really get invested with the round and create a story.

Barotrauma can be somewhat like what you describe. Every player has a role in the submarine. The only objective is to get froms station A to B while fulfilling some quest in the meantime (so you can earn some money to pay for fuel, and maybe get some upgrades); on the way there, players are met with obstacles like hostile flora and deep sea creatures to make sure it's not too smooth of a ride.

I think I know of a game that fits this, it's called ECO. 1. The multiplayer game opens with the same event outside the players control. 2. Everyone involved has to pick a role that benefits each other the most and if there's enough people, more than one person can pick the same role. 3. Each game lasts one real life month, it might seem a lot of time, but... it's just enough, if you do well.

The FUNKe experience is super meta, its like watching a retired veteran that remembers the old days of quality KZread content but has seen the decline of the site into the number farm it is now, and is aloof almost pissed about it all but still hangs on to quality of the craft. Now that ur on vr content, would def recommend making a video on vr games with actually good locomotion, bc so many vr games give you literally 2 options, being stick or teleport. Very few games actually try to build movement into the game itself. 2 I can think of off the top of my head is gorilla tag and echo vr. Both games are also just worth checking out. V fun

If we're on the topic of locomotion, there's a few games I might throw into the ring. Gunraiders has the "Black Ops 3 Movement" system with gliding and a jetpack, which is simpler, but the upcoming Zenith MMO is apparently going to have ziplining and all this cool stuff to make yourself nauseous with. It might just be a husk of what could be, but I'll find that out and report back in a week or two, lol

One of the nicher VR titles I’ve seen that attempts to innovate on movement is “The Under Presents” from the creators of Virtual Virtual Reality. It has standard dual analogue movement but there’s also this form of moving that pulls the environment to you instead of moving you through the environment. It’s like grabbing and pulling a rope, the space distorts towards you in this really unique way and instead of moving from point A to point B, point B is moved to you at point A. I’ve heard a lot of people talk about how this “scrunching” locomotion method is great for dealing with motion sickness. While I personally don’t get motion sick with VR very often, I can totally understand why folks like this form of locomotion. Not only is it justified within the universe of the game itself it’s just such a cool effect to see in VR. Even though I understand it’s hard to fit a mechanic like this into a game it wasn’t made for, I’d love to see other VR games attempt a similar locomotion system in the future. Or at least, take a similar approach to innovating on VR locomotion.
