Unconventional But Effective Therapy for Alzheimer's Treatment: Dr. Mary T. Newport at TEDxUSF

Note from TED: We've flagged this talk, which was filmed at an independent TEDx event, because it appears to fall outside TEDx's curatorial guidelines. As she notes in the talk, Dr. Newport's specific medical guidance is based on ongoing research that has not yet been reviewed or published. The guidelines we give our TEDx organizers are described in more detail here:
storage.ted.com/tedx/manuals/t...
__________________________
When Dr. Newport's husband Steven was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's, as a Doctor herself, she explored routine treatment options. But when his symptoms became so severe that he was not able to participate in clinical trials, her scientific deductions led to coconut oil, which has led to amazing results.
Mary T. Newport, M.D. grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was educated at Xavier University and University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. She is board certified in pediatrics and neonatology, training at Children's Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, and Medical University Hospital in Charleston, SC. She is founding director of the newborn intensive care unit at Spring Hill Regional Hospital, practicing full-time through All Children's Specialty Physicians and volunteer clinical faculty at University of South Florida. She was also founding director of the neonatal intensive Care unit at Mease Hospital Dunedin.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

This is fascinating . It’s made me think about something and everything the doctor says make sense. I come from Fiji . In the pacific islands , we cook with alot of coconut . Usually the coconut is grated and the juice extracted from the scrapings - coconut milk or coconut cream . This is used a lot in our food . If what the Doctor is saying it correct , then I can vouch for it as I don’t ever recall anyone ever diagnosed with Dementia . It goes hand in hand with the great social networks we all have with each other . The elderly are respected and included in everything . Great video .

Huh? She's not challenging any "medical monopoly." The "medical monopoly" is required ro use clinical trials, which are slow and expensive and highly regulated, to be able to manufacture and distribute the drugs in the US. She didn't say anything to say negative about "medical monopoly." In fact, she encourages those to use MCTs while waiting to enroll in an official RCT or while anticipating the release of drugs manufactured by the major pharmaceutical companies.

Prof Chris Exley proved in a small trial the silica rich mineral waters such as Spritzer, Volvic & Fiji mineral waters also stopped & reversed Alzheimer's. The study was censored from public knowledge. These mineral waters bind to aluminium / aluminum in the body & brain & remove it via the kidneys. These mineral waters also helped people suffering with MS. MS patients have a high body burden of aluminium & these mineral waters were removing lots of aluminium from their bodies & healing them. Seems many people have a genetic predisposition to not be able to detoxify aluminium / aluminum from their bodies.

The date is December of 21 when I stumbled on this Utube and we are now fighting Covid 19:and it variations. The government controlled by the Pharmaceutical industry with the supposed vaccines is their only solution. Many of us are skeptical of the problems with the “vaccines” and the cure is maybe worse than the disease. Incredible! I’m October 2017 I started the keto diet at age 51 at which time I had noticed that memory ability was not as it used to be, GOD blessed me with the ability to remember peoples names like no other. When I started keto, I used coconut oil in just about everything & my memory improved exponentially, basically back to my normal ways. About a year ago I started using more avocado oil instead of coconut oil and the memory issues began surfacing. Then this past weekend I just decided to use coconut oil again & today has been a big turn in memory again. That’s it, I’m sticking to coconut oil for life, literally!

I worked with Alzheimer’s patients in my early twenties (now in my early fifties) when it was a brand new field of care. I realized my memory was very similar and wondering if having Covid had set off an Alzheimer’s type bomb in my brain. I took my first 7 teaspoons of coconut oil this morning after watching Dr. Newport’s Ted talk. I am hoping and praying this will have a positive impact. Thank you Dr. Newport!

I know that’s what triggered his Lewy body Dementia because he became psychotic within 36 hours of getting his shot. I would give anything to be able to go back and change what he did, but it’s too late. By the way, an alternative doctor that I know has told me that to avoid Covid to take 50 mg of zinc every day along with half a dropper full of a liquid vitamin D. The brand he recommended is called RxLiquiD3. He said it’s the only brand that raised his patients’ vitamin D levels. I started doing that for myself and for my husband toward the beginning of Covid and although my husband died from it, Covid didn’t really kill him, it just made his Parkinson’s worse. I kissed him on the lips three times after he was diagnosed positive with Covid and I did not catch it even though I’m not in great health. I think the vitamin D and the zinc really do work. It would be interesting to see the rates of altzheimers among populations who eat coconut oil as part of their diet, like the Pacific Islanders.

No amount of coconut oil (or isolated MCT fats) can compensate for a concurrent high glycemic diet. If you don’t regulate the latter, MCT fats won’t tilt the balance sufficiently. I mention this because Pacific Islanders have the same terrible diet as us. Obesity may even be more prevalent there.

I've also started my dad on coconut oil again. I lost my Mother to Alzhemier's disease. It's a terrible illness, one loses their loved one twice. There are no real effective, long last treatments for Alzheimers and other forms of dementia. We have nothing to lose by trying coconut oil. I'm grateful for Dr. Newport for providing this information. Thank you, Mary Newport.

How old is your father? My grandmother is 75 years old she has had Alzhemiers for about 5 years, maybe? She is currently living in a home with other grandparents . Last time I saw her she looked sleepless :( I am trying to see what can I do to help her. She lost her emotion as to reacting in some situtions but she still cries randomly I am guessing it has to do with depression. She doesn't speak anymore , can't use the bathroom on her own or even eat on her on but She is still walking. About 3 months ago for her 75th birthday she was still laughing and looked healthy. But everything as change in such a small amount of time.I want to start giving her coconut oil every time I visit her . Do you give him the pure coconut oil, should I do a soup and add coconut oil?

YourGlamorousLatina you should not only focus on "coconut oil." I feel the message she wanted to get across is that your brain does not get powered with only glucose, but also ketones, and hence, the reason for taking coconut oil(because it generates ketones). I can provide more info if you are willing to take another step towards this. Just like you, I am also looking to deal with this godamn disease. Message me if you want to know more, and maybe by sharing info we can help each other...several of the symptoms you talked about are symptoms of alzheimers(inability to sleep, depression, etc)

It would br great to hear an update on how this ladies husband is now in 2022, if this protocol was continued to date. I'm aware that brain cognition improvements only last for a week once ketone therapy is stopped. This tells us that this approach does not serve to heal the brain but provides only temporary support. Of course, with not much else in the way of a brain healing alternative as yet, this is the best approach. This also highlights how responsive the brain can be even with a progressed stage Alzheimer's. Imagine the results & cognitive improvements when the whole system receives the right focused support over time in the way of creating health & healing damage.

I've been watching Eric Berg's video's (on KZread) who has been recommending the same things you're advocating. I'm 77 years old and my Mother had Alzheimer's so to the say the least I'm concerned about Alzheimer's is an understatement. So I'm a fan of MCT oil & Coconut; GREAT video by the way! I am 57 years old, 5 years ago I started to notice changes in my cognition, word finding issues and aphasia. Now 5 years later I wonder every day what can/will happen to me? Two neurologists later and I am not any where near a diagnosis. I have been diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment and aphasia. Tomorrow, I’m going to the health food store to buy main chain triglycerides and I already have the coconut oil. This is very exciting. I stumbled on this KZread video. I’m so happy to have something I can do now. As you can imagine I’m young for a Alzheimer’s diagnosis, I’m going to try it, like the Dr said, “what do you have to lose”. Absolutely nothing. Thank you Dr for sharing your knowledge!!!!

63 here. My changes started when I was 48. No focus. Insane sleep - no schedule. Poor situational awareness. Memory is bleeding away. Issues with language. Constantly unable to come up with the word(s) that I want ... I stop talking mid sentence because I go blank. I know what I want to express but the words aren't there. It's like they're in a filing cabinet in my head and I lost the key. Now I'm starting to say sounds-like words. It's terrifying. My Mom has Alzheimer's/Dementia. I watched her go through what I'm experiencing now. She's 88 and in the last 2 yrs she lost the ability to walk, talk and write. It's beyond awful. Two of her sisters were the same so I know exactly where I'm headed. Because I don't fit the profile, Doctors ignore me when I talk about it. I'm not at a stage where I'd do poorly on a cognition test so my concerns are either dismissed or never even acknowledged. Accidentally stumbled into this video and suddenly have hope that my kid won't be spoon feeding me in a few yrs. My brain screamed exactly what you wrote. Going out first thing in the morning (it's 2am now) to get MTC and coconut oil. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Good luck to you, Frida!
