Wife gets mad when I buy gear, but when I come home with garbage bags and helium she won’t suspect a thing…

I’m learning things! I love how you show how these techniques are used in movies and stuff and you are able to replicate them at home.

Since I’m already not subscribed to Epic Light Media I think I’ll subscribe to this guy. Only downside is this guy doesn’t know that you have to throw the light off the roof not bounce light off the ceiling. Amateur

Thank you for bringing us to a dp with a British accent. Finally… now I can actually BELIEVE what they’re saying.
That trick of putting a roll of ND on the lightbulb is incredible. I can't believe I hadn't thought of that before!
@KAS6119

Where can I get the roll of ND?
Well done. Love the look of these shots.
Falcon eyes are so underated such a good cheap Flexi light
The way you embody these techniques you're teaching is incredible. We can feel everything's coming from your actual experience which is not to be taken for granted on KZread. Keep going 👏👏
I love your tutorials. There's no BS, just real with a sense of humour, nothing short of being informative. Hope to see more. Thank you for sharing!
This is everything I pretty much needed to learn about lighting! Making it more dynamic, moody and real. Thank you so much.
This definitely deserves more views. It is so much more interesting and helpful than so many other filmmaking tutorial videos.
Love these vids. I find it tough to find good practical lighting tips and breakdowns on KZread outside of wandering dp. Especially from people actually working in the industry. Loved the 16mm videos too. Keep it up!
Dude, please keep going. This is a fantastic resource and you are very talented at keeping your information short and concise. Appreciate you man.
Not only I loved how you shared this precious information but also I'm so much into your cool attitude. I wish I could work with a cinematographer like you.
First video of your's I've seen and can honestly say love this format man. You nail everything spot on of how you do your breakdowns with dope examples. Also great to see actual working cinematographers more on YT making dope content, insta-subscribed.
By far I have learned more with your setup behind scenes that I have from my education of 4 years in film and tv production. Wow! Thank you and do more of this. It’s great too learn from you 🙏
I love this. The expertise that is brought to the table is perfectly balanced with an authentic human tone.
Love the helium trash bag idea. Did the opposite once for a night shoot where we filled a 20 ft weather balloon with air and hoisted it over trees to use as a bounce source for moon light and it came out great.
This channel is such a gem. Thoughtful, helpful, and entertaining. Not only that, there’s a palpable sense of fun, artistry, and craft in the edits. It’s people like you that make this place special. Thanks for sharing your knowledge so freely.
the hard light mixed with soft light 100% sells it, will try it for sure. congrats on the tutorial, keep up!
quick and straight to the point infos that I'll put into practice when I'll get the occasion.
I love these advanced lighting tools. Please keep doing more.
Definitely need more of these! 🔥🔥🔥🔥

So good to see a fellow Aussie creating tutorial content! Hi from central Queensland!
Thanks for the calm presentation of these helpful tips!
neat tricks. gorgeous examples. few words. relaxing voice. that's it. simply quality.
This was so interesting man, loved the shot of the family eating and the hard light into the table. So nice! Would like to see more of this kind of content. Thanks!
Seriously Lewis, your content is such high quality and informative. It brings new ideas I (ashamedly) couldn't get by myself! Thanks you from the bottom of my heart for making me, a simple hobbyist that love nice lighting and want to do the same, more confident in how I need to approach my lighting. Take care!

wow. the level of this video is mind blowing. not just the tips but the whole construction. from the music video to the commercial setup, to you , back to holywood.
This series is pure gold.
One of the first big commercials I worked on as a PA slash kinda sorta Grip, was using Visqueen and filling those up with Helium to do the exact same thing you show at the end. The shot was a full 360 shot on Steadicam around this country club room with the main character dancing, so all the lighting had to be rigged above. Our DP loves to do soft lighting, but no real places to rig cutters above, so his solution was filling helium and creating Visqueen balloons. It was dope as hell to see done.
Im shooting a day scene tomorrow and the effect of the hard light you pointed out will really elevate it
Love the content, Lewis! Something I tend to do when mixing hard and soft light is to just roll out some frost just out of frame to soften the hard light on a specific area (i.e. face), the transition looks very natural too. It works surprising well, it's super quick to set up and it doesn't reduce contrast by lifting the shadows on the areas hit directly by hard light which is something you might struggle with when introducing another source. I also use this trick a lot when jumping from wide shots to close ups. Still love the way the light wraps around the subject's face in your setup!

Yeah that always works well. When you adjust the diff over the talent between the wide and close up, do you increase the brightness of the key so that the level on the talent matches across all the shots? Been wondering whether I should do that for consistency
I can't wait to see how your channel grows. true cine in the game!
Excellent lighting techniques. So effective, yet simple in construction. Thank you!
love your videos, mate. thanks so much for this brilliant content. so many great ideas.
Wow your approach to teaching is just great, drama free, direct and practical. Thanks.
Thank you so much mate for sharing, little things to be paid attention to but end results are awesome.
Dude, I love your approach to problem-solving. Thank you for sharing!
oh, man, thank you for the value and vibe!
Dude, super great tips. I'll definitely be playing with these. It seems obvious now, but I work with myself mostly and have never considered buying ND and other coloured gels for windows. Also, I really loved the logic of allowing hard light to hit the subject but flagging it off of their faces and filling that with soft light. Super practical and makes total sense!! Thanks again.
this was so calming
I’ve learned more from channels like yours than I did from school. Here’s to your success
