One thing that unlocked my shot variability was understanding that "wide" doesn't always mean "wide lens", and that each shot intentionally has a specific part in the story, in the way it is captured can tell the story completely different than another.

Great video, super informative and i feel like i could reflect on alot of those shot in different films ive seen and recall why they showed up at that point in the narrative. One question i do have is about the close ups, why are they typically done at around 80mm as you said? My guess is that zooms can have a more flattering effect on the intimate features on body or face. Thanks for great content!

In my eyes, all shots should have a reason to exist and should most often be long shots. Long shots helps the audience connect the characters with the setting and allows us to feel like a real person watching these characters. I don’t enjoy constant use of rack focus, over the shoulder shots because it takes us out of reality, holding us at gun point to pay attention only to what the characters are discussing. Sometimes it is effective, but a simple LS or FS with a group of characters talking (in one shot) just feels more satisfying to look at.

maybe video is great, I don't know, I couldn't watch it after 30 seconds of this same transition effect and sound effect from shutter, and also angle of the camera pointing at the speaker is like you looking through the camera that about to fall backward, and stop moving your hand left and right, since you position yourself in the center, that composition supposed to draw attention to you and keep the focus, you swinging your hand every five second to left and right, changing frames to fast and using same effect through the video, and same sound effect made a impossible to watch the video. I would understand if you used different transition depending on the shot from the movie and used different effects for diffent mood and explained, would be better. But video looks like just bunch of cuts copy pasted and same as transition effects, just with click bait thumbnail.

who the f call it a full shot or cowboy shot. every book in all film institute calls it EXL(EXTREME LONG SHOT), L.S. (LONG SHOT) , M,LS, (MID LONG SHOT), M.S. (MID SHOT), MCS (MID CLOSE SHOT), C.S. (CLOSE SHOT), E.X.C. (EXTREME CLOSE SHOT). Every long shot or EXL can be wide shot, if its taken with a wide lens. establishing shot does always have to be wide, it just needs to establish the location. CLS of objects or hands etc are called Insets the rest of the video is correct
