I like big spaces too. Look for Chad Zuber. His primitive hut is so small that he cannot stand up inside of it.

I totally agree! I was just about to say almost the same thing, When i saw your comment! I'm late to this video, but if I miss one from any of the few guys I follow I like to get caught up, and yes his is so nice and big, and bright when he wants it to be. I would love to have a spot like this of my own. Big enough for me & my dog and cat. Lol. The only difference I would make for mine is I could not sleep on the hard board for very long. I would have to make a thick cushion, with some nice throw pillows. I would probably buy a thick foam "egg crate" mattress cover, and cut it in strips to layer one piece upon another, and sew a cover around it. That would be my comfort away from home! But I'm a woman, so that's why I think of things like that. It's mostly men that have these places, and they don't mind sleeping on the hard bench! But I will say I saw a more recent video of his and he did take up the thin mat and put down a nice probably 2" piece of sturdy foam and cut it to fit perfectly on the bench! It looks like it feels much more comfortable. 😊

Your dugout is my favorite of all the ones I have seen on KZread. Yours is the cleanest too. I like that you have a door that closes over the stairs. It’s more protection from heavy rain, so you don’t get flooded out. Take care and thank you for sharing your dugout living with us.

What is the coldest you have endured so far in this very private home/shelter. Can you use snow after sterilizing for drinking. Of course, for sanitary reasons, you must have to go outside. During WWII, in Normandie in the farm, there were no running indoor water, we had a spring which had been tested on a regular basis. We cleaned ourselves with respect and privacy, taking turn, boys first than girl. The water was heated in a huge copper pan which was solid black, with a crust. Water was almost like gold, bathroom necessities were very clean and so were our clothes, we hang then on the back of the chairs close enough to the cheminée! We changed our underwear each day, rotating them, we did not had many. Everything had to last. Sunday we went to church with our Sunday attires. We wash our hear weakly not daily like today. Water was precious and used carefully, girls had to have long hair. During the war, there were several hair lives epidemics, so we knew how to keep ourselves very clean and our bedding and linens. Our sheets were rotating weekly, so the top sheet would become le lower one and vice versa. The bedding as always hanged daily at the bedroom window wide open to "change the air", as we would say. We had to stay healthy and clean to survive. Sometimes we would walk to school back the same, staying out of site in tiny little pass in woods or fields, major roads were too dangerous. After the war, we kept some of these routines because it was rationed and we had to feel safe. Night time were scary, no police for awhile, so everything had to be locked up. The horses and all the animals were in as safe as possible inside of the barn, everything tightly locked. Many French people were stealing from one another and sometimes worse. No telephone yet! Radios were must becoming to get on the market, it was the only way to get accurate information, for a long time... into the fifty. Walking to and from school had to be swift and in group when ever possible. It was a dangerous time, but we kept on going, and looking after each other. Street light were not resistant infill much later, now we have too many! Ha...ha...! Too many people, stay safe, bonne nuit!!! I though, I would entertain you while you were away from home.

The hard times sure do make you appreciate the good times. I think the reason these type of videos are so popular is because life can get so hectic and stressful that we yearn for simpler times, without having a war of course. Most of us haven't had to deal with the hardships, at least not to the extent you did. Thank you for sharing!

That is an awesome winter hid away, Great job man ! I see your stove smokes back a little when you open the door, it should make it better if you had 2 or 3 feet of pipe above ground it would draw better :) quiet peaceful & warm ,

Where are you getting your food? Do you have a freezing place you kept it all in? Sorry, this is another question, where do you go to the bathroom? Love, love, love your nest - you are so neat and tidy we all could learn lots from you. Fantastic! Thank you for sharing!!!
