Oh yeah, I am of the belief that all of the infantry EXCEPT FLAMETHROWERS have places in the battlefield. Riflemen/Minigunners: Cannon Fodder which are VERY good at attracting fire from vehicles (which do LESS damage to them with their guns and thus, nessecitate running them down) and Obelisk of Nod (Adv. Guard Towers chew them up quickly) Rocket Infantry: Fuck yo vehicles! Grenadier: Good damage on Infantry and ground vehicles, decent against buildings too but watch for splash damage. Engineer: Nice building, it's mine now. Flamethrower: slow as fuck and only good for setting my men on fire! Chem throwers: Superior Flamethrowers Commando: Fuck Infantry forever and kaboom! Also Minigunners are the perfect immediate 'GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM MY BASE ENGINEERS!' button.

To my knowledge as I didn't Play C&C3, Red Alert 3, and Tiberian Twighlight; China is only in Generals, the other games are focused on central Europe/Africa (Tiberian Dawn), Europe (Red Alert), South western US to Panama/Europe/Africa (Tiberian Sun), US including Hawaii/Cuba/Yucuhtan/Europe/Russia (Red Alert 2), Antarctica/The Moon/Northern Africa (Yuri's Revenge)

To my knowledge, only General and its sequel was banned (they got quite active Red Alert community there), because, despite putting China in better light than most western media did, it get practically every aspect of China wrong. For example, telling a Chinese that their standard infantry is called "Red Guard" is pretty much the same as telling a German their standard infantry is called "Schutzstaffel".

@@Cythil More likely they are wearing a suit designed to give them some survivability against the Tiberium. They are Tiberium Harvester drivers after all, if there is an accident they need to be able to get out of the Tiberium field to report back to base. The fact they look the same as the Nod drivers, with Nod being the one to figure out Tiberium harvesting first, shows that they are in uniform in a work suit.

Well, technically it was mostly the Dune II RTS. Then Warcraft 1, then Tiberian Dawn. Dawn and Warcraft 2 were the ones that started the age of RTS.

He also cheated his way through the campaign by abusing bugs, the last mission must have taken eons. I don't think he realises Nod has a harder campaign mission 11 is really fucking hard and funnily enough it's the mission you use GDI units, their units are worse (for singleplayer anyway). I think it's not even close to the hardest C&C campaign (Tiberian Sun and RA 2 had the hardest), but if you turtle up the resources run out and you have to start using cheese strats.

@@sathra4036 Dune II didn't do any of those kinds of missions though; Dune II is ONLY; build base, wipe out enemy base, and that's it. Warcraft brought some things, but it too is the RTS too old to bring any of these innovations. Tiberian Dawn though; that's the game that put its stamp onto the RTS genre; Dune II is the grand daddy; Tiberian Dawn is the RTS father.

Warcraft 1 did have some variation in its mission types; missions where you had to fight through dungeons, often to kill/rescue one special character, missions where you had to destroy the enemy base but keep one building standing, but overall, in Warcraft 1, dungeon missions generally had you take on absolutely everything on the map before you got to the target, meaning they still felt like "sweep and destroy everything" missions, and not like sneaking around to get to your target, like what C&C 1's commando missions introduced. In C&C 1, capturing specific structures would also be done by taking them over with an engineer, and would immediately end the mission, regardless of the remaining situation, whereas in Warcraft the very method of 'capturing' was to destroy everything else, so the remaining building was isolated and secured.

Not a loss, I played both, and fashions myself a stragedy gamer, but while we loved the experience of the early rts games, they were really bad on any aspect outside of dicking around. The control schemes were off and not something you could alter. In some you could I know, but really, there were control delays and pathing being wonky, the tripple A experience back then was simply phenominal when compared.

Oh, and you can lose your harvesters to worms if you don't baby sit them.

You could kill a 51% full harvester and get like 4 full harvested loads out of the resulting spice spread over the sand though :p Also, little known fact: sandworms only eat 3 things and then vanish. Feed them 3 infantry and you're set ;)

You can tell this is someone's fist time playing tibdawn when its their first time encountering the AI being ridiculously unfair :P RA is alot more forgiving, thankfully. ;~;

Rimmy you played the final mission EXACTLY as I did when I was first playing this. I recall playing this in 1999/2000 and I got frustrated by how often I'd get balled in by the AI's economy bonus so I'd sandbag in the AI to abuse their stupidity..

Think some of my favorite PC strategy games was Empire at War with expansion, Battle for Middle Earth 2 and my favorite console strategy game was Battalion Wars 1 and 2. Sadly I only got DoW and its Expandalones recently so they didn’t enter my childhood sadly.

@@Soridan Faulty logic, since schizophrenia is a medical condition, and not an invention. To give a counter-example, a cannon isn't a combustion engine. Sure it has combustion, and it makes something move, but that doesn't mean it fits the criteria given to the word "combustion engine" today. Because that meaning was only coined when someone combined the words "combustion" and "engine" to describe something they invented.

Re: the stock wolf howl; the death screams are pretty stock too. I've played this in my youth and I hear those screams somewhere else every once in a while. It's a bit harder to tell with the other sound effects as unique gun sounds and explosions are a bit harder to pick out. Edit: Almost forgot: C&C was on the Playstation? I never knew. I wouldn't have wanted to play an RTS on it, even if you could save, but it's interesting to know they ported it. I wonder how well it did.

Tairneanach also Nintendo 64. My brother rented a war game one day (remember blockbuster video....) and that started my lifelong obsession with CnC... Kane lives.

Looking at the BTS of the Bialystok cutscene, (specifically Kane's bit) you see the takes, it took more than one to get that to such memorable ease of self and violent reaction to a trifle.

When you mentioned "A Fist Full of TOWs" I'm like "That title sounds familiar..." and the picture comes up "By Ty Beard" Yep, that's why. Ty beard is a badass lawyer out of Tyler Texas. He knows his stuff when it comes to realistic war gaming.

@@cericat Because lawyers are (supposed to be) good at defining rules so others can understand them and they are typically aware of how those rules would be exploited. In addition to that; Ty Beard has a passion for history and has been so accurate with his game that even the pentagon uses it when running through war game scenarios.

Didn't he say he played Tiberian Sun? "Kane lives" kind of comes from that one.

@jeremy ray Yeah, I definitely preferred the older versions, (I started playing in like... 5th? I think) but personally I've grown to really not like "I GO U GO" systems, aka one player has his full turn, then the other player has his. It basically leads to constant alpha strikes. I much prefer things like Bolt Action with dynamic activation of the units on either side.

@@RimmyDownunder Did you ever try Halo Fleet Battles? It's not around anymore, company that made it went bankrupt but it had a system where each player could activate one group than the other instead of one player and their entire fleet then the other.

After watching this video, I left to do some studying and pulled up my 200+ song playlist on shuffle. The first song to play was C&C Soviet march and I just started laughing. Thanks Rimmy.

That was great video. I liked the war crime and sandbag bug parts! They show how absurd this game is. Another good thing about this is that it sows that you can enjoy something that is not objectively good.

Why is everyone playing Command and Conquer? They're spending a lot on branding and sponsorships I guess.

This game helped MAKE most of the tropes in the first place. I played this when it first came out, this and DUNE hooked me on RTS's for life.

Rimmy! Tiberan Sun was the game I grew up playing as well, i absolutely love that game to death, I'd love a remaster of it

I fucking love that you realized a lot of bugs and exploits of the game, the refinery capture and the building off sandbags, I used to exploit the shit out of the sandbags as a kid and I loved it.

I would love to see a video on the Nod Campaign. I grew up with this game but it is clear that a lot of lessons were learned in its development and from player feedback, as Red Alert, Tiberian Sun, and Red Alert 2 all vastly improve upon its mechanics.

oh Rimmy, 2/3rds of the NOD campaign are stealth missions XDD yeah, I get why tis shit from your POV, because this has SOOOoooo much catching up to do in terms of UI and timesavers. but I can't help but fall in love with the soundtrack and the raw ham and cheese that is those cutscenes. Also, was perplexed by the GDI campaign ending because in the PSOne version Kane goes up into the ruins of the temple just as the Ion cannon fires and he embraces the light

I loved those games qwq it generals was the first game I've ever played at the age of 4. Such great memories...

Have not bought the remaster yet but this brings back all kinds of warm memories. I hope Red Alert comes with the "it came from red alert" missions.

Great video just remember this was the third RTS ever made so yeah this kind of jenky stuff just comes with that legacy

This makes me want to dig up my copy of Tiberium Sun and give it another go. I didn't play it much, but I remember liking it. Glory to Nod!

6:13 RA2 is my first PC game ever outside gamehouse games... One day my dad came from work and gave me the Disc for RA2 that he got from his friend. Played the shit out of it, and makes me love RTS games ever since.

The games that caught my attention were and still are Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars and Kane's Wrath, i got Tiberium Wars as a birthday present

Actualy, civvies coming out of destroyed base buildings are technicians, and in renegade, which is Tiberian Dawn FPS btw, there are... chefs! They serve people in the canteen in underground section of the Hand of Nod, but will attack you with flamers if you take them away from cooking that bass.

Holding Ctrl+Shift is force move for units, it also allows you to command units to crush infantry by holding those keys and clicking move on the infantry.

Buildings can be constructed off barbed wire, walls, and sandbags in original C&C... but not Red Alert.... it's one of the few ways of spreading out buildings. Also G is for guard, it'll make any unit attack anything that comes within its sight range... useful for making groups of units attack everything instead of manually shooting a single target at a time.

I like this Kane villian already. He knows exactly what buttons to push to manipulate people
