Ultra Running Documentary | Across Florida 200 | FKT Attempt

Спорт

This full-length self-shot documentary follows Mike and Matt as they attempt to set the course record for the Across Florida 200, a 200 mile ultra that takes runners across (and up) Florida utilizing trails, highways, and back country roads. Both of these runners finished their first 100 mile ultra during Long Haul 100 at the beginning of the year, and set their sights on their first 200 miler shortly after. We hope you enjoy the journey, and encourage anyone interested in running this amazing race to reach out with any questions.
UPDATE: Jerome Bareth has the NEW course record with 63:52:00!!! While I was hoping to see our record stand for another year, I'm happy and amazed that it was lowered again! As bittersweet as it is coming in second place, I'm going into 2023 with the goal of taking on the course again at the end of the year and trying again for the record.

Congrats on an awesome accomplishment! Hope you take back the record. I know you’ve ran some Run Bum races in the past, and you may not care (which is totally valid. Everyone has to draw their own line in the sand), but I encourage everyone who may sign up for a Run Bum race to Google “Run Bum Controversy” before spending their money. Whether it’s a deal breaker or not, at least you’ll be informed.

Thank you for watching! I sometimes feel like the most difficult part of a race is making sure I capture footage. It's sometimes hard to take a minute and record a video or get the scenery when you're deep in the pain cave lol.

Congrats on an amazing accomplishment! Breaking a Goggins record is true badassery! And thanks so much for recording and sharing the journey, I really enjoyed it. I can relate a lot to what you shared at the beginning about your battles with alcohol and family concern of time devotion. I'm 13 years sober myself and as I'm sure you've noticed, there are countless recovering addicts of all varieties out on the trails. Personally, I don't think it's possible to remove the addictiveness from our brains, but we can channel that addictive energy into much more positive outlets than our prior vices. Congrats again, and I'm loving catching up on all your race videos!

Awesome job guys! Fantastic video - I set a 194 mile solo self supported fkt last summer - the last day was hot with no water last 25 miles - I was between cramping badly and just missing the fkt. Your experience/video put me right back on the trail. I felt your pain- and feeling when you successfully completed the challenge 😊👍🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️

I kept thinking that phrase during Ocala when we were doing run/walk intervals. I was about to tell Matt I needed to rest, but kept thinking "ok one more...ok one more" each time we did another interval. I realized that while I was miserable, it wasn't getting worse, and I was the same level of miserable each time. I thought "well shit, I guess it doesn't always get worse!" And kept pushing on lol

It is so nice to hear someone else talk about running this way, which I’m sure many do, but you are the first that I’ve heard speak it the way I feel it. Moving my body heals my soul and heals all the old wounds that live inside of me. It keeps me grounded and running has helped me rediscover myself. Thank you for your videos. Doing my first 20 miler this weekend…and then who knows what else!!!!

@@FeetFirstAthletics It's beatable with support crew, navigators and alternating pacers carrying your bags, your water, your food, etc... No caches of water stashed needed. Only stoping for proper sleep and foot care. A good support crew will make a huge difference. When I say it's beatable, I mean it's beatable by YOU, not me. It would take me at least 4 days and with very little sleep.

Planning this run in December 2023. This is the most informative video on this run. I'll be honest, this video also made me nervous. There seems to be so many turns that it would be easy to get lost. Also that night run through the Forrest also seems like it would be easy to go off trail. Ease my mind on that? Or is it as tricky as it looks? Goggins got me running ultras so it was cool to see you get that fkt. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks and congrats!

So the GPX file they provide is excellent, and as long as you have a GPS watch or a Garmin GPS handheld device you should be good. Even a phone is alright, but I lost service in a few areas. The Ocala forest was actually pretty easy. For the most part it was almost impossible to deviate from the trail due to the good markings and few "side trails" to deviate on. We took a wrong side trail once (it was in a section with ATV trails) because we both zoned out, but I was able to lead us back on course buy just following the "side" trail. The race director is also extremely lenient on the route, and believes in "finding your own path". As long as you stay relatively close to the intended route you'll be set. Additionally, if you go to my very poor quality and in work website, you can click on the "Download Detailed Directions" button on the Across Florida section and I have a step by step guide for navigating the course: www.feetfirstathletics.com/

Great video!! QQ: was the run 5 mins/walk 1 min used consistently? I usually shuffle and then kinda do the run/walk, lol. But I've heard to do the run/walk the entire time so that I don't burn out.

  • @FeetFirstAthletics

I usually run until I have to stop, around 20 to 30 miles then do some form of run walk. However, on this race we did 5:1 right from the beginning and it felt awesome, I highly recommend it. The first time we stopped for an extended time was at 29 to get some food then we were right back to it. We dropped to 3:1, and then 2:1 toward night number one, then picked it back up with 5:1 at the start of day 2. Just any way we could to keep moving and make good time. Ocala (mile 95) is where we started to walk the vast majority of the time due to fatigue.

Right at this moment there is a couple who are attempting this. They're currently at mile 64 with 15hrs in. So far they're 2 hours ahead of your record! Can they beat your record? We have yet to see that. Fascinating. You said at the end of your video that if someone beats your record that you will party with them...

We're all following very closely in a group chat and communicating with them! KC just dropped, but Jerome is pushing on and he's at about mile 83. He's about equal with our pace now but KC mentioned she was slowing him down (hurt knee), so he may start moving quickly again!
