My time in Tehran, Iran continued with an all-out food tour of the capital. Join me as I go on the ultimate Persian food tour of Tehran, Iran!
My buddy Mr. Taster was taking me on an incredible lunch tour with our friends from Kootook Travel. We’d be having lamb shanks, shish kebabs, and so much more! I couldn’t wait!

Inside our first restaurant, it was like a fancy banquet hall. They say they have the best lamb shank around! Then, as is traditional, they brought us some Iranian tea and sweets!
In the kitchen, we watch ed them grill the lamb shanks, lamb chops, and loghmeh, a type of traditional Iranian kebab made from lamb. It’s bigger than kubideh! They were also grilling tomatoes. The meat looked so juicy!
The lamb shanks were cooking in their own fat, and looked unreal! Upstairs, they have a luxurious dining hall with opulent walls, tables, and chairs, but we’d be eating downstairs with everyone else!
We had everything with rice with barberries and saffron. Mr. Taster broke open an egg and poured out the egg whites. Then, he poured the yolk in started with the rice!
The rice was unbelievable, while the lamb chops blew my mind. The combination of the two was unreal! I loved the way the egg glued the rice together, and the rice was so tender and juicy.
With the rice, the loghmeh was also incredible. The tahchin had a crispy layer on top, and the saffron flavor was excellent! The lamb shank was huge and so juicy and fatty, it literally melted as I chewed it!
It also had a sweetness to it, and the marrow inside the bone was so tasty. The combination of meat, rice, and caramelized onions was a winner!
Then, we left and drove 20 minutes to our second restaurant, which almost reminded me of a Greek tavern. It had lots of beautiful painting on the walls. We watched them cook a stew called dizi with tomatoes, lamb, chickpeas, and bean in tiny pots. It slow cooks for 4 hours!
Our Shirazi salad contained tomatoes, cucumber, onions, and mint. Then, they brought the dizi. They take the lamb fat into your bowl and mash it.
Then, they mash the beans, chickpeas, meat, and potatoes into a puree. I tried mixing it myself with the pestle. It smelled amazing! Then, you crumble your sangak bread into it and add the broth!
We also had greens, onions, pickled onions, pickled chilies, and more to eat with it. I loved the fatty dizi with the greens and sangak bread. Adding pickled chilies made it spicy but gave it an amazing flavor. I also liked it with pickled onion, which was potent!
Next, I tried a yogurt drink called doogh, which was sour and a bit thin. Next, I ate the mash with the sangak. They sprinkled cinnamon on top, which was amazing!
We followed it with Persian tea and bamieh, a traditional sweet that’s basically a small, crispy ball of dough soaked in sugar syrup.
Our final stop was Sahand Restaurant, where we watched them make kebabs and chicken marinated in saffron. The kebabs were made of chopped beef topped with a layer of minced lamb, put in the cage, topped with onion juice, and grilled.
They also made a koobideh polow, a dish made of rice, chunks of koobideh, grilled tomatoes, sumac, and butter all mixed together. Once everything is added to the pan, you cover it and shake it up to mix it! The also added chilies and then made a cherry polow with lamb neck!
The cherry polow was juicy and tart, and I loved the meatiness. Next was the koobideh polow, which was the tastiest, meatiest polow ever! It was also super moist from the butter and tomatoes!
Finally, we finished with the kebab and some butter rice, tomato, and chili! I loved the smokiness, the butteriness. It was astounding!

Pilau, pilaf , pulao all invented in Persia (Iran) and later spread to the Indian subcontinent with variations in the recipe .Here in India we call it Pulao (Northern India & Pakistan) and Polau ( in West Bengal-India and Bangladesh )

Omg the VIP room in that restaurant was amazing! The lamb chops, and all the meats were so awesome and great hospitality as well.

I believe you when you say this is the BEST FOOD IN THE WORLD!!! kabobs, lamb shanks, lamp chops, basmati rice!!!! This is a beautiful beautiful restaurant!!!👑 We will go to Iran only to have these foods! SO DELICIOUS!!! There deserts, sweets, fruits are sweet and organic. Iranian people are so nice and down to earth! They welcome you with open arms! I love love iranian people!!! Mr. Taster is a sweetheart!!! 🤗😘💖🌹

Mr. Taster is an icon of Iran and way to promote Iranian food, culture and traditions to the outside world. He is very generous man and has hosted a number of foodie from around the world. He is a very funny, lovely and jolly man and his way of presentation is unique.

I like that everything is so clean and uncomplicated. Some American "chefs" can be so demanding at times and these guys are so cool and that's why I call them "cooks". It's like being at home. That lamb shank reminds me of the feast in the movies when they pick up the huge leg to eat. WOW!!! Although I am not the one eating the food, by the time this series is done, I would have gained a lot of weight by just watching 🤣🤣🤣🇹🇹🇨🇦

No Judy I am sorry to say our country's ships can be down right nasty that's why you got to be careful of what you say and even how you treat the waitresses cuz you don't know what's going on in the kitchen that we can't see that's why I like the restaurants that have they open area where the chefs are cooking and you could see what is going on I don't know what their problem is but they need to check themselves I see these videos and all the Asian countries are willing to give you what you want add more and treat you like a long lost relative and that's important for us Judy because a lot of times we need that tender Care from a dinner lunch whatever that we are paying for enjoy

That's why I don't like restaurant dining. I like an open area as well where you can see what's going on. I think some chefs, because they are called "chefs" think they are better than the common cook. So in a way, we agree.🇹🇹🇨🇦

I live in Phoenix, AZ in the USA. Most of the food here is disappointing, except for the Mexican food, which is phenomenal. I haven't really found any good middle eastern food out here.

Amazing, As Iranian I really missed these foods and amazing places and one of the old rich culture in the World, I suggest you go to Shiraz city my town and try foods like kalampolo and the see the historical places like Cyrus the great, have fun bro

Bro you killed me I haven't visit Iran for 20years and I miss it specially shandiz Jordan was awesome since 20 some years ago we went there .number 1in the world . Every thing in iranian version in ranked 1in the world .rice .safferon .Burberry .sour Chery .pestachue even lamb .like Persian rise is 1$for a killo out of Iran but best basmaty rice is like 3$and and so Iran with around 11000years of history is a must time see a real culture and best hospitality you can ever see .

Those guys are real cooks, not chefs. That is real food. Laughed throughout this one as well. And I got up real early for this one too. Was worth it. As a Persian watching this from abroad , This is super luxury restaurant (Shandiz), the affordability for this restaurant is like if you can afford a 150K to 200K car. The rest is ok and it sits in the affordability range of all people.

Persian Food looks so mouth watering. Really impressed by the preparation and care each dish . Beautiful restaurant. Lamb Shank yummy. Tea and sweets those look nice though cannot eat too much , so very sweet. Rice and lamb the eyeroll says it right there. heaven on a plate hummhumm. My mouth is literally watering watching you eat that lamb shank lol. Yummy. That’s the best part. We make the rice super hot so the egg gets cooked there. However, we also trust the egg. I’ve had that dish more than 100 times nothing happens.
