The reason his 0-60 time is off and that he couldn’t beat the BMW is that he’s keeping the revs too low, as if the Bullitt is an old school, low rev/high torque muscle car. In fact, this car is a screaming beastly cam monster between about 5500 and its 7400 redline, making its peak power at 7000 rpm. To quote Car and Driver: “Rev the 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt to its 7400-rpm redline or you’ll not be fully indulging the Bullitt experience. Sure, it sounds good at 4000 rpm, chortling out an unmistakable V-8 purr. By 5500-about 1000 rpm past its torque peak-it’s coming on song and making real yank. But it’s in the upper reaches, beyond 6000 rpm, that this latest version of the Coyote 5.0-liter V-8 is alive, shrieking an all-American opus that encourages repeating. So we repeated.” He should have been holding it in first gear at 6000 rpm when buddy pulled up beside him then floored it. Would have left the Beemer in his dust.

The problem also is that if your rolling at say 30MPH in second and your used to driving an automatic, you have the habit of just slamming the pedal. Not going to work with a standard as it will bog down, which exactly what happened here.

Hi i'm a bit late to the party! I am a old geezer now at 59, and watching the king of cool drive that GT390 in the film Bullitt as a little kid made such an impression on me, i am Steve McQueen mad, i even make pewter busts of Frank Bullitt, i have been saving for years to get enough scratch to buy this car, i missed the 2008 Bullitt, i now have had to buy a low mileage used Bullitt, i have found it sluggish at low revs, its a big heavy engine, large heavy flywheel and crank, torque comes in at 4000rpm, 3rd gear i use for maximum torque, forget any tuning it won't make much difference, i have just fitted a Whipple supercharger giving me around 760hp at the wheels not the crank, this makes up for those sluggish flat spots at lower revs and makes up for the long ratio gearbox, the Coyote engine needs to be revved out to 7000rpm, whoever has the S550 Stang fit a Whipple its a match made in heaven and i'm i love with mine exhaust valve always fully open, fck the neighbours, also the guys give thumbs up instead of two fingers which i got in my M3 as well as being keyed in a carpark, the girls wave and blow kisses, and you make more friends except for eco warriors who are a bunch of w............, thanks for a great vid only you should have drove it through the Dartford tunnel hitting the rev limiter.

This is one of the best comments we have ever had! Thanks for taking the time to chat to us. I really enjoyed hearing about your experience. I can tell you are passionate about the car which is great to hear. I loved the look of this car and was always looking back after parking it. I found that you have to drive it hard to get the best out of it. But it’s tough on the UK b roads as just as you get going you have to break and have a corner coming up. But it sounds like that whipple supercharger does the trick. I bet it’s so much fun to drive. What do you think about the new mustang black horse edition? That looks pretty good from the pics.

@@CarChatTV Thanks for your reply, I hate the S650 dark horse, it may have 500bhp but it looks more like an aggressive track car very square and boxy at the front, i can't make my mind up whether i like the triple headlamps or not, i don't like the tablet style display at two feet long, the display is in your face, the rest of the interior is much the same with subtle changes, you can put carbon fibre wheels on any mustang, it will never be as popular as the S550 which is aggressive and sexy and i understand the designer of the S550 was British, the S550 had the right retro modern mix paying homage to the 60s fastbacks, it was not perfect and neither was the 2008, i never liked the fox body but this dark horse would look better on a Nascar track, i live in the past like many other pony lovers, the most sort after modern mustangs in the future will the S550 GT350, GT350R, BULLITT and Mach 1, this is an educated guess but i think this dark horse ain't gonna win any races, Ford are losing there way, I am taking a gamble and looking to purchase a S550 GT350, i think this will become a modern day icon in the future.

I have taken it to a track and had a blast (stock, no changes) and just put on winter tires. It has a great versatility and it is wonderful to live with!

@@CarChatTV I went for the DHG (Dark Highland Green). I had to, couldn't make myself even consider the black. :) I didn't try the line lock yet, as it was on stock tires and I didn't feel like shredding them quite yet. :) In the first few weeks (and still do sometimes) I walk into the garage to just look at it. I went for it due to the understated looks without many badges, the uniqueness of the trim and mainly, the exhaust note. Before I bought it, I recorded the exhaust note on my phone and listened to it before bed. That tells you all about what kind of experience I've had with this car.

You aren’t using the engine correctly to extract the power to maximise acceleration in the rolling race. Peak torque is much higher in the Rev range, whereas the turbocharged M2 has peak torque much lower. In the real world this will mean the M2 will seem much quicker if you don’t Rev the mustang out. AutoTopNL got a very similar 100kph to 200kph time for the Bullitt as they did for the M2 competition.

One of the best reviews I've seen of the Bullitt, I've had two now, my first was a none Magneride car and after reading and watching numerous road tests and reviews I decided to change it for a Magneride car, it's early days yet but it's not the silver bullet everyone said it was going to be, I find in normal mode it floats and sways like a 1958 Plymouth Belvedere and I find it noisy from the rear when it hits bumps, in Sport it feels similar to my old one, being the wrong side of 50 I was hoping for a smoother ride without the slightly disconnected feeling, maybe I should have bought a Volvo!

I take issue with your roll race with the M2. The Bullitt, as with any mustang equipped with the gen3 coyote makes the power at the very top end of the rev range. The car isn't making peak HP until 7000 rpm. If you are doing a 40 roll in second you are just bogging the engine at that point. If you drove the car for more than 5 minutes and taken it to redline under full throttle this should have been quite apparent. You set yourself up for failure in that race... was it on purpose? The Euro version of the car is 460HP not sure where you got 453 from. Our American version is 480HP/420ft-lbs. I also noticed that your Bullitt had three A/C vents on the dash. Mine has an oil pressure and vac gauge with two A/C vents so that is kind of interesting.
