🔴 Ukrainian Foreign Legion In Heavy Urban Combat With Russian Spetsnaz in Severodonetsk

Intense video footage released by a American volunteer fighter in the Ukrainian Foreign Legion shows his team in heavy urban combat with Russian Spetsnaz in the city of Severodonetsk.
The video that was uploaded to the twitter account of the fighter with a US marine background shows the men fight their way through a urban areal while heavy fighting is ongoing.
According to the twitter account the men inflicted significant damage on Russian and Chechen spetsnaz but alos had losses on their side too.
The video appears to be part of a battle from which a short 40 second clip was uploaded a few days ago that was also showing foreign legion fighters in the same location.
We could not find the orginal source of the last part of the video but the first one was released on / marine_ukraine

This city looks like it could be a map in a video game, but this is a modern city in our lifetimes. This was a normal town 4 months ago. People were celebrating New Years here. Lovers were going on dates on Valentine's Day here. Everything was like a normal city that we would take for granted, and this senseless, disgusting war turned it into rubble and dust and death in a few months.

The strategic value of this place in my opinion would be that of any city. It can be used a secure area to perform more offensive and defensive maneuvers. Cities provide plenty of coverage for literally everything from storing ammunition, vehicles, people, funneling refugees, a hard to miss point for resupplies. Most cities are also connected to national interstates and highways making them good key points to secure if you want a sure fire way of moving convoys without risk of enemy contact. Lacking in resources? Yes more than likely, most cities are 90% consumer leisure. But in terms of strategic resources like non consumable products like I listed above. Yes cities are very important. They are like modern day forts. Also taking a city is important for an armies morale, people grew up there they don’t want to see their towns reduced to rubble. If you can secure one more persons town that gives more cause for people to keep fighting and for more to come back to join the fight. Most people don’t want to fight if they think they’re going to die for nothing. No one likes being on the losing side which is Ukraine for now, they need every excuse possible to get people to stay and to keep coming.

They fired into nothing a lot. Can see their shots going wide in plenty of the video. Tactics wise some of the stuff they did reminded me of the Syrian fighters so I dont know.

This shows the difference in combat experience between US troops and russian troops quite well. The drawbacks to just level your target with air attacks, artillery and not sending in your infantry to fight these kinds of battles (like in syria for the russians) are being payed in russian blood. The marines that fight in Ukraine profit greatly from their past engagements.

  • @jpc347

@@nanzistnt2573 Then I guess you have no concept of how modern combat works. Real war isn't a videogame where you're nailing enemies left right and centre. The vast majority of rounds fired are to suppress the enemy, not to kill them (although if it does, great). The actual killing is done via crossfire on surrounded enemies and via supporting arms like mortars and artillery. What makes these fighters different from untrained Syrian rebels is that their suppressive fire is deliberate and focused on where the enemy currently is.
