Ukrainian Armata? Ukrainian Armata-like vehicles

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Ukraine has recently unvailed a new Infantry Fighting Vehicle, called Babylon, developed by Arey engineering group, which shares some of the design choices with Russian Armata, and by Armata, I mean the platform, not the T-14. Also, keep in mind that Arey, used to be Azov engineer group. The vehicle might be intended for export, specifically to some NATO countries. But, that is not the only Armata like vehicle to come from Ukraine in recent history, there has been one that might be even more similar to the Russian Armata.

Probably not, Ukraine is going to need tanks and is going to need them out quickly. We're more likely to just see T-64s being refirbished on a larger scale, and likely not even to the standards some Ukrainian T-64s are at right now. The Biggest issue for Ukraine is that many of their tanks and the production of tanks relied on parts imported from Russia, after 2014 Ukraine has been essentially incapable of producing new tanks on any meaningful scale.

In return for being artificially installed as arbiters of what is acceptable or not in a nation, the extremists are happy serving up smoke where there's no fire and vice-versa. When the Skripals were allegedly poisoned, Ukraine could never be ruled out as a source. Similarly when the Syrian situation at Ghouta is examined, the extremists are willing to carry out any atrocity knowing responsibility will be laid elsewhere. This is the 'assymmetry' the West complains Ukraine was subjected to in Crimea.

@@commandergeokam2868 I doubt it, and the reason is Ukraine’s most modern tank throughout the active stage of its civil war was the T-84 Oplot, of which it had about 10. Not a single one was ever deployed, even when it was clear Ukraine’s T-64s were not achieving any success. At the same time, Ukraine was manufacturing and selling 30 of them to Thailand. As far as I can tell, no T-84 had ever seen battle... I suspect because Ukraine wanted to avoid the embarrassment of getting its most modern tanks torched by RPGs. It gets hard to export a tank if there’s news coverage of it burning alongside a T-64. And I don’t think that Ukraine will be any more willing to send its shiny new designs into the meat-grinder than it was with a tank from 2009. I think that the STANAG specifications indicate new designs are also prestige projects and exports rather than something to see use domestically, just as was the case with the T-84.

It is possible they have 1 man in the turret of the Trex. I think there was some study in the US that having a commander in the turret is still good for situational awareness. Cameras and a screen just don't give you the same thing as eyes for spatial awareness.

It is possible that STANAG ratings is used specifically to show that Ukraine is trying to become a NATO member. I think these vehicles are kinda what Tiger II and Maus for Germany during WW2. Wunderwaffe that is supposed to show that Ukraine is still fighting and can produce stuff that is on the same level as the most modern Russian equipment. Weapons that "can change the tide of the war".

As an infantryman, I feel weird about ERA on an IFV. Yes, it would probably save my bacon while inside, but a random enemy shell that may have only knocked out the IFV while I am dismounted could potentially cause catastrophic losses if it explodes at the wrong time. However, I am not blind to the fact that I am not really supposed to stand directly next to my IFV anyway, and that the benefit from the IFV not being instagibbed by a HEAT-MP shell far outweight the potential for an ERA panel to kill dismounted infantry.

Yeah, Stanag 6 is as good as you gonna get with IFVs and this kind of armor would make it equal in protection with things like Puma and Lynx, if I am not mistaken, maybe even better. The numbers as they are seem actually pretty amazing. We, Czechs probably won't buy it since our IFV tender is too far in (they are already testing the specification prototypes of all three options etc and because of the political environment they will try to finish it before the elections that are in October) but the Slovaks might be interested in something like this. There is also a lot of cooperation between Ukrainan defence industry and the Czechoslovak group which contains a lot of Czech and Slovak arms-technology firms including a quite important company in the field of re-making and upgrading old eastern tech called Excalibur Army that is supplying new self propelled howitzers to Ukraine so I can imagine some kind of cooperation.
