    the ref begged the doctor not to stop the fight over the cut? isnt that like a conflict of interest? if the doctor stopped the fight alex wouldve won and the ref influenced his decision. that isnt right

    It was completely right. It was a cut, Big John feels for the fighters period, he has a perfect reputation with all MMA people, and he said it because he knew that both fighters wanted to finish the fight.

    I am Swedish, with all my heart did I want Gustafsson to win and I could see the scorecards going in his favor, however, he didnt win. I had 3-2 to Jones. 1 = Gustafsson 2 = Jones (but close enough that personal preference comes into play) 3 = Gustafsson 4 = 100% Jones 5 = Jones because of the power stuff he landed and I believe his one take-down plus how winded Gustafsson looked.

    All fight fans, especially Jones' fans, should appreciate the spectacular battle between these guys. Gustafsson fought a compelling bout. It was extremely close, but you must take the belt from the Champ. Rarely will the Champion lose in a close bout. True fans enjoy bearing witness to tremendous warriors plying their arts. Period.

    The possible stoppage was in regards to the cut over the eye, not a limp which he didn't show until after the fight. HAD the doctor been certain enough he needed to stop the fight because of safety for the fighter, he would have. It wasnt on that level, and it was going into the final round.

    You may have read my prediction for Jones Vs Gustafsson weeks prior to the fight. 5 rounds close judges call. I would be curious as to your prediction of that particular fight. 2nd round stoppage by elbow strikes or 1st round submission of Gustafsson?. It doesn't make perfect sense. It's just a prediction. I may be completely wrong. I'm willing to wait and watch the fight.

    Dylan Jones I don't know about that. The question is how much that Gus fight will weigh on him mentally. Getting in there with another guy is one thing but going back in there with the guy who got you transported directly to the hospital after a fight is another, and those injuries were a constant reminder of that fight and that he can get hurt. The question really comes down to how much that will mess with his head on fight night.

  • @dylanjones268

    @dylanjones268

    Spider Orc He is a fighter and a top tier athlete. Facing adversity is what he has done his whole life. Gus will be thinking those very same things, does that mean that will weigh on him? I like both fighters, can't wait to see the rematch.

  • @spiderorc7556

    @spiderorc7556

    Dylan Jones The difference is that Gus stayed around for interviews before going to hospital after the fight. Jones was helped out of the ring by coaches and didn't stick around for anything. He was also back in training and ready to fight sooner than Jones. Jones has faced adversity before. No doubt about it, but not quite like that. He cut through that division like a knife through hot butter. We've seen it before where top athletes looked untouchable until they got touched and suddenly they were getting beat more often. My point is you never know how an athlete even an elite athlete will act until he gets in there again and faces someone he knows can hurt him bad and someone he isn't sure he can beat.

    Problem with stuffing is that there´s no criteria in the judging rules for that - the only thing it does is prevent the other guy from scoring (because take-downs do score). They had one take-down each in the whole match. I might have to reward to say this for a fact but Jones overall in the fight was more planted in the center of octagon / being aggressor than not. That´s another important scoring criteria. You also dont get points for having a chin of granite, big hits score big regardless

  • @rakemebackdotcom
    @rakemebackdotcom10 жыл бұрын

    It´s statistically proven that the greater the reach advantage is in any given matchup, the higher the probability of a victory for the guy with the advantage. But I mean that´s part of the sport, some are blessed with cardio advantages, others are blessed with the kind of flexibility/dexterity that helps them in BJJ and others cannot be knocked out. He´s the best in the sport today, but he was taken down a notch in that he looked human and not invincible, but to his credit his chin...

    Cred to them both for fighting 5 rounds. But Jones couldn't stand at the end, 2 guys were holding him up. He was really hurt, we'll see what they say after his visit to the hospital. It doesn't matter how tough they are, they have rules for a reason. Last year a doctor didn't even let Alex fight because of a tiny cut, it's absurd.

  • @rakemebackdotcom
    @rakemebackdotcom10 жыл бұрын

    It all really comes down to whether Anderson gets taken down or not, same as with this fight - with Gustafsson. Against Anderson (especially in the light of this) all Jones would focus practice on is takedowns, takedowns, takedowns (and some sub defense). Against Gustafsson in a rematch they would implement something against the jab plus work on takedowns, takedowns, takedowns. But I like Andersons chances more than before, that´s for sure, until he clowns right into a chin-to-face that is:)

  • @vanberla
    @vanberla10 жыл бұрын

    Although I partially agree with your comment (height and reach is a critical factor in fighting), saying he's nothing special without a 3 foot reach advantage is like saying Tyson was nothing without his speed.That's nature: some of us are small like Evans and some of us are tall like Jones. He's in fact special because he's so tall AND can cut down to 205. Solution: have weigh-in happen on the same day as the fight, that way only true 205'ers will compete.

    Also, that was an epic match and I look forward to a rematch. Gus neutralised the wrestling of Jones well, but if Jones goes back to the suplexes and throws he used against the similar sized Bonnar instead of focusing on boxing during training, he could finish him. Jones Rd 2 (iffy), 4 and 5.

    I can't believe Ariel didn't push Dana White on the weird promotions. I mean did you guys watch the UFC promo where Mike Goldberg's head exploded? The fight really wasn't about the height or reach of the fighters as much as the technical skills. Alexander showed some wicked striking skills, despite dropping his right hand consistently through the fight. His takendowns and takedown defence improved dramatically. In my opinion he won rounds 1-3. I gave Jon 4 and 5 just to be flexible.

  • @rakemebackdotcom

    What a strange remark. No it would be a rematch and he either wins it (and the division moves on and Gustafsson need 3-4 fights to get another shot unless its razor-close again, in which 1-3 might work if stars align) If Gustafsson wins, yeah the trilogy has to happen, likely with a fight or two inbetween.

    Learn to read "bud". I said that I thought Gus won the fight by taking the first 3 rounds. I also said " I could see it going either way" meaning that I wouldn't blame someone for giving it to Jones because it was a close fight. It is all a matter of how you score it. And yes, Jon was more busted up visually because he was taking punches to the face. Gus on the other hand was taking shins and elbows to the side of his head. Lastly, stuffing takedowns does not score points. oh and Gus 1,2, and 3!

    Alexander Gustafsson is such a class act! Want to know whether or not a man is "no joke"? Then pay attention to whether or not he has character! A loss is a loss, right?! Whether or not it's justified, it's a loss! The guy didn't complain! He said..."it was good, but not enough. I'll be back stronger..."- taking nothing away from JJ, although his camp believes they won!!!

    Gustafsson just showed everyone that Jones is overrated the only reason Jones looked so dominating in his past matches is because he has such a huge size and reach advantage against his opponent and he capitalize on those, but against Gustafsson we saw he has a lot of problems when he doesn't have the advantage on height and reach.

    Funny how people keep saying Jones should fight HWs when he is the perfect build for a LHW. If Gustaffson won the title, would everyone ask him to fight at HW? No. What they have in height, they lose in size (especially leg mass). Silva is the same; long and lean is the best build for MMA, dont hate just cause he has a great athletic build that can cut to 205.

    Robbing Gus out of that decision is criminal. Jones got wheeled into a hospital, looking like he got ran over by a truck, after getting beaten severely for the majority of a fight; Gustofasson walked in and received a few stitches. I personally don't know anyone, to include some Jones "fan boys", who thinks/claims Jones won that belt/fight. CRAZY

    Rounds suck, guy that is winning when they break it up is the winner (taking into account how long they were winning and how much damage they took/are taking). Jones for some reason didn't even move his head and got pretty damn busted up by in-n-out (covering distance being the key) barrage boxing. He couldn't take Alexander down, but 1/11 times I think and few other things... But he was winning after that, for 10 mins, and I think that REALLY means more than rounds and points...

    Epic fight. But I hate immediate rematches when someone is waiting. Give Glover his shot and give Gus a fight. Then do the rematch. Wtf is supposed to change if you do it so fast? Let Gus improve before you turn him into Rich Franklin who is 0-2 vs champ and no where to go. Immediate rematch is just a money grab. Let anticipation build. There is a chance one can lose and hurt the fight. But also possible the fight gets even bigger.

    This was a very close fight. I thought the Mauler took the first 3 rds. but a person needs to watch a replay. I just thought the judges should have had it a little closer. There's no way in hell that should have been a unanimous decision for Jones. I would feel a whole lot better about a split decision either way but right after the fight, I felt that the Mauler had won it.

    A rematch is necessary because there is so much debate on who won the fight. Jones may have officially won the fight, but it was a draw if you look at comments from fans. Some thought Jones won, others though Gus won. This is why this sport is so great because we probably will see them fight again.
