How come Shawn Fain doesn't work for $500 a week?
Shouldn't all UAW officers work for $500 a week while the strike is on?
Why is the union strategy to damage the car companies?

    It is true that you get paid $500 on strike pay but it is only for 3-4 hours of time on the picket line. You have the option to work outside of your strike time up to $500 more dollars without penalty

    It depends on the location. Some plants are smaller, so some have to strike every day, or every other day. My plant is 6 hour shifts once a week, but we have over 6k people there. Our fleet is small, so they sit out there more hours, or days. There's no set amount of hours or time, all depends on each location

They could pay the $100 million out of her compensation and she would still get $16 million. It would cost the company ZERO! Yes let's talk about the UAW strike. The cost of automobiles increased over the past sixty years. Example: 1960 Cadillac cost $4,000. to $5, 000 . Today a Cadillac Sedan cost start at $48,000.. That means the Cost of a new Cadillac has increased eight hundred time. The average UAW Union members earn $24.00 hourly, while Tesla average hourly wage is $45.00. The new here is The Big Three have deliberately held the UAW Union members who are American workers wages down. The UAW Union members demands and deserve to be fairly compensated for the work they preform. No American workers should have to rely upon government handouts; such as Section 8 Rent Subsides, Food Stamps EBT, government Subsides health insurance. I support the American UAW workers and other Union workers such as SAG, Casino workers, Blue Cross workers who are striking to be fairly compensated for their work.

    The $500 strike pay was increased by membership vote from $300 last year at the constitutional convention. President Fain does not have the power to unilaterally change the strike pay. 4 weeks of Vacation is not obtained until you reach 20 yrs of seniority. Most get 40-100 hrs and 40 of that is dictated by the company to use during shutdown time. All salary paid to UAW executives are voted on by membership delegates at convention.

That’s what people do in a situation like this and there is the option of getting a thing called a job in the meantime. So unless you’ve actually worked on an assembly line in a factory, you really don’t know what you’re talking about. Ask TPT who’s been there for eight years trying to get the full pay scale with Benefits. what it’s like to get to the finish line only to find out, they moved the finish line further away , and in some cases taking years sonority away along with his or her pay. Ask TPT how they feel.

    I'm a former UAW member. for many years I used to lecture people about not buying American cars. The greed of the UAW has gotten to the point where I will no longer support the big three or a supplier. How can anyone possible justify the pay and benefits they are demanding when all you need s a high school education or a GED? Don't think that this doesn't have a trickle-down effect on the entire economy. When these people can't make the payments on that expensive house they bought because they were replaced with a robot doing their job for 1/10 the cost, they'll be sorry they got so greedy. I'm tired of paying $60,000 for a car with $1,000 a month payments, from now on I will only buy used cars or Asian cars.

    @Pro 1 er. First off UAW wages only represent about 10 % of the cost of a new car. Second im not sure why the education level bothers you. If you have ever been in a assembly plant for very long you would understand why they have to pay those workers that much. Those jobs are mind numbing and the pay is the only why the auto companies can keep a steady work force. Now before you say there are thousands of people that would do that job for less your wrong! Out of thousands of people that start working those jobs vary few stay around. The cost of constant employee turn over and lack of productivity would devastate the industry much faster than the wages. Now I agree not all of the demand are logical but from a negotiation stand point you have to start high and settle somewhere in the middle. As an engineer for one of these companies for the last 26 years I can tell you there are no CEO's that are worth 30 million dollars a year. Just as you think UAW wages are out of line so are the upper managements. So you blaming the UAW wages as your justification to buy a foreign car doesn't really hold alot of water. Just admit you wanted that vehicle. Its your money you can spend it as you wish.

I worked in the auto industry for 20 years in bot union and non union. The transplants are similar in pay structures and they don't have to pay a union president to get their benefits. I've been hearing your perspectives throughout this situation. While you express support for union and wage increases, your intense tone can undermine your credibility. It's essential to provide context when discussing leaked texts about the union, highlighting the nuanced dynamics with the big 3. The demands aim to recover lost ground, not create chaos. Ignoring this aspect seems irresponsible and potentially misrepresents the cause. Let's address the concerns constructively for a more balanced discussion.

    Understood on all fronts, however... Are you truly suggesting, after reviewing the latest contract proposals, that "lost ground" has NOT been restored? If not 100% completely, it's awfully damn close. Perhaps I'm a bit naive, or I fail to see the UAW's endgame but I'm not certain I see a pragmatic path to victory here. Just what are the UAW's goals?

  • @tezo46

    @tezo46

    8 ай бұрын

    Has the union achieved most of its goals? Yes, but let's consider what those goals were. We aimed for gains, yet the current deal only recovers what we lost, excluding retirement security. Personally, I'm fine without a pension after a decade in, but healthcare is crucial. Our bodies endure a lot, and post-career injuries linger. Now, on the topic of EV plants, these "joint ventures" were a ploy to avoid union work. If we don't fight for this leverage now, it'll be tougher later. They claim jobs won't vanish with the EV shift, but they contradicted this months ago. Planning for 5 to 10 years is okay for them, but when the union plans ahead, suddenly it's an issue. These companies talk about money troubles, yet you won't grasp the waste in the plants until you work there. Business isn't meant to be gentle, but merely catching up to what we lost without meeting inflation is unacceptable. In this country, the middle class isn't the average person; it's the 7 to 8 figure earners. We just want a comfortable life without relying on exhausting hours to support ourselves and our families.

  • @12345682900

    @12345682900

    @@tezo46 The inherent known factor that cannot be overstated enough is that "The Big 3" simply do not exist anymore. Their dwindling market share, stock values, etc.. is proof positive. This notion that they "must nurture, foster and continue to support a middle class" is an antiquated view. They simply can NOT afford to be that "generous" any longer. You'll recall Sears, for decades, employed a fulltime "adult contingent" w/excellent wage packages. Then, incrementally, year after year, their market share, power, profits eroded away. To survive they had to REPLACE fulltime employes with part-timers w/o benefits. Obviously, this saved millions but ultimately proved to be a short-term fix. That scenario is analogous to the current state of the "Big 3." They are UNDER NO OBLIGATION to maintain ANY "class;" they simply don't care. TO SURVIVE, they must CONSTANTLY find ways to generate positive cash flows (which includes EV plants with fewer non-UAW personal). Their recent record profits are a result of a confluence of extraordinary factors but are NOT sustainable. FOR DECADES, those with just HS/GED educations have been VERY fortunate earning "six figures" while working "on the line." While "all other companies" paid salaries BASED ON SKILL. Finding employment elsewhere with a HS/GED that rivals wage & benefit packages currently being rejected will be a daunting task.
