I grew up on the East Coast during Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Sand affecting my family and friends. This song really meant a lot during that time. Now I live in Maui and we just had a huge fire rip through our island destroying nearly the entire Historic Lahaina town. Displacing hundreds and destroying many businesses and livelihoods in the process. We're hurting right now, but this song gives me hope that help will come and help just like it has in past situations like this. If anyone sees this and wants to help, the Maui Mutual Aid Fund is actively working to help those in need and help rebuild. This only just happened, and more opportunities to help will arise, but this is organization is a good start!

The Video is a what if scenario, the U.S. didn't actually respond or help like this at all. Honestly there is a lot of parallels between the Covid 19 response as well. Not enough help, most of it to late to do any good, and a lot of Americans dead for no real reason other then that our government sucks and doesn't really care.

I remember this too damn well. My friend at that time was a truck driver and he was delievering goods to the gulf coast region, and he didn't wanna go alone,so I tagged along as a true friend would. When we arrived in the region,I was absolutley devestated and ashamed to be an American for the catastrophe which happened to the citizens of this region. They just didn't need food and water; they needed a damn hug. The people of the gulf coast and what I seen that day changed my life forever.

Does anyone else just involuntarily break into tears when they see what SHOULD have happened? Can you imagine how much less suffering could have occurred? I am an adopted only child, and my birth family came from a small town nearby New Orleans. To this day I still wonder and worry what happened to them, if they were still there, but I'm too scared to reach out to them and hear something bad. RIP to those lives lost in this horrific tragedy, wherein the government showed their true colors. If this were really a nation "for and by the people", we would have made more of an effort to save those unfortunate citizens.

I love how the video ends with the tanks fading away, a hard hitting message right there in of itself. That's what the government could have done in order to help those in need but instead they kept them in Iraq fighting a colonialist war for oil. Green day and u2 don't get enough credit for their hard hitting political messaging like that. The video showcases a fantasy of where the government could have done a lot more to help, but in the end it didn't as the video shows via the ever so subtle last second with the fading tanks. Brilliant video.

I still have to choke back tears. Katrina did 2 things to our city in traumatized us for life and it taught us to come together all color creed in unity and that no one would look out for us like us. That’s why while the rest of the country deals with different things New Orleans remains together

I remember how big it was at the time to have a charity act from two of the most popular bands. Green Day was at its peak with American Idiot and how both bands achieve such a great collab was amazing. Sad how this song seems forgotten now (seeing some comments from 8 years ago!).

I saw them play , then was immediately kicked out my seat by nopd because my original tix were stolen out the mail and the cop said "we go by the bigger ticket"! As we were being escorted to figure it all out (without the people who were in my seats surrounded by hundreds of people who knew me (super fan) and bitched the cops out. Gleason blocked the ball. Ran to a tunnel to see the cheering and was threatened with arrest. When we finally got down the top cop asked where the other people were. I explained the situation and asked how a guy can be so stupid and be nopd, or if that was a requirement. He blew his top to the guy when I explained he allowed the interlopers to remain. lol Still got gleason's autograph helmet when he heard what happened...

This song always takes me to when hurricane Katrina hit. And there were so most lost and hopelessness. I had moved to New olreans 3 days before it hit. No one can truly know what it was like then unless you lived it.

New Orleans ? Ida obliterated the southeast parishes 75% of lafourche parish is gone. Nearly everyone is homeless now and all people think is New Orleans is the only place in LA that exists..

@@mistypedhi Hello yes my family primarily is from Plaquemines and Terrebonne Cajun through and through that whole side. I just happen to know /some/ people who live in the city as well, but that's what's most identifiable to most people outside LA, thus leaving it in a KZread comment. Thankfully none of them I know got hurt but I don't know maybe be like 5% more sensitive when commenting back to someone who very clearly lost people to the hurricanes before and been scared of it happening again sayin I don't know shit bout LA alright.
