Two X-Plane RNAV Approaches using the G1000 and G430

Ойындар

X-Plane has surprising RNAV approach capabilities, showing WAAS implementation in even the humble G430. Here are two approaches to the same runway: one in the Laminar default 172 G1000, and one in the Carenado Bonanza F33 G430. The first is under VFR and the second down to IFR minimums.

Spectacular! Brilliant video! I just followed it but on X-Plane 12 with Cessna 172 Garmin 1000 GNX. Great help. Very clear. Thank you.

WAAS means Wide Area Augmentation System.

Hi, not an X-plane user (but interested) …. Always used P3D. I’m curious on how good is the weather generator in X-plane as it’s crap in P3D. Can you fairly accurately set an overcast cloud base? Say you wanted an overcast just above the approach minima……can you do that in X-Plane? In P3D you can’t. Cheers

Hi Brad. I am just watching/listening to this in pieces. Got to abut the 9 min mark and heard you describe watching the VNV Profile count down to T.O.D. You said when it reaches zero you can then engage VNAV and start your descent. In fact, I believe you can do this any time after you are five minutes out. When it reaches zero the system will activate VNAV automatically and will thus control your descent. As I said, I am just watching this so I hope I didn't miss something that makes all this sound silly. After this I was watching and wondering how you were going to descend from 4000 when the ALT bug said 4000. Obviously you discovered this in the nick of time. In fact you can enter your FAT altitude and the system should handle all the intermediate fix altitudes automatically. But you probably knew that. I'll come back tomorrow to watch part 2.

Points taken. Now that you mention it, I do remember that 5 minute window. And yes, I normally set my altitude well before the T.O.D. Maybe I should use a checklist ;)

When I flew GA airplanes the master AND alternator were switched on as if all one switch. Why turn on stuff without the alternator on.
