Two Notes Captor X - The Loadbox/Cabinet Simulator In Depth Review/Demo
Today we're talking a good in-depth look at the Captor X from Two Notes Audio Engineering. It's a very clever and very complex little box, with a reactive load (so you can run a 100W amp head into it without anything exploding) as well as a cabinet simulator to get some huge sounds both live and in the studio. It can also be a live IR loader, and with the very clever Twin Tracker function it can also sound like a pair of guitarists at once!

Just purchased this and still waiting for its arrival. You made me super excited. Thanks for such a elementary vid instead of an over-complicated technical overload like some folks. You bring it home.
Just saw this Captor X today and am completely sold! So good. Thanks for the best video showing all this thing can do.
This really helped me learn how to unlock this, my bandmate bought one because we were trying to figure out how to track guitar amps silently while I record drums but the potential this thing had for other uses astounded us
Wow! The only review that gives us an idea of how the attenuation actually works in this thing. I wish they could do a little less than -38 on the low setting. I've read that it is pretty low volumes for a mic recording and -20 probably too loud for bedroom levels. One question, did you notice any boost in the Highs when attenuating through your (real)cabinet? Thank you very much for the review!
Cool video mate, thank you very much
Great demo!
Best Captor X vid on KZread!!! 🤘🏻

Good spot! Thanks :)
Yes 16 ohms available plus two tones says the 8 will handle up one step to 16 or down one step to 4, didn’t try it yet but they said it’s safe

Have you tried it yet?
I liked the video because of the magic trick. Was definitely superior to the rest of the video, just kidding haha. Nice extended review!
Big, big sound 👍
I have it. It’s excellent
Saw some videos where they compared mutiple load boxes and concluded the captor x sounds thin and harsh compared to others.... Now Im concerned I cant acieve a good tone recording with this and using it in a mix....
KZread closed captioning thinks your from "Hot Ball Studio" lol

Adam since you are both a reaper extraordinaire and work a lot with two notes PLEASE help me out with something no one seems to have any answers for. Why is it no matter what I do with my captor x however I route it into reaper it sounds awful and like every bit of presence and punch is sucked out of my tone every time I disengage the twin tracker? I just don’t get it. Yours sounds good here without it I disengage twin tracker and it’s like this disgusting tone and everything good about it is lost. I would like to be able to record without it but can’t get a good sound without using it. My set up is good. Friedman BE 100 deluxe with zero issues.

Have you chosen an appropriate cab, mic and EQ setup? Have you accidentally doubled the output monitoring direct and through reaper? Is the amp simply set too loud and not where it would be going through a real cab? That has a bigger bearing than you might think

@@adamsteelproducer I’ve been messing with it for days now and 1 thing I have noticed is it sounds clearer when I plug into the captor x headphones rather than my scarlette. Not by a huge amount but enough to make it more enjoyable. The problem is what’s going into my daw is what I’m hearing going through the interface so I’m wondering if it’s where I’m using xlr to xlr cables and getting the scarlettes mic pre gain added and if I should be using xlr to trs? None of my levels are jacked up or clipping or anything like that though.
Mine goes to 11-uator
i have a bit of basic electronics knowledge but i want to confirm if i can do this safely Speaker Out 8ohm -> Captor X -> Cabinet 16ohm

Yeah, it's safe to go into a higher resistance cab. It may not sound ideal though and headroom is reduced.

I got mine recently. According to the user guide, the impedance the amp "sees" is 8 ohms unless you have the attenuation level on "Full volume" in which case the amp sees whatever the speaker is. So the output from the Captor X may actually sound better with some attenuation so it's giving the amp an 8 ohm load. The output from the speaker will as Keegan L states, be "safe" but not optimal.
