Some of the crazy-sounding stuff in this movie is plausible. A storm system can produce dozens of tornadoes in a short period of time. Tornadoes can dissipate quickly and sometimes reform later on. And tornadoes do seem to "skip over" certain buildings or areas, yet destroy others nearby.

Depends on the debris and how close and powerful they are if I remember right. Some can sound like a jet, maybe a freight-train, and even a waterfall. We also get them up here in PA, not TOO often, but I've come close to two that were WAY too close to home. First one sounded like a flooded river grinding rocks (If you ever hear a mill-grinding stone it was kind of like that) and the other was loud and sounded like a train. Both missed by a hair each time, the second one however was a night tornado and it dropped SO close that if it had hit where we lived you would have NO time for shelter (We lived in a trailerpark then and as many know... Those don't have basements usually).

Even hearing him bash some of my favorite moments doesn't ruin the nostalgia I feel when I see these movie clips. Sure it had its flaws, but Twister holds a special place in my heart as the movie that inspired me to destroy countless red hot wheel pickups. also, 17:30 - tell that to Oklahoma and Kansas right about now.

As a kid I lived in Oklahoma and experienced an F5 tornado. Those damn things are terrifying. Ever since then I get super paranoid about the weather when it storms. The news said that the only safe place was underground. I cant remember the year, but everyone referred to it as the May 3rd tornado. This movie always bothered me because of how bullshit it is.

For 37 years, the most extensive tornado outbreak on record, in almost every category, was the 1974 Super Outbreak, which affected a large area of the central United States and extreme southern Ontario in Canada on April 3 and April 4, 1974. Not only did this outbreak feature 148 tornadoes in only 18 hours, but an unprecedented number of them were violent; 7 were of F5 intensity and 23 were F4. During the peak of this outbreak there were 16 tornadoes on the ground at the same time. More than 300 people, possibly as many as 330, were killed by tornadoes during this outbreak. However, this record was later broken during the 2011 Super Outbreak, which resulted in 360 tornadoes and 324 tornadic fatalities. THAT`S how many tornadoes..

The actual smart thing to do in case of a tornado is indeed to hide in a basement or get low on the ground. Funnily enough, even when the wind speed in the tornade is tremendous there is basically no wind on the ground level. Hiding under a bridge is probably the WORST possible thing to do, not to mention strapping yourself to some pipes...

Heh, the divorced/estranged couple who is still in love with each other is one of the most popular Hollywood cliché ever. It gives the characters some personal traits/background and it saves time from having to establish a beliavable new romance/love connection, which is especially important when the movie isn´t primary a romance. It´s just unfortunate Michael Crichton (yes, THAT Michael Crichton) also needed an outsider who he can use as viewers inside into all the technobabble and exposition and he choose to have the new fianceé came along. It had saved some time and made the story more streamlined, but it also made Bill look like a complet douch.

This is one of my mom's favorite movies. I grew up with it and it's on every other week. Not only am I tired of seeing this movie, but as I grow up I find it stupid. I have learned that my estranged father also made fun of this movie and probably still does, and i have spiritually kept the tradition of laughing at this movie whenever it is on. Whenever it pops up I have to leave because I don't want to hurt her feelings. Now I get to watch a video where someone destroys it and smile with glee, hoping my mother will walk in on this just for the laughs.

I'd just like to point out something that no one ever brings up. The Dive In scene starts and we see Danny on his big wheel driving around the hallway and then finding the twins for the first time. We cut back to the movies main characters bullshitting and what not, the tornado shows up and then BOOM the movie is at the "Here's Johnny scene" WTF how did those two hours of The Shinning go by! What the hell! But whatever it's just a nit pick.

This review is final form original Doug Walker as Nostalgia Critic, before the advertisement breaks and the overindulgence in crossover reviews, etc, etc, everyone who is a fan has commented on how the show changed. Very tight, the jokes are excellent, Doug's performance is top-notch, the effects were good, even the length of the episode is perfect.

I think he meant that Melissa wasn't near enough to the radio to hear what they were saying. Which is accurate, given that they were standing around in the middle of a storm and hearing a conversation clear as crystal.

In fact Limestone County, Alabama got two in one day during the '74 tornado outbreak. Lawson's trailer park was hammered by a pair of F5's within just a few hours. First responders who were digging out survivors from the first tornado had to take cover in a ditch as the second one went through. They came to be called Tanner 1 and Tanner 2. Remember. Truth is always stranger than fiction. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1974_Super_Outbreak

This movie will always hold a special place in my heart. I was completely obsessed with tornadoes for a few years, and I watched this movie at least once a week for the longest time. Is it cheesy? Absolutely. But. it'll always give me that warm, fuzzy nostalgic feeling. That said, I can't watch it anymore without hearing the Imperial March every time Jonas shows up!

Did you notice that when the boom hits directly on the windshield of Bill's truck that in the next cut away the windshield is intact. Or when they drive through the house the truck climbs stairs but still exits on the first floor. I agree that this movie is a big deal to people only because of the special effects. Rusty blaring "Child in Time" by Deep Purple was kinda cool even though the video of it was from a concert that the song was never played at. Oh, well.

They're also able to climb the stairs, which can somehow support the weight of a full-size pickup, even though the house is on it's side
