Angelina Jordan Found her purpose in life early. 8-years-old early. Winning Norway’s Got Talent at that tender age only solidified what the headstrong young singer knew she wanted to do with her life. KZread footage of her singing Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You at the age of one-and-a-half suggests her path has been clear right from the start. Now with her signing to Republic Records, the teen singer can fulfill the next chapter of her destiny. “Even being so young, I’ve always known what I wanted,” she tells American Songwriter. “I found my purpose, it is to be a musician.” The singer, who was born and raised in Oslo but is now based in Los Angeles, was just 7 when her audition for the 2014 season of Norway’s Got Talent went viral. Her version of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday” captured over 300 million views, and set her on a path that’s changed her life. Even being eliminated from the American version of the reality show, in February this year, hasn’t stopped her star from rising. After being courted by a number of record labels, Jordan signed with Republic, and has just released her debut single, “Million Miles.” “From the very beginning of my career, I had offers to be signed, but my family and I wanted to wait and develop my talent for the right time,” she says, revealing a patience that belies her youth. “I knew at a very early age that in order for me to accomplish bigger things in my life, I had to wait in order to make sure I created something meaningful. I chose Republic because I feel I have a long career with them. When I was finishing the song in the studio, one of the producers played the song for [founder and CEO] Monte Lipman. He wanted to sign me to Republic, to give me the opportunity to share my love, my music. I believe at that moment Republic saw my vision and understood me.” Following her stint on Got Talent, Jordan has shared a number of cover versions of her favorite songs, so releasing a debut single all of her own is a momentous occasion. “Million Miles” is a piano ballad about losing love that showcases her beautiful range. “The song is really about everyone and reminding us that we are never alone because we as humans, our biggest fear as human beings are that we are very afraid of being alone or losing someone,” she says. Produced by Grammy-winning production duo Stargate (Beyoncé, Sam Smith, Rihanna), the track was written by Jordan herself. As fans have come to know, Jordan likes to perform barefoot, in honor of a young girl she met when was 6 who didn’t have any shoes. Ever since the young singer gave that girl her shoes, she’s performed without wearing her own. She recorded “Million Miles” barefoot too. “I want to remind myself that there are less fortunate people around the world who need help,” she says. “It is a great reminder for me.” Jordan credits her family with keeping her on solid footing, as her dreams unfold before her. “Something that has been truly important to me is that I have been following my heart and been loyal to my dream. It is important to me to be able to make good decisions. Every decision you make will navigate you in the direction you will go and achieve your dreams,” she says. Her grandmother, Mery Zamani, an artist herself, has been a strong influence on her life. “She is my truly mentor,” says Jordan. Jordan published a book illustrated by her grandmother, when she was 9, and they create art together regularly. Her mom, who she says has always supported her dream, and her uncle, with her best interest at heart, are also there to advise her. “Without their guidance and the belief in knowing what I wanted, I would not have made it through some of the tougher times in my career so far,” she adds. There’s one more person Jordan knows she has to thank for her career right now. “I have to say if it wasn’t for the unconditional love that came from Billie Holiday’s legendary music, there would not be Angelina Jordan today. I am very blessed today that her music found me very early,” she says. 👍Even with her own music now being released, Jordan still enjoys the covers she sings. “I do appreciate the love I get when I sing those legendary songs. It is harder to sing a cover than your own song because you are going to be compared to the original. It is a big responsibility to make sure you are placing the worth into it,” she says. “I have learned that we humans have unlimited ability, that we can do anything we want, just if we want to. I always keep that in my mind with cover songs or anything I do.”

Your heart rate increases, you find it difficult to catch your breath, chills and shells engulf you. You are now addicted to Angelina Jordan the finest story telling vocalist I have ever experienced.

there is a mashup of this song and tennessee whiskey that is off the charts. angelina was in the studio with jimmy z recently singing etta's "at last " jimmy z worked with etta for 16 years . angelina signed with Republic at 14 after turning down offers since she was 7. then her mother immediately told republic not to promote her until she graduates. was the GOAT at 13....BTW got this mike for 12 th bday and is singing in the back ...

Ya have to go down the rabbit hole of Angelina jordan.. She is absolutely amazing.. Her voice is incredible.. Her cover of *I put a spell on you* (9 years old) is mental.. And she actually arranged the song herself at 9 years old. She arranges most of her covers/originals. And another great one is her... Well its not a cover, the lyrics was given to her but she never released it. And the person who wrote it recorded it and released it because he never heard back from Angelina. So her version of it got leaked and both versions are now out on the internet. There are alot of stories and rumors but no one really knows how it got leaked. There was alot of theories in the comment section of the video but kept getting deleted and the comment section is now turned off.. All we know is that all parties are now ok with Angelinas version being on the internet.. The song is called *im still holding out for you* (she was 10 years old when this was recorded) And alot of people think this is the best she done.. (including me) Something abit recent *Bohemian Rhapsody* on AGT The champions (13 years old.) amazing cover and even Queen wrote on twitter "Wow, what a rendition." and gave her permission to record her version of the song. I first heard her perform Stay, literally the moment she started singing I started crying. Her voice is something so very special.

What a nice reaction! She recorded this for fun, just happy she got a new microphone for her birthday. This is the thing about Angelina: she can't help singing sincere and heartfelt, even if the lyrics are about things in life she can't have experienced herself! It's very nice to watch some of her starting songs at seven years old (at Norway got talent, which she won). Recent stuff is also very impressive!

Angelina is known for having 1000 voices. She also performs barefoot to remind her of all the less fortunate children in the world. She has helped raise millions for charities. She is the youngest published author in Norway at age 9. She wrote the book about an encounter she had with a poor girl weighing people in the streets for money. Angelina and the girl were both around six years old. It was in the Middle East and was cold. The girl had scars on her feet. Angelina approached the girl and struck up a conversation. Angelina ended up taking the shoes off her feet and gave them to the girl.

Progression you say? You're in luck. Angelina has been singing her own, and cover songs since she was a little girl....and her family was there to record it all for us to enjoy. Hi! You have a new subscriber. Welcome to the wonderful world of the singer I consider the most talented and versatile on this planet, and I am not alone in that opinion. There are thousands of fans -she calls them her "Angels" who think likewise. The word Duende is very appropriate to describe how she affects her listeners, for one of the things said about her is that she doesn't sing "songs"she sings and lives "emotions". She has done this ever since the age of 6, when she recorded four songs in the recording studios of the Waldorf School, Oslo. It matters not that she has never lived through the experiences the subject of the lyrics, for she instinctively knows the correct way to interpret the song and melody. Even more astounding is that she has the ability to communicate those same emotions to her listener. I have read through the 51 comments posted at this time, so will not add to the incredible amount of information you have received about her, but will just end by saying that the day you discovered Angelina is one you will never forget.

Get ready for saying "Wow" another thousand times. Angelina is the most amazing singer I've heard in decades. And she keeps getting better. She touches my soul and I get goosebumps listening to her even when it's a song I've heard her sing a dozen times. I hope to see more of your reactions to this incredible artist.

I believe Angelina is on a different level for where her music comes from since it is so emotional at such a young age. Please take the time to read the biography I compiled for Angelina. Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman, who has chosen to keep his life private. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age after listening to Whitney Houston on KZread. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was considered a prodigy as an artist and poet and married a Japanese man who passed away in 2019. Angelina speaks Norwegian, Farsi, English, Japanese and Swedish. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where she received vocal training starting around age 4. Angelina plays the piano, violin, guitar and flute and also paints. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage. Why Angelina always performs barefoot At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. Angelina at age 6 and 7 did record a few songs in a recording studio, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 6 or 7 year old. Angelina is blessed with a deep voice with a beautiful rich tone and has always made her sound much older than her age. Many compare her voice to that of Amy Winehouse. Her voice is highly emotional which is very rare for a young girl and some people can’t accept that such a soulful voice can come from someone who has not had enough life experience. One vocal coach on KZread recently said, “If you have a song and want to have more emotion added to that song, have Angelina sing it.” At age 8, (please refer to replies by erik to a comment I made on JHTreacts video on 6/7/21 who provides proof Angelina had already turned 8) Angelina’s audition on NGT was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. The next performance on NGT was her cover of Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. Welcome Guys to the "AJ Effect", includes that this Girl, if u listen to, will take u by ur hands and leads u through into a Vocally Nuts World, that u wouldnt expect at all from this actually 16 Years young Vocally Monster, will always gave u Goosebumps. I recommended to pick one of the about a hundredandfifty Covers and 4 Originals of hers, doesnt matter wich one, she will always deliver and killing the songs and probably u also with ease. She's like a gymnastic in voices. I think a gymnastic could easyly learn breakdance, stanard dance, modern dance, evrything on the palet. And she does that with her voice. She can literraly sing everything... Sorry for my spelling.

Great reaction to The Angel Herself! You have soooo much content to look forward to. She is truly the greatest female vocalist I have ever heard. You were wondering if she was main stream at all or just KZread. In August 2020, Angelina's manager (also her uncle, Michael Astar) announced that she had signed with Republic Records. Her first single on the label, "Million Miles", was released on November 6th, 2020, on all major digital platforms. She is also a Humanitarian, artist, fashion designer and the youngest published author in Norway. Truly an amazing individual.

If you like to follow the journey and improvement of a likely vocal superstar you are in luck because her journey is well documented on you tube. Starting with her first performance in a recording studio doing "I who have nothing" at age 6. You could follow this with her Norway got talent songs where she was 7 at audition and 8 when she won the show. This is a wonderful ride to be on and I am looking forward to you next reactions.

If you want to start at more or less the beginning start with her 4 short NGT (Norway's got talent performances) when she was 7. She won. Each are around 2 minutes long. You can find them grouped together. You will be amazed. If I can give you channel a compliment its nice to find reactors who do a little research as you two did.

Congratulations guys, you quickly realized Angelina's artistic quality and looked for an obvious "spiritualist" explanation for such talent. Amy and Adele are part of the concrete influences of this beautiful young woman, but I always managed that the mystique of this genius artist came from a "Duende" shared with the great Christina Aguilera. Angelina is unique!

I am often at a loss for words, when trying to describe Angelina Jordan's voice, or what genre she fits in, & I have come to accept, that she does not fit in any category, or genre, & is simply in league all of her own.....One thing I do know though, is every time I hear her voice, it touches my heart & brings out emotions, some of which, I didn't even know existed! Billie Holiday (Queen of Jazz) is the early influence on Angelina, due to her grandma , Mery. Angelina's used Billie's "Gloomy Sunday" in her Norway's Got Talent (2014) (Angelina born January 10, 2006) as a great place to start. Angelina's last 2 songs "Bang Bang" by Nancy Sinatra and "Summertime" (Ella Fitzgerald's arrangement) won the contest for her. She has around 160 covers and a half dozen original recordings to sample in her first 15 years. Welcome to to the rabbit hole and supportive community calling themselves "Angels".

She did three songs on AGT 2020 which brought her to the American audience. Queen gave her the rights to her version of Bohemian Rhapsody. My favorites at this time are 'Easy On Me' (Adel cover) and 'I'm Still Holding Out For You'. I have a playlist of some her videos (85), you can find it on KZread at 'Angelina Jordan Playlist by Terry M.', it just went over 21,000 views today.

Thanks for this very nice reaction Jared and Jordan. You hit the nail on it's head with " duende" finally we have a word for what she does with her singing. Since I know her, march 2020, I can only listen to Angelina and have wet eyes every day. Please react to more, I'm sure you already got a lot of suggestions

You need to hear a lot more of her to get a grasp on just how really great she is. She can sing anything done by anybody from Adele to Elvis, Queen, Sinatra, hell, ANYBODY. She can do their best and do it better in most cases. Her original stuff is outstanding too. Try Million Miles, 7th Heaven, or Shield, for some of that. Listen to any of her latest Adele covers like Easy On Me or All I Ask for something she did at 14 or drift on back to when she was 6 or anywhere in between. There is plenty to chose from with well over 100 covers. None of them are bad so just pick one and you won't go wrong.

No doubt you got a great and solid start for your Angelina Jordan Astar (daughter of Sara Astar and Gerry Christian Slättman) journey. You guys did an exelent and strong job in your reaction. You even did put new words (duende) into my search for language to explain Angelinas heavy influeces to my emotions of my life. Since she was 7, she has always prodused goosbumps, tears, ( both from joy and movement) and great big smiles. You may pick almost any Angelina video, and such experiences are almost guaranteed. And the "raving" people does, is much about her age, but first and foremost how increadable good and special she is. Her version of 'Bohemian Rhapsody' on AGT is maybe the most beautiful Queen cover you will ever hear. You mentioned Adele and Angelina recently did a beautiful cover of 'Easy on me', but I prefer her version of 'All I ask', also quite recent, wich is absolutely breathtaking. I could easily recomend 30-40 more, but you cant go wrong with Angelina, so chose a song you like and you will most likely love her version of it, whatever age she is. Thanks for duende. She signed with Republic at 15. Everyone says it sounds like Tennessee Whiskey. Amy W is one of her idols. This is bluesier than Etta or Beyoncé, who also did it. That last phrase is inhumanely long. One breath. Her other covers are mindblowing too. You should probably listen to her 9 year old I Put a Spell On You. You won't believe it. Angelina just covered the new Adele, Go Easy On Me. BTW, she's Norwegian.
